Chapter 3:The Art of Distraction

Kaito couldn't shake Mei-Ling from his thoughts. The way her eyes lit up when she talked about art, the sound of her laughter echoing through the night market - it was captivating. He'd spent the day trying to focus on business, but his mind kept drifting back to her. As evening fell, he found himself driving through Kuala Lumpur's bustling streets, drawn inexplicably toward Brickfields, where Mei-Ling had mentioned her studio was located. The studio was a converted warehouse, filled with canvases in various stages of completion. Mei-Ling stood before an easel, her back to him, completely absorbed in her work. Her hair was tied up, a smudge of paint on her cheek. "Hey," Kaito said softly. Mei-Ling turned, surprise flickering across her face before a warm smile replaced it. "Kaito! Didn't expect to see you here." "I couldn't stay away," he admitted. "Your art... it's amazing." She blushed, gesturing to the canvases around them. "It's just what I do. Nothing special." "Everything about you is special," Kaito said, the words slipping out before he could stop them. For hours, they talked. About dreams, about art, about life beyond expectations. Time seemed to dissolve as they shared stories, their connection deepening with each passing moment. As night fell again, Mei-Ling showed him her favorite spot - a rooftop overlooking the city, where the lights of Kuala Lumpur twinkled like stars. They sat close, shoulders touching, watching the world below. "I'm glad you came," Mei-Ling whispered. "Me too," Kaito replied, his heart racing. "More than you know."
