3: His gift

1011 Words
*Ines*  I am in my own suite sitting in front of my mirror and putting the last touches to my dark hair. I let out a small sigh. I know I am pretty, and I feel happy and blessed, so much weight is put on your looks, especially as a woman.. looks, breeding and behaviour.. as my father always says, for a man it is more money than looks though.  Honestly I am not sure it should mean this much, I mean yes, you can do the best with what you have, make sure you are clean and dress nicely, keep yourself healthy, but beside that.. you have no influence on the shape of your face, the size of your nose, the fullness of your lips.  By the time I am  almost ready to go for dinner there is a knock on the door, I go to open it. “Maceo, I am..”. I stop in my tracks, it’s not Maceo, but that little guy who was with Jackson when we arrived, the one who can get you anything you want. “LZ right ?”  He gives me a wide friendly smile. “Yes miss.. I am here to deliver a gift from the boss”.  “A gift ?” I look at the dress bag as he holds it out to me. It has a note attached to it and I pluck it off reading it in my head.   ‘Take off that ridiculous dress you are wearing, it does not do you justice, and put this on instead, a woman like you should shine.. I can’t wait to see you in it.. yours Jackson Levi’  What the ? How dare he ? I look down at myself, I am wearing my best dress, a white one with a puffy frilly skirt.. okay, so he is kinda right, I look like a teenager on prom night… but how does he even know ?  “Here you go, miss Ines”. LZ hands me the dress bag. “I promise you, the boss has a great taste”.  “I am sure he does”. I sigh and look at LZ. “Thanks. I will.. consider wearing it, you can tell him that”.  He gives me a slight bow, backing towards the door. “I will tell him that you will wear it”.  “Wait..”. But before I can say anything else he is gone. “I did not say that”.  I put the dress bag on the bed and unzip it. It contains a dark navy halterneck dress that has a red ribbon around the neck, to tie into a big bow on the back. Damn, it really is stunning, elegant and special.. Honestly, I am very happily surprised.  Sighing I pull off the childish white dress I am wearing and put on the new one. Part of me doesn't want to just give into his demands. I mean he is not the boss of me, and I hate being told what to do, especially by men, but the dress is just so damn beautiful.  I look at myself in the full body mirror, smoothing down the dress.. It really is stunning, there is no denying it and it makes me look so grown up and sophisticated.. LZ was right, the boss really does have great taste.  There is a weak knock on my door, this time it’s Maceo.. wearing one of his silly bold pattern shirts.. I guess they are in fashion, but they somehow manage to make him look like a movie pimp, especially with his black hair slicked back. “Hi Ines.. do we really have to do this.. is that a new dress ?”  “Yes we do, father agreed, he is a very powerful man and we want to know as much about him as possible.. and yes it’s a new dress”. I twirl in front of him. “Do you like it ?”  “It’s very.. fancy. I didn’t know you owned something like that”. He looks a bit skeptical. “It’s not like your other dresses”.  I shrug slightly. “Well I didn’t, before now, it’s a gift from Mr Levi, for me to wear tonight at dinner”.  “So he invites you to dine with him in the VIP room and he gives you expensive  and sexy dresses to wear, honestly Ines I do not like this. It seems to me what he really wants is to get you out of your dress”. He looks.. Well not happy.  “Well I think he is just a generous man.. he can afford to be from what I hear”. I feel my cheeks flush slightly. “He is just being nice to the neighbours, to avoid a feud. I mean the man hangs out with like… Hollywood starlets… and he knows I am engaged”.  I am not sure I believe it myself.. and also I do not much like this, the way he acts so cocksure, like he just assumes I want to do as he says.. but I definitely do not want Maceo to tell me.  He rolls his eyes and his tone turns condescending. “Oh you are so naive sometimes Ines, men like that go through women like they go through socks”.  “Do you want to come to dinner or not ? I can go alone if it is”. I huf at him.. It annoys me the most because I have a feeling that he might be right, but I am not going to tell him that.  “And leave you alone with that.. charlatan, no way. It would just end up Being you telling him all what he needs to know about your fathers business”. He brushes a hand over his shirt chest. “Let's get this over with”.
