“What were you thinking ?”
It takes me a moment to realize that Virginia is demanding her answer from LZ, and not from me. We are seated in my office, to which I had gone after being dragged from the grounds of the Vega palm.
“I tried to stop him”. LZ protests.
Virginia looks as angry as any of us have ever seen her. “You obviously did not try hard enough”.
“Do you have any idea how fast he can run ?” LZ tries to defend himself against his sister. “You wanted me to shoot him in the back to stop him ?”
“He would have deserved it”. Now she turns her attention to me. “Why would you make a fool of yourself like that ?”
I sigh. “That wasn’t exactly my plan, was it ? Her friend told me she did not seem happy, so I took a chance… apparently I was wrong”.
