The Night That Changed ME

Chapter-2 “The Past”

MANDY’S POV:

Here I go with the whole truth, “So I was 20 and you mom had turned 18 when this all started. I know the story is going to be unbelievable but darling you have to trust me. Our mother was a normal human but our father, was a werewolf. I turned out to be a normal human like mom but Lavi(Lily’s mom) turned out to be a werewolf like dad.” Lily cut me off, “You mean that MOM, MY MOM was a werewolf!”

I continued, “Yes. Lavi and dad used to go in the jungle with his friends and their kids every full moon. They used to take me along sometimes. I used to watch everyone transform and then showing off their powers, running races and it was so fun. In fact, your parents also met there. They were each other’s best friends and then their friendship turned into love with time.”

I took a deep breath and took a moment to read the expression on Lily’s face. It’s hard to read it but I think I should continue. “And suddenly 3-4 years passed by like that and the next thing I remember was them announcing their wedding and I was soo happy at that moment, seeing them together on the stage taking their vows.”

And there come the question I avoided my whole life, “Aunt why did you never got married.”

I have to answer that, “ Umm I have, not found the one yet.”

Lily, “Ok so what happened next?”

Thank God she didn’t went further with that topic, “Then after 2 more years we got you in our life. You were so little and cute. The cutest baby anyone had ever seen. When you were a few months old and you used to crawl around with your sweets and toys and give it to everyone.”

Lily giggles, “Aww I can imagine how cute it would be seeing a little kid doing that.”

Mandy you have to get to the sad part, the real truth, the you lied about all these years.

“Lily and then comes the sad part. You were 1 year and almost 4 months when…” there was a brief silence, “I was told to babysit you while your parents went to discover a new forest that full moon night and they were…” I cannot say it further. I am crying again, this time the tears are unstoppable. I feel Lily’s arms around me, comforting me.

Lily adds, “When that drunk driver hit then on the way. I know” I cut Lily off, “No it was not a drunk driver. It was a group of werewolf hunters, who used to go to that forest every full moon. They shooted your parents.”

Lily’s eyes were open wide with disbelief. Shock visible all over her face.

I have to control myself. At least in front of Lily. I cannot show her this weak aunt. It will break her further. I took Lily in my arms pat her back and the next moment she had her head in my lap looking at me. Trying to read me. Does my face shows how broken I am, how much i regret not being with them, not able to save them.

I have to come to the main topic. I need to finish this and get out of her sight before she reads all that out of me. “Lily since you are 18 now, we will discover within an year if you are a werewolf like you parents or a human like your grandma and me.” I shush Lilly as she was about to say something. I started patting her head trying make her sleep. Soon after she was asleep I got out of her room. And sat under running water in my bathroom. The water makes me feel comfortable, hides my tears from myself.
