Saihara loved the spring weather. And today was one of those hotter days in this season, so you can pretty much say that Saihara started the day of happily. He was just sitting in his classroom, reading his precious book when Miss Yukizome suddenly walked in with a huge grin on her face.
"Hello, class! I just wanted to let you all know that in about two weeks we are all going on a school trip to a large resort on an island. My first thought was that we should go to the Jabberwock Islands but after discussing it with the principal, we thought it'd be better to go somewhere else. The Island we're going to has a lot of great sightseeing spots, a large beach, fancy resort and lots of other fun activities for you to do. The island is always busy with parties and social events I know you all love very much! We're going to stay there for maybe three or four days and considering I know you're a responsible class, there are no spots we'll go at a specific time. The only rule is to be back by 11:00 PM at the hotel. Besides that, you're allowed to do whatever you wish first because, by the time we get back, you'll be able to do it all." Yukizome clapped her hands. "Are you excited?" The class cheered in agreement.
Kaede squeaked "I think I know what island Miss Yukizome is talking about! If I'm correct then a piano concert should be there in exactly two weeks!" She said happily. Saihara smiled "Sounds fun but I don't think I'll come also-" "They have a gigantic bookstore just in the center of the city. And all the funds are going to animals in animal shelters." Kaede said which made Saihara laugh "Oh, Kaede, you know me so well...fine I'll go" Kaede nodded "Yeah Saihara. You were a book nerd ever since Elementary school.". We kept talking about the trip and what we're gonna do there until Miss Yukizome started talking about homework we were supposed to do.
After class ended, we met up with Kaito, Maki, Miu, Rantaro, and Tsumugi. We discussed what we wished to do first when we were on the island. "I was thinking of going to that piano concert. The tickets aren't very expensive so I'd be nice to go" Kaede said to which Miu nodded. "Yeah well, I heard there's a lot of boutiques there. Tsumugi and I probably gonna go see if we can get our hands on some cosplay or nail polish for my sisters." Rantaro said with Tsumugi happily agreeing and talking about the different fabrics produced on the island. "Maki Roll and I thought about going to the beach. The climate there is just perfect for swimming and sunbathing!" Kaito said smiling while Maki just blushed and pulled on her hair. "What are you gonna do first Shuichi?" Kaede asked to which Shuichi sighed "I'll probably head to the bookstore and maybe sightsee a bit". Kaito facepalmed "Dude, is the bookstore all you're ever at? Seriously, live your life a little!".
"But-" "No buts! When we get there, you're only allowed two visits to the bookstore, got it, sidekick!?" Kaito yelled making Saihara chuckle at how ridiculous Kaito sounded right now. "Fine...I promise." Saihara said smiling. Kaito smiled back "Great! We're gonna have a great time together and you're tagging along everywhere. You'll finally get out of that comfort bubble you created around yourself!" Kaede said encouragingly. "Okay, guys! I heard the message! Stop book reading and do something else for the trip. That's doable." Saihara said smiling. Soon the bell rang and everyone had to go to class.
During the next lesson, Shuichi could only think about what dumb things his friends will make him go on the trip. Beach, malls, cafes. Shuichi sighed. Well, for now, he can't worry about that. It's still a couple of weeks until the trip...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There it was. The day of the trip. Saihara honestly wasn't sure about this but he promised his friends to tag along, so he'll tag along. He woke up to about a thousand messages from Kaito and Kaede talking about how great the trip will be on their group chat which honestly slightly pissed him off. Why would this trip be so great? Shuichi quickly grabbed the phone and packed it along with other things he decided to bring on the trip, like his favourite detective novel or his journal. He usually wrote they're in order to get his thoughts and feelings down, as he wasn't that great doing it in public. He just liked to stay in his room, read books, listen to music and scroll on social media. The outside of that bubble was never a thing he liked. He didn't like crowded places, he didn't like loud noises, he didn't like social interactions. A person not very interesting or noteworthy. But enough about that. Shuichi grabbed his bag and went out.
He soon arrived at the spot where their class was supposed to meet. Most of his friends were already there. When Kaede noticed Shuichi, she smiled and waved "Hey Shuichi! You've come!". "Yeah, I couldn't just leave you guys hanging." Shuichi said to which Kaito laughed "Trust me, sidekick, this will be the best trip of your life!" he said to which Saihara just looked at him weirdly "How long will you keep talking about that? We're not even on the plane yet!". Kaede giggled "Sorry, It's just fun to think about it you know? You're not really the person to attend parties and stuff so you don't really get our excitement!" Shuichi groaned. Soon everyone arrived and Miss Yukizome ordered us to get on the bus that will drive us to the airport.
Once at the airport, every day just got onto the plane as fast as they could and sat down. Once on the plane, everyone went doing things they wanted.
Kaito almost immediately went asleep, Kaede was fixing up her make-up, Miu was munching on some nuts she bought from the stewardess, Tenko was calming Himiko down since she had a phobia of heights and Saihara and Tsumugi were reading books. Saihara glanced at Tsumugi to see her read her book, giggling and blushing lightly. "What are you reading Tsumugi?" Shuichi asked, closing his detective book and pointing at the purple-covered book with a white heart on it.
"Oh! It's a love story about this boy Taro who gets sent by his parents on a camp because he has trouble making friends at his school. But he's unable to meet anyone at the camp so occasionally he sneaks out the camp to go walk on the beach alone as it reminds him of the beach back at his hometown. He then meets a boy named Sachihiro that shows him around the island and they fall in love. It's called Summertime Romance. It's really good so far!" Tsumugi said happily "What about you?"
"Just some quick story about a young detective and a teenage phantom thief. I'm only at the beginning so nothing interesting happened yet... but I think the detective has feelings for the teen thief. Kinda hope they end up together." Saihara said to which Tsumugi laughed "Well, I hope they'll end up together. Thieves and detectives just fit together well."
The rest of the ride went smoothly. No turbulence, just getting off the plane and a quick bus drive to the luxurious hotel. The island was indeed beautiful, just like others said. A small town by the ocean with a couple of cafes and small stores that were mostly unbranded and one of a kind. A wide beach was there along with cliffs with rich flora, an archipelago on the south of the island and small streams going down rocks. The beauty of the entire island was calming and relaxing. No wonder the resort over here had been voted one of the most popular resorts.
Once at the resort, everyone gasped. White building with a pool in the back and a swing to relax on. A foosball table and a comfortable lounge with a small food area. Mrs. Yukizome quickly went to the lad and grabbed the keys to the reserved rooms. Room 4 was the one assigned to me. We all went to our average sized rooms. Saihara was quite tired and thought about maybe taking a nap, but decided on checking out the town's bookstore first. It was early after all, and his favorite crime story 'Sixteen Blue Lights' had just released a new installment in the series a couple months ago and he didn't get the chance to buy it. Maybe he can find it in the bookstore?
Shuichi went out the resort. Some students have already gotten comfortable in the hotel with Kaito and Kaede playing foosball and Tsumugi and Rantaro sitting in the lounge talking. Shuichi walked out and headed to town. The small town was surprisingly bustling with life. Cafes seemed full and girls seemed to walk down the streets with at least one bag of clothing or items. The bookstore was at the exact edge of town right by the road that led to the resort. It had a big marble logo of an owl on the top. Shuichi went inside the bookstore and grinned.
The bookstore was flooded with books, top to bottom. There were so many, stacks of books were actually on the floor. There was the second floor also filled with books and couches to read on.
Shuichi quickly went through the books on the first floor. Couple of cryptic books, some horrors. By the time he got them, there was a huge stack of books in his hand. He then spotted a sign in the distance. It said that detective and crime stories were on the second floor. He swiftly moved towards the staircase but suddenly...
BAM!
He accidentally walked into someone. The stack of books scattered on the floor. "Oh! I'm so sorry!" He heard a voice say concerned. He looked up, only to see a young and pretty short boy reaching a handout. He had a pastel purple shirt on and a checkered scarf. His purple innocent eyes sparkled and he had had shiny purple hair. He was...adorable to say the least. Shuichi accepted and got on his feet. They both stood there awkwardly before the boy realized that the books were still scattered on the ground. "O-Oh! Let me get those for you!" The boy said as he crouched down to pick up the books. "O-Oh you don't have to!" Shuichi said trying to grab one of the books. But sadly resulted in an even more anxious for Shuichi situation.
Their hands touching.
The boy blushed and quickly moved his hand away from the book "Well isn't this cliche?" He said as he stood up and handed Saihara the rest of the books. "Yeah, it is..." Shuichi said still blushing. "I see you also like horrors. Although I wouldn't recommend the one you picked out. It's just a horrible horror version of Beauty & The Beast with a very disappointing ending." He said pointing to a horror book in Shuichi's hand. "Oh well, I actually prefer detective stories too horrors-" "You like detective stories too?! I LOVE detective stories!" he said with sparkly eyes. Shuichi almost chuckled at how childish the boy acted right now "My favorite detective series is Sixteen Purple Lights! Although the criminal's actions are slightly predictable." the boy said. Shuichi smiled brightly "I like that story too, I was actually hoping to find the next installment. I heard it came out like two months ago and I haven't found the time to look for it. So I'm doing it now.".
The boy's eyes widened before grinning "Well, I'm glad that I finally have someone that I can talk to about my favorite novels. Are you from around here?" he asked to which Shuichi shook his head "No, my class is on a two-week school trip here. I didn't really want to come since I knew my friends would probably drag me out to public places such as stupid parties. And like the introverted book fan I am, I'd probably just sit in the corner... Also, my name is Shuichi Saihara. I don't think I introduced myself yet." he said slightly embarrassed "No you didn't. But I didn't either so, my name is Kokichi Ouma, but Ouma's just fine." he said sweetly "But I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay on this island. Even without parties and public festivals you can find something to enjoy on your own." Ouma said. Before Shuichi got a chance to respond he heard a familiar voice call out to him.
"Shuichi, I knew I'd find you here!"
It was Kaede. She quickly walked up to him, smiling "Seriously though, you spend way too much time in bookstores..." she pouted before looking at Ouma. "Oh, I see you made a friend! Hello!" Kaede said waving to Ouma in a sweet manner. Ouma smiled back "Hi! Name's Ouma. Are you one of Shuichi's classmates?" Kaede nodded "Yep! Oh! Which reminds..." Kaede said turning to Shuichi "Rantaro, Tsumugi, Maki, Kaito, and I are going to hang out at the beach! And we thought maybe you'd join us!" Kaede said. Shuichi was about to decline, but Kaede almost immediately pulled out her puppy dog eyes. "Fine..." Shuichi groaned while Kaede smiled "Yay! You agreed! Ouma would you like to come too?" she asked. Ouma thought for a moment before grinning "Sure. I don't have anything better to do, so why not~?" Shuichi blushed, not really knowing the reason why. Was it just the anxiety of meeting a new person? Perhaps, but the feeling he got after seeing the Ouma's smile...it didn't feel like only anxiety, there was some nice tint to it.
In any case, Shuichi walked out the library to see his two friends, Maki, and Kaito outside. "Guys! this is Shuichi's newly-made friend! Ouma" Kaede said excited, to which Shuichi looked at her slightly "Kaede, he's a living being. Not a 'newly-made' doll" he said to which Ouma gave a pouty face "Don't talk like I'm not here!". Kaede apologized but quickly returned to her positive self. "Anyway, this is Amami-chan and his girlfriend Tsumugi," she said pointing to Amami and Tsumugi "And that's Maki and Kaito!" she chirped. "Hello!" Ouma said innocently. "Well, are we going or not, I can't wait to swim in the crystal clear water!" Kaito yelled to which Tsumugi beamed "I don't see why not. The beach isn't far so we can easily walk there on foot..." Tsumugi said. Kaede clapped her hands "Great!
Let's go then!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once they got to the beach, everything went as Shuichi predicted. Amami and Tsumugi looked around for seashells for Amami's collection, Kaede and Maki went to a tropical bar to get drinks and Kaito went swimming, leaving Shuichi alone with Ouma, sitting on the beach sand. "I knew this would happen. Ending up alone isn't that new..." Ouma pouted "Am I really that unnoticeable?". "Oh, I'm s-so-!" Shuichi stuttered but Ouma completely broke into tears "WAAAH! SHUICHI HATES ME!". This sadly made Shuichi even more anxious in this situation "I'm sorry-!" Shuichi quickly apologized but only heard a small giggle from Ouma. "Nishishi~! It's a lie~! I'm not bothered at all! But you seem to be with your friends' absence." he said. Shuichi reluctantly nodded "I don't really know what I should do now...".
"Well, I do!" Ouma stood up, surprising Shuichi "There's a little secret place on this beach that is just amazing! Here, I'll show you! Ouma grabbed Shuichi's hand and pulled him up. Ouma was surprisingly fast so Saihara could barely catch up as Ouma pulled him in an unknown direction. Ouma pulled me close to the cliff, which was attached to the hill the resort was in. A strong rope was attached to something high up that Shuichi couldn't see what it was. "Trust me on this Shuichi!" Ouma said as he proceeded to climb the rope which led god knows where. Shuichi hesitated but went up the rope anyways, following Ouma. Once at the top of the rope, Ouma brushed some of the vines aside, only to reveal a little cozy caving in the cliff. He casually went in and sat down waiting for his friend to join him. Shuichi slowly got in, but almost lost his footing. However, Ouma stood up, grabbed him by the hand and pulled him in. But considering there wasn't much space between Ouma and the edge, he basically pulled Shuichi and made him fall into him, making them end up lying on top of each other.
Ouma hissed, I mean Shuichi was pretty heavy. Shuichi immediately got off him "I-I'm sorry! Are you okay?" he asked. Ouma groaned and rubbed his head but grinned anyways "Why are you so apologetic Saihara? You're acting like a cute anime girl!" Shuichi blushed. This only made Ouma press further with his teasing "Well, you do look quite feminine. People could easily mistake you for a short-haired, flat girl~" Ouma giggled making Shuichi blush even harder. "Anyways, I love coming up here at sundown. You can see the sun on the horizon of the ocean and hear the waves echo great from here" Ouma said, sitting by the edge and looking at the reddish sky. Shuichi joined him and sat down, the look was indeed beautiful. "How did you find this place?" Shuichi asked curious "Eh, I and my cousin were playing with her grandpa's grappling hook and we kinda managed to get here. We liked this place so we made it our own little cave! Hence all the childish drawings at the left wall of the cave..." Ouma pointed to the left wall of the cave. There were colorful drawings scribbled all over the wall. "I don't really know how held on this place but still, I don't question it. After my cousin left, I decided to attach a rope here, since I didn't want to abandon this place. Held too many memories for me to abandon it." Ouma said looking at the horizon, smiling. Shuichi couldn't help but smile as he saw, the pastel boy happily looking at the waves. He didn't understand why but the boy's presence made him feel at peace. Calm, like the ocean waves.
"Do you wanna go back to your friends? I'm sure that my reminiscing is boring to you." He said as he turned to Saihara. Saihara shook his head "No, I don't mind you reminiscing! But I think my friends are worried about me..." Shuichi said trying not to hurt the boy's feelings by leaving "But the day's not over! You can still hang out with me and my friends!". Ouma grinned "Thanks, it's been a while since I hanged out with a friend!" Ouma said happily. Shuichi and Ouma quickly went down the rope and went where they were previously standing, at the center of the beach. When they got there, they saw some of Saihara's friends were already there. Kaito, Maki, and Kaede were eating ice cream of different flavors that they bought from the tropical bar.
"Ah! Shuichi, Ouma you're back from...uh...wherever you guys went" Kaede said. "I won't tell you where we were. It's a secret~!" Ouma giggled. "We bought you some ice cream, Shuichi! I'm sorry Ouma but we didn't bring enough money to buy you an ice cream. Sorry.." Tsumugi said sadly. "Oh, It's fine," Ouma said a fake smile on his face "I don't mind". He clearly wanted ice cream but didn't want to be a bother. I took the chocolate ice cream cone in my hand and looked over at him. "I-If you want you can have my ice cream..."Ouma blushed "Well, i-if you insist I'll steal your ice cream!" Ouma said taking the ice cream out of Shuichi's hands. The touch of Ouma soft, warm hands made Shuichi immediately blush. "Thanks for the ice cream Saihara -chan~!" he said, making Shuichi blush even more at the usage the '-chan'. "N-No problem" Saihara stuttered out.
"So what do we do now? Tsumugi, you said you had an idea." Amami asked to which Tsumugi nodded "Yes I do! From what I can remember, there is a theme park, south-west of the island. Isn't that right Ouma?" she said. Ouma nodded "Yeah, they built it there in order to attract tourists." Ouma said, "I can lead you there if you want!".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone decided to walk over to the theme park. It was a regular theme park. Okay, maybe slightly bigger than your average small town theme park. A Ferris Wheel, a roller coaster, carousel, food stands, arcade, bumper wheels, and spinning teacups ride. So there was no surprise to see a lot of people walking around. "Yay! I was hoping to see a rollercoaster." Kaede said clapped her hands. "That carousel! It looks almost like the one from Melanie Martinez's music video! I have to ride it!" Tsumugi said pointing to a red cart with a tray of caramel apples. "I am going to the bumper cars." Kaito said to which Maki rolled her eyes "The thought I have a boyfriend who is too scared to go on a rollercoaster and likes bumper cars makes me wanna shoot things. I'm going to the arcade" she said walking off. Soon everyone left, leaving Ouma and Shuichi once again alone.
"Hey, Saihara-chan! Can we go to the arcade? I can pretty much ensure you that it's the best place in the entire park" Ouma said, pointing to the arcade. Shuichi nodded after seeing how much the boy actually wanted to go to an arcade. "Great!" Ouma grabbed Saihara by the hand and ran into the arcade area. Old arcade machines, air hockey, foosball, shooting games, racing games, and claw machines were all there. The entire arcade was flashing with different neon colors. They quickly spotted Maki shooting furiously in a Duck shooting game but Ouma quickly pulled Shuichi to an air hockey table.
"Shuichi wanna play air hockey? I bet you, I'll win!" Ouma said, a competitive look showing in his eyes. Saihara reluctantly nodded to which Ouma laughed "Seriously Saihara, you need to stop fearing the outside world, but if it's hard for you to break from your habits and you need time, that's fine as well". Shuichi blushed. His friends were never so accepting of his insecurities. They'd always nag about it which was always annoying to Shuichi. "So are we playing or what?" Ouma asked, putting in a silver coin and holding a hockey puck in his hand with a mischievous smirk. "O-Okay..." Shuichi said nervously. Ouma grabbed the air hockey striker and passed the other one to Shuichi.
And the game began...
GAME 1 END!
As Ouma predicted, he won... by one point but still. He smiled triumphantly "YES! The Phantom Thief, Kokichi Ouma wins again!". Shuichi laughed "Are you making detective book references now?" "So, what if I am? Is this an interrogation~?" he said jokingly. Saihara smiled. This was actually pretty fun. They decided to play some more games on the machines until Ouma spotted a claw machine with a green and white bear inside and paper token stand.
"Hmmm..."
Shuichi walked around the arcade. He has surprisingly lost Ouma. Turns out, Ouma was good at sneaking off, which made the phantom thief reference slightly funnier in Shuichi's opinion. Shuichi started to overthink the situation. Was the boy bored of him? Maybe he'd rather hang out with his other friends. That thought process was interrupted when he saw the pastel boy standing by the claw machine taking a plushie in his hands. Shuichi walked up to the boy, startling him slightly. "Wow, Shuichi! You scared me!" Ouma said sighing in relief when he saw it was just Shuichi there. "Sorry...Why did you sneak off Ouma?" he asked puzzled to which Ouma laughed, confusing Shuichi even more.
"Actually...I wanted to give you this!" He said handing Shuichi the green bear plushie "You've been so nice to me. Besides, a hell of a kiss like you deserves a gift once in a while!" he smiled. Shuichi blushed hard "W-What do y-you mean by a hell of a k-kiss?!". Ouma giggled "Dummy, I mean I think you're cute! Like right now, with that strawberry blush on your cheeks!". Saihara just stood there blushing harder by the second with the green teddy in his hands. What was this warm feeling in his chest? "Anyway, do you like it?" Shuichi nodded "Y-Yeah, I l-love it." he said. "I'm glad. Wanna go out to eat? I saw a cart with free caramel apples close to the rollercoaster..."
"O-Okay..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The rest of the day was spent on rollercoasters, carousels and candy eating. Shuichi found himself getting more and more attached to the pastel teen with each passing moment. His cute eyes, his sweet laugh. Saihara was happy he met the boy. Currently, they had visited most of the plays in the theme park, arcade, roller coaster, the carousel. Right now they were walking around with candy cotton and two plush bears. Shuichi won Ouma a second teddy bear from a shooting game cause he felt too guilty by accepting a gift and not giving anything back.
They soon run into Tsumugi and Amami who were holding salted caramel apples. "Well look at you socializing! You're like a new person!" Tsumugi said cheerfully making Amami roll his eyes "Tsumugi, I think you might be annoying Shuichi with that. You're treating him like a kid." Tsumugi sighed "Sorry, I still have a hard time getting out that habit". "It's fine, Tsumugi. " Shuichi said shyly. "Well anyways, the curfew Miss Yukizome set for us is growing near, so we have to go. I'm pretty sure the rest of our friends will do the same" Amami said. "Yeah, I think that be best..." Tsumugi said sad "I wish I could've stayed longer. This theme park is amazing!" she then turned to Shuichi "Let's go Shuichi!". Shuichi looked over at Ouma who was blushing a light shade of pink, hugging one of the plushies tight in his hands. "Shuichi, do you mind me...walking you there?" he said awkwardly. Shuichi was surprised at Ouma's question but didn't refuse. As they walked to the hotel they talked about mindless things. Card games, books, kittens, anime... just anything that came to mind.
Once they reached the place they stared at each other in silence. Tsumugi and Amami kissed and then turned to Ouma "Bye Ouma! It's been nice spending time with you today!" and then went away. Saihara smiled awkwardly "I had fun tonight. Didn't know I could I could enjoy playing games with someone like that. Also, you really shouldn't have bought me this green stuffed toy" Saihara said making Ouma roll his eyes "Saihara, that claw machine was one arcade token which costs half a dollar. You're not stealing cash from me or anything" Saihara laughed slightly embarrassed "I know, but-" "Shush. It's fine, stop feeling bad." Ouma put a finger up to Shuichi's lips, quickly shutting him up. "Anyways I have to go now. It's getting late and my mom is probably worried about me. See you around, Saihara-chan~!" The boy said before waving and walking off with the yellow and white teddy bear. "Y-Yeah...Bye..." Saihara said anxiously before walking back to the hotel. When he got there, Mrs. Yukizome counted if everybody was in the lobby and sent them to their hotel rooms.
At night, Shuichi was lying down with the plush bear bed. It smelled of lavender.
Just like Ouma.
These thoughts, of course, made Shuichi blush, but pretty soon he just fell asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Next morning, Shuichi woke up late. It didn't really surprise him, considering it was late when they came to the hotel, and he still was reading books in bed, even after the curfew. He rubbed his eyes and got himself ready for the morning. He saw Tsumugi and Rantaro were sitting in the small dining area enjoying food from the buffet. "Hi Rantaro, hi Tsumugi..." Shuichi said tiredly "Where are the others? I didn't see them here when I woke up."
"Miu and Kaede went shopping, Kaito and Maki went sightseeing and Tsumugi and I were actually going to see if we can get into some merch shop Tsumugi DESPERATELY wanted to go to." Amami smiled. "I told you, they had a very fancy anime figure on sale advertised on the webpage." Tsumugi pouted. Shuichi laughed "Well I guess I'll go around the town for a walk, seeing as I don't really have anything to do." Shuichi said before walking out the hotel. Once Shuichi left Amami and Tsumugi looked each other in the eyes with a smile.
"We won't tell him that everyone is actually in the back, checking out the pool and we made that entire thing up just to get him to go to the town to find Ouma, which we saw today's morning, right?"
"Nope."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shuichi walked down the streets of the town. Before he knew it, he noticed that Ouma was sitting on one of the benches, just by the entrance of the beach. He was reading manga with a bored look on his face. When he spotted Saihara, Ouma smiled and waved.
"Hi Saihara-chan~!" he said in a cheery voice before closing his manga. Saihara laughed before coming over to Ouma "Hi Ouma, what are you reading?" he asked curiously. "It's just Yu-Gi-Oh. I read this book like thousands of times already but sadly the shipping for buying new volumes online costs a LOT. So I rarely get to buy new volumes." he said slightly annoyed "Hey would you like to visit the local cafe with me. Just to talk together about...y'know...things friends talk about?" Ouma asked. "S-Sure." Saihara said making Ouma giggle "Relax Saihara, it's not like it's a date...that is...unless you want it to be~ " Ouma said in a flirtatious voice. "Please don't joke like that..." Saihara said covering his face with his hat. "Okay, but first..." Ouma swiftly removed the head from Saihara's head and putting it on his head "Let's get that thing away. I wanna keep looking at that lovely face of yours!" he said making Saihara blush harder.
"Anyways let's go to the cafe already!"
Soon Ouma and Shuichi arrived at a small cafe. It was a small brick wall cafe with a beautiful old style decor. It was called Usami's Café. Both Ouma and Shuichi sat down on one of the tables in front of the restaurant. Ouma smiled before starting "So, Saihara-chan, are you so far enjoying the stay on this island? Rantaro told me you didn't want to come here." He said, his voice tinted with curiosity.
"It's not like I'd hate being on this island... I just thought it might be like all the other trips our school had. My friends dragging me somewhere where l feel anxious or just suddenly ignoring me. It's been that way since everyone got a partner. I'm just alone." Shuichi rubbing the back of his neck. Before Ouma even had the chance to respond, a lady with two white twintails. "Hello! Welcome to Usami's Café! Here are your menus and I'll check on you in a minute, okay?" She said in a cheerful manner before walking away. "Um, well regarding our previous conversation, It's safe to say that you don't like being around a large number of people" Ouma said "Well I might not be enjoying time with my classmates, but I'm certainly enjoying spending time with you" Saihara said to which the purple teen laughed "Wow! You must really not like your friends if being with a stranger makes you feel more comfortable.".
"Well in a sense, we're already friends, right?"
Ouma grinned "If you say so Saihara-chan, but if we're friends, surely we need to know more about each other than our liking of books." Ouma said, "So maybe we should list some facts about each other!" Saihara thought for a moment but before he got the chance to respond, Ouma interrupted "Buuuuuut I want to make this more interesting... so how about we play two truths and a lie?" Ouma said smiling mischievously. Shuichi nodded, making Ouma clap his hands "Great! So I'll start...hmm" Ouma thought for a moment before listing some facts.
"Okay, so I like pranking people, I love violent horror films and I love Panta more than anything else!" He stated, "So now, which one of these statements is true, Saihara-chan?" Ouma said in a mischievous voice. Shuichi thought for a moment before answering "I don't think that you like violence, you don't look like the type to be a fan of bloodshed..." Ouma's smile lowered "Aww I'm disappointed... I really thought a detective like Saihara-chan could find the lie..." "I guessed wrong?" Shuichi said surprised, after all, he was sure his deduction was correct. However, he was interrupted by a sudden laugh from Ouma "Oh man! You actually fell for that lie!" Ouma laughed, which completely puzzled Shuichi "Lie...?"
"Yup! You guessed it the first time but believed me when I said you got it wrong. You can't believe everything life tells us! You still got ways to go if you wanna become a detective." Ouma said jokingly "Anyways now it's your turn."
Shuichi thought for a moment before finally finding a couple of facts. But Ouma tricked him previously. Should he try a trick him? Shuichi finally decided that he'd say two lies and only one truth. "Ok, so I have a baby sister named Satoko, except detective books I'm also a fan of comic books and my favorite pets are cats." After Saihara was done Ouma pouted "I see that my beloved doesn't like playing by the rules of the game." He said with childish annoyance. "Huh...?" Shuichi said to which Ouma laughed lightly "The only true thing you said is that you like cats. I looked at your expression and I knew exactly what you were thinking."
Shuichi blushed. Ouma was quite good at this. Ouma smiled "But from the one truth you DID tell me, I can say that I consider myself a cat lover as well." Ouma said. Suddenly the same lady from before came over "So sorry for the delay, as you can see we are quite busy... anyway, what can I get for the lovely couple?" She asked politely. Both Shuichi and Ouma blushed "O-Oh we're not together..." Ouma said quickly, which, for an unknown reason, saddened Shuichi. "Whoops! Well, what would you two like to order?" The girl said picking up the menus and fumbling with her white twintails.
"I'd like some grape Panta please?" He said as the girl quickly noted everything on her notepad. She then turned to Saihara "And you?" "I'd like a blueberry milkshake." Saihara said. The girl swiftly noted everything before heading inside the café. Saihara and Ouma started to talk about trivial things. Card games, books rants about school, friends and family, even the dumb topic of love was mentioned. It was fun talking to Ouma. It was ridiculous how fast Shuichi actually warmed up to Ouma, the guy was just too hard to ignore. He was good at listening and although the lies he occasionally mixed into conversations might've been a bit annoying, it didn't matter to Shuichi. Soon the girl arrived with two trays of the order. One with the milkshake which turned out to be quite big and one with a refreshing mug of Panta.
"Your orde-WAH!" The girl lost balance as a black-haired boy put his foot out to make her trip. She fell to the ground with a thud, managing to keep the milkshake in perfect condition, but spilling the Panta all over the floor. "Hah, Be more careful sis' one clumsy mistake like that and you'll get fired for sure." the boy laughed loudly before the girl finally collected herself and stood up. "I-I'm so sorry!" she said flustered before placing the milkshake on the table "The milkshake is fine but the Panta seemed to have spilled entirely, and I don't think we have any more grape Panta. Could I perhaps get you s-something else?" she said turning to Ouma.
"Nah, it's either Panta or nothing. So I guess I'll just get nothing." Ouma said to which the girl, still stressed about the whole ordeal, grab a mop and clean up the grape m******e she unintentionally caused. "Are you sure you don't want anything? I feel guilty having just someone stare at me drink, whatever this whip cream m******e of a shake while they have nothing. It doesn't feel fair." Shuichi said embarrassed. Ouma rolled his eyes "Is that really going to make you feel guilty" Shuichi nodded making Ouma sigh. He walked inside the cafe only to return with a purple straw and placing it in the milkshake "If you're so anxious about drinking this shake alone, we'll just share it." he said smiling. Shuichi blushed but nonetheless agreed. Isn't this a thing that cheap romance couples do? No, he shouldn't even think about that.
They both drank the drink together, getting an 'Aww' from some oblivious girl customer. Afterward, they both walked out and thought about what they could do next. After all, they didn't have a reason not to hang out and they did enjoy each other's company. They soon settled on watching some movie at the cinema. Ouma browsed through the movies until stopping at a horror movie. "Can we watch that one?" It was almost funny how much Ouma sounded like a child who was asking to buy some toy. Shuichi looked at the movie. It was titled 'My Friend is a Plastic Surgery Monster' (*cough cough* my favorite creepypasta *cough cough*) "Aren't you scared of horror films?" Saihara asked but Ouma just shook his head "No! The Supreme Leader of Evil like me is fearless!" he said trying to sound brave.
In a couple of minutes, they were already seated in the cinema with popcorn and some drinks. Once the movie started playing both of them watched in suspense. The movie turned out to be creepier than it looked on the short trailers displayed on screens between advertisements for popcorn and snacks. Suddenly Ouma squeaked and latched onto Shuichi's arm, scared. Saihara blushed but decided to calm his friend before anything else. "Hey, don't worry. It's just a movie." he said reassuringly. Ouma opened his eyes and nodded, however his grip on Shuichi's arm remained. "Huh, looks like the supreme leader of evil also has his fears. " Shuichi said teasingly making Ouma blush and puff out his cheek "You're such a meanie, Saihara-chan. " he said. Saihara chuckled.
"Yeah, whatever you say~"

After the movie, Ouma and Shuichi walked out slightly creeped out. "I know that I won't be doing any doctor appointments any time soon..." Ouma said jokingly. Shuichi laughed before staring off at the distant beach. Something caught his attention. "Hey, what's that light over there?" he asked. Ouma looked over "The tropics bar is throwing a bonfire party." he turned to Saihara "Wanna go? Of course, if you want to do something else, I'm up for that too." Ouma said. "I guess we can go..." Saihara said shyly "Are you sure? I really don't want to force you to go there if you don't want to..." Ouma said but Saihara just nodded. Ouma grinned "Well let's go then!" Ouma said grabbing Shuichi by the hand and dragging him over to the beach. They were now close to the bonfire. A couple of people were dancing to the music, some were drinking, some were swimming and some just sat and observed the fire. Ouma was one of the people who decided that drinking was the course of action. He went up to the cooler and after a bit of digging through the cooler, grabbed two bottles of booze without asking.
"I got us drinks!" he said handing the booze to Saihara and sitting down "I don't think you wanna dance, and I know that if you see me dance, my body is 75% alcohol cause there is absolutely no circumstance in which I dance. " he said with a giggle making Saihara laugh. "Well, I never drank alcohol before. " Saihara said shyly. "It's okay if you don't wanna drink it, I didn't drink liquor until, like, last month. " Ouma said opening the bottle of whiskey and drinking a gulp of it. Saihara hesitantly looked at the bottle before downing a bit of the burning liquid. "There you go! So how does it taste?" Ouma asked making Shuichi wonder. "It tastes of..." Ouma looked at Saihara as Shuichi realized what Ouma did.
"Oh my god, you totally mixed this with Panta when I wasn't looking didn't you?" Shuichi face palmed himself, making Ouma fall to the ground laughing "Yup! Why did you think it took me that long to find the bottle?!" Ouma said laughing before calming himself down "It's still drinkable though." Ouma said sipping more of his drink. Eventually, both Saihara and Ouma started to drink and one bottle of liquor turned into two. It was then that the two decided to walk off far off to the edge of the beach and sit down close to the water. They just preferred the sound of ocean waves instead of sounds of screaming from teens by the bonfire.
Ouma had dipped his feet dipped in water with each small wave that came. "He smiled while staring at the horizon. The orange sky looked beautiful "It's funny, right?" Ouma said, not turning to Saihara. "What's funny?" Saihara asked confused, changing his attention to Ouma instead of the calm waves of the water. "Don't you find weird how fast we became friends? I don't know, it just brings this warm feeling to my chest every time I think of you. And I shouldn't think of you that way, since we met like, what two days ago?" Ouma said with a grin "Yeah, kind of ridiculous." Shuichi said making Ouma nod in agreement. "It might be because I don't really have many friends. But I don't believe that's it. There's something about you, that makes you special to me, more than anybody else..." Ouma whispered making Shuichi blush. They stared back at the horizon of the blue waters. Ouma then turned to face Shuichi again. His eyes were looking at him with some sort of hesitance. A pink blush was growing on his pale face.
"Hey...Saihara-chan..." he said quietly "Yeah?" Saihara asked completely surprised by Ouma's sudden change of mood. "I might be saying something that sounds like I'm too drunk to think clearly, but I think I have a crush on you. I know we knew each for those two days, but they've been the best days I had this spring. So...what I wanna say that...that I think I love you." Ouma said. Both Shuichi and Ouma stared at each other in silence. This confusing feeling that lingered in the air. Love? How could they fall in love in two days? Was it even possible? It looked like a situation that was taken out from a crappy story, not reality. Nonetheless, Shuichi felt himself inch closer to Ouma, staring into his pretty violet eyes. "I...I like you too, Ouma..." Shuichi said in almost a whisper. Saihara closed his eyes and found himself doing something he never thought he'd be doing.
Kissing Ouma.
Sparks of energy and the warm feeling in his chest were everywhere and all the shyness and anxiousness was erased. It just felt right. Ouma's smooth lips were the taste of whiskey, probably because of the ones they drank before. Ouma melted into the kiss fast, wrapping his arms around Shuichi's neck, as Shuichi wrapped his hands around Ouma's waist. Ouma became surprised when the introverted boy he met a day ago decided he wanted to add little more flair to this kiss, by sliding his tongue inside Ouma's mouth and pushing Ouma to the sand floor. Ouma didn't seem to mind though. After all, they were pretty drunk so even if there was some underlying problem they had with it, it was blurred by whiskey, enough for them to forget about it. Soon, however, they had to pull away to catch their breath. Saliva connected their tongues. Ouma brushed it off with his sleeve before smirking "Nishishi, that was very forward of you Mr. Detective~" Ouma said with a wide grin. Shuichi blushed and quickly got off Ouma. They were now both lying on the sand and staring at the sky.
"Y'know Saihara, I know you have to go and everything and that in a couple of days we won't see each other but, can we still stay in touch?" Ouma asked, looking at the sky. "But how would we do that?" Saihara making Ouma chuckle "Did my beloved Shuichi didn't hear of such thing as the I-N-T-E-R-N-E-T? And if you want to go old fashion, we can just send letters, the post office still exists." Ouma said making Shuichi laugh. "So like far away penpals, huh?" he asked, bringing Ouma closer to him "Or distant lovers?" Ouma whispered as he cuddled up to Saihara, still observing the pretty sky.
"Yeah, that'd be nice..."

The next few days were almost the same. Kaede and her friends barely saw Shuichi anymore. He basically was always busy with Ouma for the trip. His friends were happy for him, after all, he rarely ever spend this much time with real people. But soon, of course, it had to come to an end. Shuichi had to return and it was the last day of the trip.
Everybody stood at the bus stop on which the bus that was going to take them to the airport was supposed to arrive. Shuichi sighed. He didn't really want to leave. He wanted to spend some more time with Ouma. Just then he heard a familiar voice scream his name:
"Hey, Shuichi!"
It was Ouma. He walked over with his usual smile. "Oh! Hi Ouma!" Shuichi said surprised. "I just couldn't leave you without saying goodbye..." he said blushing before looking over at Shuichi's friends "Wanna talk privately?" he asked to which Shuichi nodded.
As Tsumugi talked to Amami she noticed Shuichi and Ouma sneakily going off to the small alley close by. She grinned to herself. 'They have a crush on each other, I just know it.' she thought as she started analyzing all possible ship names and fanart she'll ask Angie to make.
Meanwhile, Ouma quickly kissed Shuichi on the lips. "You don't know how much I wanted to do that since last night..." he said with a nervous giggle. Shuichi smiled "Me too...We're still gonna talk to each other through Skype n' stuff, right?" Ouma rolled his eyes "Duh, I wouldn't just leave you hanging...". Ouma hugged Shuichi "I'm gonna try and visit you if I can...I'll miss you." he said. Shuichi hugged back, before pulling away. "I have to go now, we'll talk later. Bye Ouma." Shuichi said before going back to his friends. As Shuichi was going on the bus he heard Tsumugi whisper
"Having fun with your little boyfriend~"
"Please shush, Tsumugi..."
The ride back home was full of his friends asking Shuichi questions about Ouma. It was annoying, but Shuichi didn't really care.

"Great, we couldn't get him out of his room because he was reading books. Now we can't get him out of his room because he keeps talking to Ouma on Skype."
"So yeah, nothing's changed"
