Chapter 5

They continued walking through the woods, the trees thinning until they opened into a clearing, a natural amphitheater bathed in the soft glow of the moon. And in the centre of the clearing, nestled between the tall trees, was a large, imposing cabin. It was far grander than the small cottage she shared with her mother and her heart beat faster as they drew near, a mixture of excitement and fear battling in her chest. The walls were crafted from dark wood, the windows were large and imposing. The structure had a primal kind of beauty that made it seem like it had grown out of the earth itself. Smoke curled lazily from a chimney, a sign that someone was within. She wondered if the wolves she had seen were there, if she was now in their territory. The man opened the door, ushering her in. The interior was just as impressive as the exterior. It was larger than she expected, with a vast open room, complete with a large fireplace crackling merrily. The scent of woodsmoke and something else, something spicy and exotic, hung heavy in the air. Everything was made of wood and leather, the room lit by flickering candlelight that danced across the walls, making the shadows stretch and writhe. Bella took a hesitant step forward, her eyes taking in every detail. There were thick rugs on the wooden floor, large comfortable-looking chairs surrounding the fireplace, and a sturdy table in the center of the room. The room felt both luxurious and rustic, a reflection of the man who had brought her here. “This is… amazing,” she whispered, her voice filled with a mixture of awe and trepidation. She didn’t understand how anyone could live in such grandeur, so far away from everything she knew. The man turned to face her, his eyes taking in every inch of her face. “It is your home now.” A shiver went down her spine. Her home? This place, so far removed from everything she had ever known, was not her home. He may have brought her here, but that didn’t mean she belonged. “I don’t want it to be,” she said, her voice shaking slightly. He didn’t react to her protest, instead turning his back and walking toward the fireplace, where he began to poke at the burning logs. “You don’t get a say in this, little bird. Not anymore.” Her anger boiled again. She hated the name, and she hated the way that he was treating her, as though she was a possession that he could simply take. “I’m not a bird,” she said, her voice rising slightly. “I’m Bella.” He turned to look at her, a strange expression on his face. It was almost like a smile, but there was a dark edge to it, a hint of something that was both unsettling and alluring. “Bella,” he said, the sound of her name like a caress against her skin. “It suits you.” She didn’t like the way he said her name, or the way he was looking at her, like he was a hunter who had finally cornered his quarry. She crossed her arms over her chest, trying to project a confidence she didn’t feel. “Why have you brought me here? What do you want?” He walked toward her, each step deliberate, each movement filled with a contained power that made her heart race. He stopped in front of her, his body so close that she could feel the heat radiating from his skin. She wanted to step back, to put some distance between them, but her feet seemed rooted to the spot. “I want you,” he said, his voice low and husky. Her breath hitched in her throat. She didn’t know what she expected him to say, but it wasn’t that. His words were raw, possessive, and sent a strange thrill through her. She looked into his eyes, trying to see through to what lurked beneath the surface, but she couldn’t penetrate his hard exterior. His gaze was like an inferno, drawing her in, burning away her fear, replacing it with a strange, dangerous longing. “Why?” She managed to choke out, her voice barely a whisper. He reached out, his fingers brushing against her cheek, the touch sending a shiver through her body. “Because you belong to me now.” The words were possessive, terrifying, and strangely…exciting. She didn't understand the pull she felt towards him, the way her body responded to his touch, to his gaze. It was as if some unseen force was drawing them closer, pushing them towards a point of no return. He lowered his head, his lips brushing against hers. His kiss was nothing like she expected. It wasn't gentle, or sweet. It was raw, demanding, a push and pull of dominance and surrender. Her lips parted, wanting more, her body leaning into his. His arms came around her, pulling her into him. Then his tongue was in her mouth. He tasted like smoke and spice and something else, something wild and untamed that made her body ache with an unfamiliar need. The kiss deepened, his tongue tracing the shape of her mouth, then dipping past her teeth. She moaned softly against his lips, her hands clutching at his back, as if holding on for dear life. She felt her own heat ignite, a fire that burned through her veins, making her forget everything, but the taste of him, the feel of his skin against hers. He pulled away, his breath ragged, his eyes dark with desire. “You’re mine, Bella.” He said, his voice a low growl. She didn’t answer, her own breath coming in short, sharp gasps. She was confused, scared, but her body was betraying her. She wanted him, she needed him. She had never felt anything like this before but she'd never had anyone look at her like this or make her feel so alive. He took her hand, pulling her toward the stairs, his eyes never leaving hers. “Come, it’s time to show you your room.” Her heart hammered against her ribs. She didn’t know what she was doing, allowing him to take her up the stairs, deeper into the unknown. But she went anyway, drawn in by a force she didn’t understand.
