The Barrier.
Hell and Heaven always had a barrier. Angels loathed and feared demons. Demons despised and were disgusted by angels. It was absolutely natural. There was only one place angels and demons had access to and share.
Earth.
Both angels and demons had the ability to access Earth and stay with the mortals. Did that solve the intolerance for one another?
No,
No, it didn't.
Demons continued to hate angels. And one of the most important demon family was the Saihara dynasty. The Saihara dynasty was probably the most demonic, most powerful and most destructive of all demons.
When it came to angel families, there was also the Ouma family. One of the sweetest families in the angel community. They were known for their good deeds while the Saihara family, for their gruesome sins. But one day,
That changed.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Saihara walked around to one of his favorite places in the mortal realm.
A large flower field with only one tree in the center.
It always made him feel at peace to be there. Away from his parents, away from demons, just the calm wind, the smell of flowers and the sound of birds chirping. He loved to nap there since the field was always abandoned and he could relax without bothering anyone. He could also finally relax and spread his demon wings he had to hide away from mortals.
But today was different.
Shuichi quickly noticed a figure sitting by his tree. It would've been easy to simply scare a mortal away with just a flap of his red wings, but this wasn't just a normal boy.
He was an angel.
He had purple eyes and short purple hair with a flower crown. He had a fully white outfit, a chess board like scarf and a sweet smile. His white wings were spread lightly as he played with the daffodils, growing by the tree. It took Saihara a step for the boy to notice him. His shiny eyes lit up like a deer's in headlights and he stared at Shuichi intently. This might've been because Saihara's wings were already spread out and he wasn't wearing his hat, which covered the devil horns protruding from his head. Another step and the boy flinched and slowly stood up, dropping the flower he had in his hand. Third step and the boy started to back away. Next few steps, the boy is ready to fly away. Last step,
The boy trips and damages his left wing on a sharp rock, leaving a bleeding cut.
Saihara quickly walked up to the angel. Despite being a demon, Shuichi didn't hate angels. He never actually understood the reason the two couldn't be friends or at the very least, tolerate each other's existence. So in other words, he didn't want to see the boy get hurt.
The boy groaned in pain as he tried to get up. "O-Oh! I didn't m-mean to startle you! Are you okay?!" Saihara asked nervously and quickly lend his hand. The boy looked at him slightly scared but grabbed his hand anyway. "Thank you..." he whispered, his hair covering his eyes. Saihara blushed at the sight of the boy. He was... quite cute. His nervous look, the discreet blush on his cheeks. Everything was just...adorable, but now was not the time to think about that.
"A-Are you okay? Your wing... it's bleeding" Saihara said, pointing to the white wing which was quickly painting the white feathers with crimson blood. The angel looked at the wing before back at Saihara "U-Um, it hurts a lot but I think I'll be fine...why are you doing this?" the boy asked confused. "What?" Saihara asked to which the boy quickly responded. "Didn't all demons want angels dead and tortured? Why are you so concerned about me...?" he said quietly. "It might be true that most demons hate angels but then again it's not like anyone picks a side. I just want us to get along or at least tolerate each other." Saihara said smiling, trying to reassure the angel that he had no bad intentions. The boy smiled "Heh, I guess that's true. I wish angels and demons would get along too, but it seems as though that's impossible. What's your name by the way? Mine's Ouma." Suichi was quite nervous. If he told the boy his name, he was sure the boy would run away. Everyone was scared of him and his family. He was sure the boy would be too.
"S-Shuichi...Shuichi Saihara..." Shuichi said. Ouma's eyes widened with fear and he was about to fly away again, but as soon as he moved his wing, he let out a hiss of pain before almost collapsing. "Woah Woah! D-Don't move your wings so much, or you're gonna hurt yourself!" Saihara said supporting Ouma so that he wouldn't fall. "Y-Yeah okay..." Ouma said in pain. Shuichi looked worried. That cut looked serious, it didn't look like he could fly very well. "Stay here, I'm gonna grab some bandages from my house," Shuichi said before quickly flying away to get to his home in the mortal realm and leaving Ouma by the tree. When he arrived he immediately grabbed the bandages and other stuff needed to treat the wound and quickly flew back to Ouma. When he arrived Ouma was still there. Without thinking, Shuichi quickly began cleaning and bandaging Ouma's wound. Soon, it was all patched up.
"There!" Saihara said. Ouma looked at his wing. It looked better than before, however, it still couldn't move without hurting. "Thank you, once again...Shuichi-chan..." he said shyly. "You should probably go home and rest now, that won't heal so quickly. Do you live nearby?" Saihara asked to which Ouma shook his head. "N-No...my home is quite far...I just like to fly around in the sky and sometimes I forget how far I flew. Flying calms me down..." Ouma admitted, his smile slightly lowering. "I could fly you there, i-if you don't mind!!" Shuichi said. Why was he so nervous? Actually, he knew bloody well why he was nervous, he was next to a fricking angel.
Ouma looked at Shuichi distrustfully "Why should I trust you?" he said cautiously, eyeing the demon. "Because sooner or later mortals will find you and you won't get home without being noticed by them...?" Shuichi said unsurely. The angel eyed him once again before sighing. He muttered a small "Fine..." under his breath before nodding. Saihara picked Ouma bridal style, which frankly made things seem a bit embarrassing, and flew into the air. The angel blushed at the sudden lift but didn't say anything. He kept explaining where Shuichi needs to fly him in order for him to get home to which Shuichi obeyed. After about 20 minutes, they arrived at a small wooden house. Guess angels liked to live humble. Shuichi set Ouma on the ground. Ouma smiled "Thank you once again Shuichi! I thought demons could only be evil, vile and nasty." he said in a cheerful manner, but in some way, Shuichi felt as if being assigned the name 'evil' hurt his feelings a little. He hated when people categorized an entire demon race for being evil when there are bound to be exceptions in there. His eyes saddened a little, evidently showing as the angel's look became worried.
"Are you okay, Shuichi? You don't look very happy..." Ouma said but Shuichi quickly cut him off. "Why do you angels always follow demon stereotypes? Not all of us need to be evil..." he said, as the angel's eyes filled up with slight guilt. "But I guess asking for a little understanding is pointless. I'm gonna go now before I cause you any more trouble." Shuichi said sadly, flying off before the angel could say anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Next week, Shuichi was walking to the lonely tree once again. It was in his routine so it wasn't a surprise that he was going there. However what he didn't expect was Ouma sitting under the tree. His wing was all healed up and he looked like he was patiently waiting for someone or something. When he saw Shuichi, he stood up staring at him with eyes of what looked to be...determination?
"Hey..." he whispered. "Hey..." Shuichi said awkwardly "What are you doing here? And how is your wing healed?" he asked to which the angel simply responded. "I have different kinds of herbs at home, one of them has healing properties," he said before speaking again:
"I'm sorry."
"What?" Shuichi said but was cut off by the angel speaking "I'm sorry I labeled demons evil without even meeting one. It was rude of me to criticize demons right after one helped me and showed me kindness. I'm sorry." Ouma said with a sigh, regret in his voice. Shuichi stared at him for a moment before smiling lightly "It wasn't that bad anyway, heard worse insults. In any case, I forgive you" Shuichi said to which Ouma grinned. "Also I was wondering, wanna... hang out? I know it's technically not allowed according to safety rules to 'be around a demon' but you proved to me that angel rules weren't always true." he said. Saihara thought for a moment before once again smiling
"Sure, why not?"
----------------------------------------------------------------
Ouma and Shuichi walked through the forest, talking. Shuichi quickly learned about Ouma, his hobbies and his dream to explore the world beyond heaven. He learned that despite being open to everything and quite gently, angels chose not to speak of hell, its residents and the feud. They refused to speak to Ouma about it and avoided the topic and if Ouma insisted, he'd get shushed by his parents. Saihara could honestly relate to this, only his parents would talk in a more foul language and aggressive behavior. While walking Ouma spotted a small squirrel sitting by the path. He squeaked at the sight
"Aww! It's a squirrel!" Ouma said before kneeling down and having the creature come over. "I love animals, they're a lot smarter than humans." Shuichi also reached his hand out towards the squirrel squeaked and ran away. Saihara sighed. He was used to causing fear with wings spread out. Ouma looked at him worried. He suddenly began looking around on the ground before picking up a couple of acorns from under a nearby tree.
"Try using these! If it knows you have no bad intentions maybe it'll approach you!" Ouma said handing Shuichi a couple of acorns. Shuichi once again reached out his hand with a couple of acorns in it this time and the squirrel reluctantly peeked its head out. It cautiously approached Shuichi and took one nut before eating it. It then took another, clearly calming down. Saihara smiled.
"See? It likes you!" Ouma said happily, clapping his hands. "Jeez, I'm kind of hungry. Maybe we can hide our wings and drink something at the local bar" Shuichi said to which Ouma looked at him confused. "Like what? I've never been in the city before. Usually, for food, I just eat fruit from trees or go to heaven for food..." he said. "I don't know...I heard Panta is pretty good..." Shuichi quickly said the name of the first drink that came to his mind.
"Pan...ta...?"
"You've...never heard of Panta?"
"Umm...No...?"
...
...
...
"We're heading to the town, right away."
----------------------------------------------------------------
Shuichi and Ouma quickly found themselves by the vending machine, which contained both snacks and drinks. Panta, Pepsi, Lipton Ice Tea, and Monster energy drinks were all inside, along with small Dorito packs and some random lonely chip bag with a yellow triangle in a top hat. Shuichi took out a couple of gold coins out of his pocket. Considering his parents were greedy, they have gathered a large sum of cash, so he had plenty to spend. He gave a couple of coins to Ouma and spent the rest of the money for his drink. They ended up with a sweet grape Panta for Ouma and Monster Energy Drink Shuichi. Ouma quickly drank the Panta and since he still had some money, he bought another. And another...and another. But it soon turned out, giving Ouma Panta...
Was a bad idea.
"SHUICHI! HOW COME I NEVER TRIED THIS BEFORE?! THIS IS AMAZING! I FEEL AMAZING! NISHISHI!" Ouma was so energized, Saihara was wondering how he didn't explode yet. "Woah, calm down there, Ouma" Shuichi said but Ouma at this point was too shaky and full of energy. He began running before suddenly bursting into the air and flying, his body and mind obviously overtaken by sugar. "Ouma wait!" Shuichi yelled, quickly flying behind. Ouma kept flying. "WOOHOO! I LOVE THIS!" Ouma said flying around, not even looking where. He grabbed Shuichi by the hand and basically spun him in the air like you'd spin a partner while dancing.
"Wow, that sugar rush is really affecting you ...Maybe I shouldn't have let you drink so much" Shuichi said with a nervous chuckle. Ouma smiled "Nah, it's fine~" he said. Ouma and Shuichi continued flying and talking until sunrise. "I gotta go home now Shuichi, but I'll see you tomorrow by the tree? If you want that is..." Ouma said. Shuichi smiled.
"Sure."
----------------------------------------------------------------
Ouma and Shuichi kept hanging out. They'd always meet by the tree and then go somewhere to spend time with. Sometimes Ouma would take Shuichi for walks and just talk to him while listening to the birds chirping, and Shuichi would visit the town with Ouma and showing him things, he was surprised Ouma didn't know about, like movies or Laser Tag.
Soon enough, after two and a half weeks, both Shuichi and Ouma became good friends. Shuichi knew that it wasn't allowed for and angels and demons to be friends. But just seeing Ouma sweet and innocent face was enough to make Shuichi smile.
One day, Ouma suddenly asked. "Hey, wanna do a sleepover? I heard those were fun. " he said with a smile as they sat under the tree. "Are you s-sure? I've never had a sleepover... besides what if your parents find you gone? You know what they'll think of this!" Shuichi said with worry lacing his voice, but Ouma just smiled and placed his hand on Shuichi's. "They won't find out, promise," Ouma said in a calming voice. Shuichi smiled "Well if it makes you happy... I guess we can have a sleepover." Ouma clapped his hand. "Yay! So at who's house should we have it? Mine or yours?" Ouma asked. "If you don't mind, maybe we can do it at mine?" Shuichi said fiddling his thumbs. Ouma nodded. "Kay. So tomorrow?" Ouma asked.
"Yeah, tomorrow."
----------------------------------------------------------------
Next day as expected, Ouma and Shuichi met up by the tree and then walked from there to Shuichi's house. Shuichi's house was definitely more high-class than Ouma's humble hut but it wasn't royalty. You'd consider it a normal city house that for some reason ended up hidden in the forest, isolated from mortals.
"W-Well, that's my house..." Shuichi said awkwardly to which Ouma just smiled. "Stop acting so shy. Let's just go in and hang out!" Ouma said, before walking in with Shuichi. They both walked to Shuichi's room and sat on the bed. The room was filled with tons of books which were either stacked into piles on the floor or neatly placed on bookshelves in an alphabetical order. There was also a small laptop placed on a dark oak desk as well as a game console in the other corner. In the middle of the room was a large fluffy bed, just big enough to fit two people. "So what'd you like to do first Shuichi?" Ouma smiled. Shuichi looked over at the lonely game console with two controllers next to it.
"Wanna play something on Xbox?"
"On what?"
"You're so oblivious to the world."
"I know"
----------------------------------------------------------------
Saihara and Ouma continued doing fun things to occupy their time. Playing video games, chess, drawing, and overall joking. Currently they were lying on the bed tired, but still grinning. "I'm getting kinda thirsty. Do you want a drink?" Shuichi asked turning to the angel friend next to him. "Yeah. Sure" Ouma said happily "I'm fine with anything so yeah". "Okay, I'll get us some herbal tea." Saihara said getting up from the bed and heading to the kitchen and leaving Ouma alone.
As Ouma lied on Saihara's bed, he thought a bit about the demon. All his life he heard that demons were ruthless, heartless beings who'd stop at nothing to kill. But... Shuichi helped him and he was a demon. And not just any kind of demon, a demon from a Saihara family. Yet, here he was, offering friendship, kindness and help towards an angel. Ouma sighed. Saihara might be a demon, but he has a pure heart. Just then, a certain thought entered his mind. Why was he always thinking about Saihara? Was it because he was worried they'd be found out and separated? But then again, why did the thought of that make him feel as if his heart was going to shatter into a billion pieces? They didn't even know each other that well. Still, the demon boy intrigued him.
Was it Shuichi's friendly personality that fascinated him? Or was it the general charm he carried with him everywhere he went? It was so confusing...But right now, he had to focus on spending time with his beloved Shuichi.
Just at that moment, Shuichi entered the room carrying a tray of tea. "I got us some herbal tea. Didn't know if you wanted some..." he said, handing Ouma one of the cups and placing the tray on his bedside table and sitting by me on his bed. "Thank you..." Ouma said blushing and staring at the green liquid in his cup. If he was anything like his parents right now, he'd think it was poison or something to drug him with. But he knew Saihara better. Saihara wouldn't do something like that. "You know...for a demon, you're really nice," Ouma said happily, taking a sip from his cup.
"Thanks, but if my father found you here, I would have no doubt he'd disown me, and by disown I mean kill. He already finds me weak and pathetic as it is, all he needs now is his son to commit treason too..." he said sadly. Ouma sighed "It's sad we have to hide our friendship. If angels and demons could only get along..." Ouma sighed "You are one of the best friends I ever had Shu-... Saihara-chan...and I've only known you for two and a half weeks. So if you don't mind... please continue being my friend, my beloved Saihara-chan." he said shyly with a blush. Shuichi was surprised to hear his name. Angels feared to say his name. Unless it was a threat or an insult, no angel referred to him as Saihara. Even Ouma didn't say it until now. So to hear his name being said in such a kind manner, it was a pleasant surprise.
It was silent. Both Saihara and Ouma just stared into each other's eyes, almost as if in a trance. Unknowingly, Ouma found himself leaning closer until they were so close to each other, their noses were almost touching. "Saihara-chan..." Ouma whispered quietly before finally leaning and
kissing Saihara on the lips.
The kiss didn't last long, but it was a kiss nonetheless. Both boys were blushing like crazy. Saihara was first to break the silence. "T-This isn't allowed..." he whispered, but Ouma shushed him by placing a finger on Shuichi's lips. "I don't care about the rules Saihara-chan... I just want to be with you..." he said before leaning in and kissing Shuichi again. After a second, Shuichi kissed back. The kiss began sweet but quickly evolved into messy, rough kisses. Ouma pushed Shuichi to the headboard of the bed, continuing to kiss to him. Where did all this lust come from? In any case, he loved seeing Shuichi so vulnerable like this. His cute little demon. Ouma pulled away and briefly looked into his olive eyes. "I love you Shuichi Saihara... I'm absolutely crazy about you, my beloved~..." Ouma said. "I-l-love you too, Ouma" Shuichi responded without hesitation.
"Call me Kokichi..." Ouma said with a smirk before pulling away completely, and returning to his normal position. Shuichi nodded before finally saying "How will we make this work...?" Saihara said sadly, making Ouma think. "I don't know...But I know one thing." Ouma said grabbing Shuichi's hands in his. "I'm sure of us and I'm sure of my decision to be with you," he said with a smile. Shuichi grinned with a small blush on his cheeks. "M-Me too..." Shuichi said with a stutter, making Ouma giggle. Saihara was such a shy demon. So cute.
Now they just need a plan to be together forever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Can we just tell them?" Shuchi suggested, to which Ouma shook his head "I doubt it would work. They'll ban us from seeing each other. Or kill us for treason." he said. They have been discussing different things they could do to be together but got nothing so far. "Then what do we do? I don't see any other solution..." Shuichi said with a sigh. Ouma then pulled a small olive green spellbook. He flipped through its pages until finally stopping at one and showing it to Shuichi. "This is our last resort, but... I don't know if you'll agree to this." Ouma said as he saw Shuichi's eyes widen.
The Malsvangraphvangonged Spell - The Malsvangraphvangonged spell, is often used as a light punishment for supernatural beings. If one of the angels or demons (or other creatures) break the rules of their set worlds, one of the more rare punishments is to give up their supernatural abilities (Wings, immortality, things as such) and live their lives as mortals. Once the reborn as a mortal being dies, it doesn't go to hell or heaven. It disappears and ceases to exist.
"I pulled an all-nighter trying to find something that could help us...this is the only thing I found. If we give up our powers and hide among the mortals, our parents won't find us. This book was hidden in the depths of the forbidden books library, not even the elite angels can enter, they won't suspect we ever took it..." he said with a hopeful grin. "A-Are you really willing to give up everything just like that...for someone like me?" Saihara asked. Ouma nodded determinedly. Saihara looked at him for a moment before smiling.
"I want to be with you...so I'll give up everything just to be with you"
The next day, both Saihara and Ouma stood in the field they met each other in. Ouma wrote down the spell on a separate paper, just in case his father ever found the book missing. He held Shuichi's hands and was grinning. "S-So, we're really doing this, aren't we...?" Shuichi chuckled nervously. Ouma smiled and nodded. "Shall we begin?" he asked in a sweet manner making Shuichi nod in response. Ouma pulled out the paper. "We need to chant this together while holding hands." Ouma explained, grabbing Shuichi's hand and held it tightly. He felt Shuichi tense up. "Hey...don't worry...we won't get caught, I promise." he said comfortingly, which made Saihara smile. They began whispering the angelic spell word for word. When finished, the looked behind them. Two pairs of wings were lying on the ground. Angel feathery wings and demon wings. The angel things slowly turned into the white dandelion florets that disappeared with the wind. The devil wings turned to black oil which sunk into the ground. There was also a broken halo which turned into water and two devil horns which turned into a bunch of rocks.
"Is it...done?" Shuichi asked confused. Ouma looked around "I think so...we're mortals now..." he said almost in disbelief. They stood there a second just taking in the reality of what they did. Ouma suddenly smiled. "So we're finally free...We can finally be together! Hear that, Shuichi?! Together forever!" Ouma said in cheerful voice tackling Shuichi in a hug. Shuichi grinned "We really are, aren't we?" Shuichi said, hugging Ouma tightly.
Finally free.
Finally together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It has been a month since Ouma and Saihara gave up their supernatural powers and lived their normal lives together as mortals. Ouma and Shuichi were content. Living together and enjoying spending time together. Right now they have been playing chess, one of Ouma's and Saihara's favorite games when suddenly Ouma stopped. "H-Hey, something wrong?" Shuichi asked shyly but Ouma just giggled. "Nishishi! It's nothing~! I just remembered the day I confessed my love to you Saihara-chan!" Ouma said happily making Shuichi blush. "You mean the day you pushed me to a headboard that later made my back ache?" Saihara with a confused look. "I'll just ignore that last bit. But yeah, that day. The day that I finally kissed you." Ouma said looking into his partner's olive eyes. "Come to think of it you were the demon at that moment~" Shuichi said making Ouma blush. However, he quickly recovered from the blush and grinned. "I'm so glad I met you Saihara-chan," Ouma said with a sigh.
"I'm glad I met you too my angel..."
