CHAPTER4

LYRA'S POV The sound of growls woke me up from my slumber. Slowly I opened my eyes, glancing around. It was the early hours of the morning. The growl sounded again, striking fear into my heart. I stood up. That was my mistake. There were two wolves behind the tree I was sleeping under. Their eyes glowed as they looked at me like their next meal. Unable to control my fear, I screamed before turning to run. Suddenly, three wolves from nowhere clashed with the two wolves. I was confused. I fell and crawled to the sides, my hands trembled as adrenaline filled my body. What was going on? The twin wolves ran away after being unable to fight any longer. Then the extra three wolves turned to me. I swallowed the bile which had formed in my throat. One of them shifted into his human form. “Who are you and why did you bring those rogues into this pack?” He demanded. I felt the dominant aura surrounding him and it terrified me. Suffocating me even. Being the daughter of an Alpha could not block his aura. “Pack?” I murmured. My eyes immediately fell on the sign of a wolf on all the trees, showing this was another pack's borders. Oh no. “I… I didn't know this…” I trailed off, not knowing what to say. The man growled, and before I could move away, he hit my head and everything went blank. ****************** My head felt like it had been pounced upon several times when I woke up. Sharp pains attacked me at that moment and my senses went numb. I opened my eyes but closed them again. The pain was unbearable. Slowly I drifted into sleep again. People were speaking beside me. Their voices pulled me out of my slumber. Slowly, this time, I pried my eyes open. I could see the silhouette of a man and a woman speaking a few steps away from me. Their figures were blurry, so I had to blink a few times. The man turned and when he noticed I had woken up, he walked up to me. My breath seized as he came closer. This man has the aura of an Alpha. But that wasn't the reason I was enthralled. It was his eyes. Dark brown eyes that seemed to see through me. His dark hair was short but had some long strands by his cheeks. It made him look youthful and handsome. That was it. He was a handsome man. Maybe not as handsome as Orion. “You're awake,” his husky voice said, pulling me away from my thoughts. I tried to sit up when I noticed something. My hands were handcuffed to the bed. I tried to pull them and got burned. “What is this? Who are you?” I asked with a glare. He raised an eyebrow. “You're in my pack, little girl. Now tell me why you trespassed or else I'll kill you slowly and give your body to rogues,” he threatened. Suddenly he didn't look handsome again. He meant every word he said. I glanced at the lady behind him and she looked fierce. I knew I couldn't keep the tone I started with if I wanted to survive. “I'm sorry, Alpha. It was a mistake. I was so tired last night, I didn't see the signs on the trees,” I apologized with a low tone and lowered my gaze to seem submissive. “How did you know I was an Alpha?” He growled and pulled my chin upward, so I was staring straight into his eyes. “You're a spy!” I gasped and shook my head. “No Alpha, you have the aura of an Alpha, so I guessed. I apologize,” I said, breathlessly. He paused for a moment before letting go of my chin. “She might be a spy, Alpha. We should send her away or kill her,” the woman behind him said with a glare in my direction. Why was she glaring at me? I didn't know her. “I'm not! Please, save me,” I pleaded, but he turned to leave. I panicked and tried to pull the chains, but it cut into my arms instead. “Please, I'm pregnant. If you don't save me, then at least save the child growing in me,” I yelled and his hands on the doorknob paused. He turned to me. “I'm carrying a child, Alpha. I beg of you.” “How many months?” He asked. I parted my lips to speak but was cut off. “What are you doing? It's none of your business,” the woman hissed. He took a step and she grabbed his arm. “She is pregnant, Alexa. We don't kill pregnant women,” he told her. I almost smiled. This was it. I will use this pregnancy to save myself. “The pregnancy is just a few weeks old. I was banished because of it and had nowhere to go. Please help me,” I cried out and watched as his expression changed. He walked up to me. “I can't feel any wolf within you, are you a wolf?” His eyes narrowed suspiciously. I nodded. It was shameful to explain my condition, but I had no choice. “I've not been able to shift but yes, I'm a wolf. My parents are both wolves.” He nodded. “There is a full moon tonight. You can force yourself to shift,” he suggested, looking intrigued. I understood his excitement. Alphas always loved solving problems. I guess I would have to be his new case. “I don't think so, but we could try,” I forced a small smile on my lips and his eyes fell on my lips immediately. A glint passed through his brown eyes and left like it never happened. “I believe you can stay till you give birth. It is not safe in the woods,” he murmured with uncertainty. “Alpha!” Alexa yelled. I had almost forgotten about her. “I've made my decision, Alexa,” he insisted. She grumbled something under her breath and walked away. “My name is Hudson and I'm the Alpha of the Lunar Shadow pack. What's your name?” He stretched forth his hand towards me. “I'm Lyra,” I answered. ****************************** I couldn't believe it. I was unable to peel my eyes from the calendar in front of me. It was the twenty-sixth of March, my birthday. I have officially turned eighteen. Tears sprang to my eyes but I held them. I missed home. I miss my parents. My mum would have made a small cake for me and sang Happy Birthday with joy in her eyes. But not anymore. I was in a strange pack with no one to speak to. What had I done? Doubt started creeping into my heart. Who knew I could ever run away from home, pregnant and alone? I sighed and decided to take a walk. As I opened my door, I saw a man standing beside the door. He glanced at me with a curious gaze. “I was going to take a walk outside,” I whispered. He grunted and started walking. I think Alpha Hudson had kept him to watch over me. “Where is the Alpha?” I asked him. “Out,” he answered rudely, so I kept quiet and followed his lead. We left the house and entered the woods. Alpha Hudson had promised to help me shift. Where was he? I glanced at the moon. It was a full moon and, as usual, I felt nothing. No urge or intense pain to shift. After walking for a while, I decided to turn around when suddenly something shifted inside of me. The night was no longer dark but red. I glanced up and saw the sky turning red. It was an eclipse, a lunar eclipse to be precise. I had never seen one before. As I took a step towards the house, pain coursed through my body at that instant, making me scream, and I fell to my knees. The image of a white wolf flashed in front of me. What was this? Was she my wolf? I tried to stand but fell to my knees again. I heard the guard saying something faintly but couldn't hear him. My bones started shifting. It was so painful, tears fell from my eyes as I screamed. After what felt like an eternity, I had fully shifted into a white wolf. When I tried to move, a growl emanated from my throat and suddenly, I found myself running. What was going on? I couldn't control myself. The strong stench of blood enticed me and I changed direction, running towards it. I arrived and saw a fight going on. Without thinking, I jumped into the fight, biting and scratching. I couldn't stop. The wolves started running away when I heard a familiar voice. “Unbelievable,” Hudson gasped. He stared at me with shock. “They are no longer Lycans, Alpha,” someone yelled. What did he mean? “That's not all. She is my mate,” he whispered.
