His words startled us. Magnus and I exchanged a confused glance.
How could Lucian’s elder daughter have become Ironclaw’s Beta.
Augusta stepped closer, looking down at us.
“Don’t ask me. I don’t know why. But she truly was my Beta. Was, because she fled with her father Lucian just now. And you know why there were no guards when you came? Because she dismissed them. She wanted me dead. I treated her well. I don’t know why she tried to kill me.”
His eyes held curiosity, not sorrow, not anger, almost amusement.
“Selene, right?” His gaze fixed on me. “You should get a good rest, because tomorrow I have a game prepared for you. I am sure you will enjoy it.”
He left with a loud laugh, as if he had discovered something deeply amusing.
The next morning, they put armor on me.
