~(Ouma x Saihara) Safe and Sound~

The hydraulic press. That was the last thing Ouma remembered. The plan was simple, yet the thought of knowing that you had to die soon wasn't the nicest. But here he was, the press lowering, everything closing in. He kept convincing himself that it'll all be over soon. The press will crush him and everybody would be free if that moron, of course, will do everything correct. He won't be able to be there with everyone in the outside world, to see DICE, to see... Shuichi smile one more time. But at least he'll know that they're all fine, the remaining survivors. And maybe, just maybe, he'll be able to watch over them when they get out. Press got lowered. Ouma closed his eyes. Here it comes. He's gonna die. He's gonna- SMASH! And with that...the press crushed him. He then felt himself being in a dark abyss. Numbers. Numbers everywhere. Ones and zeroes appearing and disappearing. What was this place? However before he had the chance to react, he was blinded by a bright light. He reached out and... . . . . . . Ouma woke up breathing heavily. He looked around frantically. Where is he?! What is this?! No, he shouldn't be panicking. He took a deep breath, before finally calming down and examining his surroundings. He wasn't on the press and it didn't even look as if he was in any of the locations in the enclosed school they were trapped in. This looked like a... hospital. He looked at his arm. It had a dark bracelet which had just flashed green text. Restoration Process: Successful Possible Damage: None Detected Current Status: Awake Awake? What does that mean? He then heard a sound he didn't expect to hear. Car engines and birds chirping. What were cars and birds doing in the dome? They weren't there before. He looked out the window and gasped in shock. He wasn't in the school building, he wasn't even in the dome, he was... Back in the outside world. Tall buildings lined the horizon. People walked along the streets, happy and smiling as cars drove past them. Birds flew in the sky chirping. Sun shined brightly and he felt the slight wind brush against his skin as it came inside the room through the open window. Ouma felt himself tear up. Is the killing game over? Was it all just some twisted dream that he had finally woken up from? He suddenly heard footsteps coming from the hallway. He immediately lied down pretending to sleep. If this turned out to be some lie he would rather just be oblivious for a little longer. Plus eavesdropping can be good. He heard the footsteps closer and closer. They didn't sound like Monokuma, but this person can be someone else. Like Kaede or Kaito or Shuichi. Then, a sudden smell of sweet lavender showed up in the room. Did this person hold flowers? Either way, Ouma loved the smell of lavender. Did this person know that was his favorite flower? Maybe it was one of his friends from DICE? "Hey, Ouma... You know it's been a while. You out of everyone here seem to be taking longer than anyone else in the simulation... You're the last one left to wake up" Suddenly a voice spoke. Ouma quickly recognized the voice. Saihara-chan. But what was Shuichi doing here? Why would he visit him after he screamed at him that 'he'll always be alone'? To be honest Ouma couldn't even be mad at Shuichi for that. He loved Shuichi and everything Shuichi said was true anyway. Nobody would remember him after his inevitable death. "The doctors said they tried everything they can, but the tragic circumstances of your death, caused some malfunctions in the system, they said it might even be impossible for you to ever...wake up" Ever wake up? Well, that was lucky then. But wait, Shuichi said that this was a simulation...Does that mean everyone else is alive too?! Did they all recover?! Ouma felt happiness. He had to stop himself from smiling. Maybe everything will be alright. Maybe this means that they can return back to their homes and try to forget this ever happened! Yet... the question why Shuichi came here was still to be answered. "Most of our friends g-gave up on you. They doubt you'll ever wake up, but I stayed. I kept visiting you, even if you aren't aware of it." He kept visiting...? Now, this was weird. Why would someone visit someone they hate? Was it pity? Regret? Or maybe something else. There was also another thing Ouma noticed. Shuichi was stuttering. Was he nervous to talk to him? "I don't know if you can hear me but I just wanted to say... I-I'm sorry." ... What. "I was a jerk to you during the game. I said that you'll always be alone and... I just can't forgive myself for that. You didn't deserve that, nobody deserves that." Ouma felt paralyzed. Was Shuichi really apologizing to him? Ouma didn't expect this. Then again, Shuichi always was the apologetic one. Maybe it was just a part of his conscience that told him to do that and not an actual apology. "If I maybe had just spent more time with you...if I didn't give up so easily...if I tried to understand you maybe this would've never happened...Maybe we could've even have been good friends? Maybe you'd even be alive..." ... "When we escaped the simulation, Maki and I investigated your room to get some possible information for the trial...I never realized that you felt that way about me. Trustworthy? I only realized that you cared about me when you died." Ouma had to hold back a blush. The detective uncovered his secrets. Did he find anything else except the board? He probably found out about DICE and the drawings Ouma made. Maybe he even found the script he had prepared? He just hoped that he wouldn't have to explain the big paper cutout of Rantaro when he wakes up. That'd be awkward.  "I can't believe I didn't notice your true feelings sooner. You said you hate liars but... you kept lying from the start. If you really meant it... that would mean you hated doing that. You hated lying but you said this game could only be won if you suspect everyone, and in a way you were right. Without suspecting Gonta, we would've all died, however without belief, everyone would be paranoid." ... "I-I'm so sorry O-Ouma...I-I'm sorry I h-hurt you ... I shouldn't have said that to you and I should've made more effort in trying to understand who you were and...and how you never actually had bad intentions." Ouma felt sadness as he heard the despair Shuichi had in his voice. Did Shuichi really feel so much guilt over his actions? He did absolutely nothing wrong yet he was acting as if he had just committed a crime. It wasn't fair. Shuichi shouldn't feel this way because of him because he doesn't deserve it. "Y-You were just trying to help us in your own way, right? You helped us stay together by targeting you. That's of course, just my understanding, I guess I don't really know much about you in the end. After all, it could be a lie. Or not." Once again the inability to reply was getting to him. He wanted to hug Shuichi. He wanted to tell him nothing was his fault. He wanted to say sorry for all the stupid things he did during the game. But he was curious as to what Shuichi was going to say next. "If...If you can hear me...please...please wake up. I don't want you to die...I want you to live. I want to start over." ...Silence... "Heh, I guess it's funny how you never notice how much you care for someone until that person's gone. It took you to die for me to realize I...I...I love you." Ouma's heart suddenly stopped. His beloved Shuichi... loved him. How? What? Why? How could he love a being like him? Thoughts ran through his mind as he was panicking on the inside. He loved Shuichi... and now Shuichi loves him back. ... "I...I promise I won't give up on you as the others did. I want you to live. I want to be by your side. So I'll keep visiting. Visiting u-until you wake up! Cause I know that you don't give up easily." Ouma's heart stopped. Everything about this moment, it felt so nice. They were free, Shuichi loved him. However, the c****x hit when he suddenly felt something on his forehead. It was a kiss. Ouma's heart pounded and he wished for nothing but to stay with Shuichi forever. ... "I miss you." Ouma couldn't handle it. He peeked out his hand from under the cover lightly, showing the flashing green 'AWAKE' status on the bracelet. "What the-!" Shuichi said surprised as Ouma opened his eyes with a cheeky smile. "Heh, that was quite the speech there Mr. Detective~...do you write a script before apologizing to people or do you improvise?" Ouma said with a chuckle. Saihara's eyes teared up. He basically bearhugged Ouma. Ouma frowned lightly "Hey, don't cry! I'm not dead, right?" Shuichi pulled away from Ouma for a second. "DON'T YOU EVER MAKE JOKES LIKE THAT AFTER WHAT HAPPENED!" He yelled louder to make his point across. Ouma looked surprised but then smiled "Nishishi~ Sorry Saihara-chan. " he said hugging him again. "By the way, you didn't have to say those lies about loving me that was unneeded." Ouma answered. Shuichi looked at him puzzled. "What lies?" Ouma's face started heating up as he realized what Saihara meant. He didn't sound like he was lying, but someone loving him is just so improbable. It was impossible for Shuichi to ever love him... Right? "Well, I assume you lied, heh. I mean I understand you hate me after what happened right?" Ouma said chuckling nervously. "Hate...you?" Saihara said with an almost heartbroken expression. Ouma's blush only intensified. He was even more stunned and shocked than when he was when Shuichi said that hurtful thing on Gonta's trial. His mouth was slightly open still confused. "Surely you can't make me believe you love me back r-right? Did you fall on your head before you came here??" he said nervously.  "But I do care for you, Ouma... I'm so sorry for making you feel like you didn't matter at all to me because you do. You matter to me, Ouma" Shuichi said hugging Ouma. Ouma could only stare. Was this really happening? Shuichi hugged him as Ouma's eyes began to tear up. He did not mean for this to happen but no matter how much he suppressed it, they still fell from his eyes like little raindrops from a rainy cloud. He weakly hugged back. "I...I love you Shuichi... I'm sorry for all I've done! I'm so sorry for all the hurt I caused you...I...I just wanted to h-help..." Ouma yelled out sobbing. Shuichi smiled. "It's okay, Ouma..." You're safe now. We're safe now.
