Episode Four: The Full Moon's Fury

1093 Words
The night after the attack on Silvercrest, the air was still thick with tension. Repairs were underway, and the academy's defenses were being reinforced, but Serena, Nathaniel, and Alex knew this was just the beginning. The Shadow Circle had been temporarily thwarted, but they were far from defeated. As the full moon rose, casting an eerie glow over the academy, an unsettling calm settled over the grounds. The trio gathered in a secluded area near the forest's edge, preparing for the inevitable retaliation. They knew the Shadow Circle wouldn’t take their defeat lightly and would come back stronger. Nathaniel, still bruised but unbowed, glanced at Serena and Alex. "We need to be ready for anything tonight. They won’t attack the same way twice." Alex nodded, his expression serious. "And we need to be prepared for more werewolves. The full moon will bring out their strongest forms." Serena swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest. She had seen Nathaniel transform before, but the memory of the rogue werewolf's brutal power was still fresh in her mind. "We stick together," she said, her voice steady despite her fear. "We fight as a team." As if on cue, a chilling howl echoed from the forest, followed by the sounds of heavy footsteps. The Shadow Circle was coming. Nathaniel's eyes flashed with determination. "Here we go." The first werewolf emerged from the trees, its eyes glowing with a malevolent light. It was larger and more ferocious than the rogues they had faced before, its muscles rippling under its thick fur. It let out a deafening roar, charging straight at them. Nathaniel was the first to react, his body already beginning to shift. His bones cracked and elongated, fur sprouting as he transformed into his wolf form. He launched himself at the attacking werewolf, their bodies colliding with a force that shook the ground. Alex, armed with a silver blade, moved swiftly, his strikes precise and deadly. He kept close to Serena, protecting her from any werewolves that might break through Nathaniel’s defense. Serena watched the fierce battle, her heart racing. She could see Nathaniel struggling against the overwhelming strength of the Shadow Circle's werewolves. She had to do something. Drawing on the energy she had felt during the previous battle, Serena focused her power, her hands glowing with a soft, white light. She aimed at one of the werewolves, releasing a burst of energy that sent it sprawling to the ground. The werewolf snarled, turning its furious gaze on her. Before it could attack, Nathaniel pounced, his powerful jaws clamping down on its neck. With a final, desperate growl, the werewolf fell, its body going limp. Another howl pierced the night, and more werewolves emerged from the shadows. Alex fought valiantly, his blade flashing in the moonlight as he struck down one attacker after another. But the numbers were against them. Serena felt a surge of frustration and fear. She had to find a way to tip the balance in their favor. She glanced around, her mind racing. Then she saw it – a faint glow emanating from a cluster of trees. It was the artifact, the source of the Shadow Circle's power. "Alex, we need to get to the artifact!" she shouted, pointing toward the glow. Alex nodded, understanding immediately. "Nathaniel, cover us!" Nathaniel, still locked in combat with a particularly fierce werewolf, growled in acknowledgment. He fought with renewed vigor, creating a path for Serena and Alex to reach the artifact. As they approached the glowing object, Serena felt the power emanating from it, a dark, pulsating energy that made her skin crawl. "We need to destroy it," she said, her voice trembling. Alex raised his blade, ready to strike, but a powerful force knocked him back before he could bring it down. Serena turned to see the leader of the Shadow Circle, his eyes blazing with fury. "You think you can defeat me?" he snarled, his voice dripping with venom. "This artifact is beyond your comprehension." Serena faced him, her hands glowing with her own power. "We can and we will." The leader lunged at her, but Serena was ready. She released a burst of energy, knocking him back. Alex was back on his feet, his blade ready. Together, they fought the leader, their movements synchronized and precise. The leader was strong, but he underestimated the bond between Serena and Alex. As they fought, Serena could feel their combined strength growing, their determination unyielding. With a final, powerful strike, Alex drove his blade into the artifact, shattering it into pieces. A deafening roar filled the air as the artifact's power was released in a blinding explosion of light. The werewolves howled in agony, their strength drained as the dark energy dissipated. Nathaniel, sensing the shift, redoubled his efforts. He fought with a ferocity born of desperation and determination, driving back the remaining werewolves. One by one, they fell, their bodies reverting to human form as the artifact's hold over them was broken. The leader of the Shadow Circle staggered, his power diminished. He glared at Serena and Alex, his eyes filled with rage and fear. "This isn't over," he spat. "You haven't seen the last of us." Before they could stop him, he vanished into the shadows, leaving them standing in the aftermath of the battle. Serena, Nathaniel, and Alex stood together, breathing heavily, their bodies bruised but victorious. The full moon cast its silvery light over the scene, a reminder of the fierce battle they had just fought. Headmaster Hawthorne arrived, his eyes widening as he took in the sight. "You did it," he said, his voice filled with awe and pride. "You broke their hold." Serena nodded, her heart swelling with a mixture of relief and exhaustion. "We did it together." Nathaniel, still in his wolf form, let out a triumphant howl, echoed by the other wolves who had fought alongside them. The sound carried through the night, a declaration of their victory and a warning to their enemies. As they made their way back to the academy, Serena felt a sense of peace settle over her. They had faced the darkness and emerged stronger, their bond unbreakable. But she knew this was just the beginning. The Shadow Circle would return, and there would be more battles to fight. But with Nathaniel and Alex by her side, she was ready for whatever came next. Together, they would protect Silvercrest and uncover the secrets that lay hidden in the shadows. The future was uncertain, but their determination was unwavering. **To be continued...**
