chapter two:shadows of the past

205 Words
Lila didn’t remember running. One second she was staring into those haunting ember eyes, and the next, she was sprinting down the stairwell of her building, her heart pounding so loud it drowned out the world. The eclipse had passed. The sky had returned to its usual starlit calm. But inside her, everything had shifted. She slammed her apartment door shut, locked it, and pressed her back against the cold wood. Her hands trembled as she tried to make sense of what had just happened. That man—Cassian—he’d known her name. He’d said she was *the one*. "The eclipse marked you." What did that even mean? Lila grabbed her phone, almost dropping it. No missed calls. No messages. Except… a new text from an unknown number: *“You don’t know what you’re a part of. Be careful.”* Her blood ran cold. Who sent this? How did they know? Was Cassian watching her now? She stepped away from the door, drew her curtains shut, and sank onto the couch. Her breath came in shallow gasps. She had no powers. No secrets. She was just Lila. Ordinary. Unremarkable. So why did it feel like her entire world had just been rewritten?
