Back to the Present—Biltmore Estate
As they sifted through aged papers, Lauryn gasped as she pulled out an old photograph. "Look at this! It must be from the early days of the estate." Alexander leaned in. "I wonder who she is."
Angela peered at it closely. "Could this be Natalia Vanderbilt?" Lauryn studied it. "It's possible. The photo's faded, so we can't be sure. But it could be her. What do you think, Alexander?"
He nodded. "It's definitely a lead. I'll send it to a photo restoration lab—maybe we'll confirm if it's Lady Natalia." Both Lyanna and Angela nodded in agreement.
Just then, Alexander glanced at the time. "Why don't we call it a day?" he suggested. "Sounds good to me," Angela said cheerfully. "I agree," Lyanna added. "A productive plan."
"And please keep in mind," Alexander reminded them, "there's a young adults' party at the winery tonight. Don't be late."
"I wouldn't miss it," Lyanna said confidently. "Of course. I'll be there," Angela echoed. "Excellent. I'll see you both there," Alexander said with a smile. "Yes," Lyanna and Angela chimed in together. The trio exited the chamber, making their way back up to the main level of the house.
Lauryn gets dressed in her apartment. She is preparing to attend an employee wine tasting party at the Biltmore Winery.
Lauryn steps into her closet, selecting a chic, burgundy wrap dress that flatters her figure perfectly. She pairs it with elegant black ankle boots, adding a touch of sophistication to her look. To complement her outfit, she chooses a delicate silver necklace and matching earrings that shimmer subtly.
Finally, she styles her hair in loose waves and opts for a soft makeup palette, enhancing her natural beauty. As she glances in the mirror, Lauryn feels confident and ready for the evening ahead.
Lauryn's phone suddenly rang, and she glanced at the screen, recognizing her dad's number. A mix of excitement and nerves filled her as she remembered their last conversation. She answered, "Hi, Dad! How's everything?"
"Everything's good, sweetheart. I just wanted to check in and see how your first day living in Biltmore is going," he replied, his voice warm and familiar. "It's been wonderful so far! The estate is even more breathtaking in person," she said, a smile spreading across her face. "I can't wait to explore more and maybe even find some hidden gems in the gardens."
Her dad smiled on his end of the phone and asked, "What’s your new boss like?" She paused for a moment, considering her words. "He's really supportive and has a great sense of humor," she replied. "I feel like I can approach him with any questions, which is nice." Her dad nodded, pleased to hear that she was settling in well. "That's important in a workplace, sweetheart. I'm glad to hear it!" She felt a sense of relief wash over her, knowing her dad was proud.
Lauryn then says with curiosity. "What do you and Mom have planned for tonight?" Her dad smiled, thinking for a moment on his end of the phone call. "We're going to try that new Italian restaurant downtown," he replied. "Sounds fun! Are you excited?" she asked, her eyes lighting up. "Absolutely! It's wonderful to have a little date night," he said with a grin on his end of the phone call.
Lauryn then asked her dad, "What about Wyatt? What does he have planned for tonight?" Her dad chuckled softly, "Well, he mentioned going to hang out with some friends." "That sounds cool! I hope he has a wonderful time," Lauryn replied, feeling happy for her brother.
"He usually does; he loves spending time with them," her dad said, clearly proud of Wyatt. "It's nice that everyone has something fun to do!" Lauryn added, smiling. "Yes, it is. Family time is important, but so is having your adventures," her dad replied.
Lauryn then asked her dad about her nineteen-year-old brother, Connor, and seventeen-year-old brother, Tyler, "What are Connor and Tyler doing tonight?"
"They're just hanging out with some friends, probably playing video games or watching a movie," her dad answered with a chuckle. Lauryn nodded, thinking about how each of them found joy in their own way yet always managed to come together as a family when it counted.
"That's great to hear," Lauryn said on her end of the phone call. "I'm glad they're keeping busy," she added, feeling a sense of warmth at the thought of their laughter filling the house. It reminded her of simpler times when they would all gather around for family game nights, sharing stories and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Her father then says from his end of the phone, "What are your plans tonight?" Lauryn smiled, thinking about the employee wine tasting at the Biltmore winery. "I'm heading to a wine tasting event; it should be a fun evening!"
As she spoke, she could already envision the vibrant atmosphere of the winery, the clinking of glasses, and the rich aromas wafting through the air. Her father's voice broke through her daydream, filled with encouragement: "Enjoy every moment; you deserve a little fun!"
Lauryn felt a rush of excitement at his words, knowing that her father always supported her choices. "Thanks, Dad! I can't wait to share all the details with you afterward," she replied, her smile widening as she imagined the delightful wines she would sample.
As Lauryn savored her father's encouragement, she glanced at the clock and realized the time. "Oh no, I have to get off the phone!" She quickly added, "I'll call you later to share everything!"
Her dad then says, "Okay, sweetie. You have a wonderful time. I love you." "I love you too, Dad!" she said, feeling a surge of excitement. With a final wave to the screen, Lauryn hung up and rushed to gather her things, eager to embark on what promised to be an unforgettable evening.
She left her apartment, heart racing, as she made her way to the Biltmore Winery. The anticipation of the night ahead filled her with joy.
The inside of the Biltmore Winery is a sensory delight that captivates every visitor. The rich aroma of aged wine and the warm ambiance of candlelight enveloped Lauryn as she stepped in. The tasting room features rustic wooden beams and elegant chandeliers, creating a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere. Guests mingle at beautifully arranged tables, savoring exquisite wines while soft melodies from a live band drift through the air.
The walls are adorned with vintage wine barrels and charming artwork, enhancing the winery's historical charm. Each corner invites exploration, promising unforgettable moments filled with laughter and conversation. The overall vibe is both inviting and celebratory, making it the perfect setting for a memorable evening.
Then Lauryn walks over to the featured wine list board. The board showcases the variety of wines available for tasting. The wine board features a selection of exquisite reds, including a bold Cabernet Sauvignon, known for its rich flavors of dark fruits and hints of oak. Next is a smooth Merlot, offering notes of plum and chocolate, making it a crowd favorite.
For white wine enthusiasts, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc delights with its zesty citrus and herbal undertones. A refreshing Chardonnay rounds out the list, celebrated for its buttery finish and subtle hints of vanilla. For those seeking something unique, a rosé presents vibrant berry flavors, perfect for warm evenings. Finally, a sparkling wine adds a festive touch, with its effervescence and fruity notes, ideal for toasting special moments.
The bartender approached her soon after she entered. "Good evening. What can I get you?" he asked with a serious tone. Lauryn glanced at the menu, then said, "May I have a glass of Chenin Blanc, please?"
He gave a curt nod and began pouring the wine, its crisp aroma wafting up as it filled the glass. While she waited, Lauryn took in the warm, inviting ambiance—the perfect backdrop for making new memories.
"Here you go, miss," the bartender said, handing her the glass. "Thank you," she replied with a smile. Taking a sip, she savored the fresh, fruity wine. After she was done with the drink, she decided to go look for Angela or Alexander.
As she turned to walk into the crowd, she accidentally bumped into someone. "Oh, I'm so sorry! Are you alright?" Lauryn asked, genuinely remorseful. "It's totally fine. These things happen. Hi, I'm Nayla O'Hara," the young woman replied, offering her hand with a friendly smile.
"Nice to meet you, Nayla. I'm Lauryn Asher," she said, shaking her hand in return. Nayla tilted her head thoughtfully. "Is this your first day working here?"
"Yes, it is!" Lauryn said proudly. "I just started in the restoration department. I'll be working alongside Alexander and Angela." "That's great—congratulations!" Nayla responded warmly.
"Thanks! How long have you been here?" Lyanna asked curiously. "I've been working at Biltmore for about three years now," Nayla replied with a smile. "That's wonderful," Lyanna said sincerely.
"Thank you," Nayla said, clearly appreciative. "Would you like to hang out for the rest of the evening?" Caught slightly off guard, Lyanna hesitated only for a moment before smiling. "Sure, I'd love to."
"Awesome! Come on, I'll introduce you to some of my friends," Nayla said cheerfully. Lyanna's heart slightly lifted at the gesture. "I'm in. Let's go!" Together, the two women made their way through the lively crowd.
Back in the past
George looked at his son with a serious expression. "Don't forget, we have a party coming up in a couple of days. Some very important families will be attending."
"I haven't forgotten," William replied solemnly. "William, there will be many eligible young women at the party," George continued with a sincere tone. "You never know—you might meet your future wife."
Edith gently interjected, "George, please consider using your time more wisely. Stop pestering our son. If something is meant to happen, it will. Now let's drop the subject—or you'll be sleeping alone tonight. Do you understand?"
"Alright, my love. I'll let it go for now," George said with a sigh. "Thank you," Edith said warmly. William, feeling slightly uncomfortable, spoke up. "May I be excused? I have a bit of a headache and would like to rest."
Edith looked at him with genuine concern. "Of course, dear. Go get some rest." "Yes, you may be excused, William," George added, his tone gentle.
William offered them a sincere look. "Thank you. Good night, Father. Good night, Mother. I love you both." "Good night, son," George replied with fatherly affection. "Sleep well, sweetheart," Edith said with motherly tenderness.
"Thank you, Father. Mother." William nodded respectfully before leaving the room and making his way to his chambers.
