Talk about bad timing

KARA’S POV

The movie was almost finished when we heard a growl from the front door. s**t, just once we thought maybe we could have a normal night without pack drama, but no. Jenna was clearly surprised, so I bolted to check it out and left Maria to explain. Good Luck. I got to the hall and noticed my Brother, Mark about to jump on kyle who had apparently just entered with his new mate. Yeah, I was upset but we knew the deal when we got together, and I would be ok when I found my own mate. I ran to Mark and tried to calm him down. “It’s ok Mark she’s his soulmate, I’m ok! Calm down there’s a human in the house please!” Just as I finished talking Jenna emerged from the theatre with Maria hot on her heels. She looked uncomfortable, I barely registered her leaving but when the door shut, I went back to calming my brother down. It didn’t take long when he heard that I was ok and not being cheated on. They shook hands and went on they’re way. Maria came up behind me “Do we call Jen now or explain tomorrow?” I huffed, “Call her now, no one shifted everyone’s fine” I just want 1 night to be a normal teenage girl with my friends. I know we’ve only known her a day, but Jenna feels like an old friend just like Maria.

She came back and we had dinner in my room, as the daughter of the beta mine was smaller than Maria’s, but we thought taking Jen up to the alpha floor may have been a mistake. I should explain, We’re, not a cult as Jenna deduced, we’re a pack, a pack of werewolves. Maria’s father is the Alpha, the head of the pack, her brother will take over from him, probably pretty soon now that he has found his mate. My dad is the beta, my brother Mark will take over when Kyle does, Which is why I needed to calm him down earlier. Couldn’t have our future beta in a fight with out future alpha. Kyle and I were very close everyone thought we were to be mates, so we have been dating a long time but in case we weren’t we kept things PG and now I’m glad. I kept my virginity for my mate. Most people think that werewolves shift for the first time on their 16th or 18th birthday but actually, it happens when your body is ready to handle it. I haven’t shifted yet and I’m 19 Maria Shifted a couple days after her 20th Birthday which was a couple months ago.

Dinner went well no questions and when we were done Maria took the pots downstairs while Jenna and I discussed what to do next. We were mid conversation when Alpha Kennedy mindlinked the whole pack “Good evening everyone, we hope you enjoyed your dinner. It has been bought to our attention that our son Kyle has found his mate! So, we will be holding the Alpha ceremony to pass the title to him a week tomorrow, celebrations will last over the weekend” When he cut the link Jenna was waving her hand in front of my face. “Ok, Maria did that earlier and now you. Is there something I should know? Are you a coven of witches?” I laughed at that, she wasn’t far off “No of course not, we have way more bite than a witch” I winked at her. Maria came back and we watched another movie then Jenna left for the night after we arranged a sleepover for Friday. 

When Friday came round, we went to pick Jenna up instead of her coming to us, we had supplies to collect for the night anyway. By the time we got to the pack house it was 8pm. We got our Pj’s on and took blankets down to the theatre room. We decided to have a lord of the ring’s marathon. About 20 minutes in to the second film I started to get a bit warm. I pushed the blankets off me and went for a glass of water, but within minutes of sitting back down it got worse, my skin felt like it was on fire, I mind linked Maria “M! I feel weird I think it’s happening” “What now? s**t what do we do? Is your skin feeling itchy yet? Like sunburn?” “YES! Oh my god M it hurts”

Maria jumped up and pulled me to my feet. “Jenna we can’t explain but we need your help. This is important and if you can’t do what we need when we need it you need to leave. I’m not trying to be b***h, but this is a life-or-death thing ok?” She jumped out of her seat and saluted us like we were in the army. She clearly doesn’t get the gravity of the situation just yet. “Jen grab those blankets and help me get Kara outside. There’s a clearing about 5 mins from the pack house, ok?” She just nodded and followed us with the blankets. We got just outside the front door before I cried out and dropped to the floor. Jen grabbed me instantly and helped haul me into the woods. When we got there, they laid me on the floor and Maria pulled Jen back. “Kara, listen to me, you need to breathe, ok? Don’t fight it and try to relax. If you do it will happen faster, and it won’t hurt as bad”

I nodded my head and glanced at Jenna, she was looking a bit pale. “Don’t worry Jen, I’ll be ok once it’s over” She just nodded her head with her eyes glued to me, until I let out another scream, Then Maria grabbed her by the shoulders “I need to get her brother his block is up I can’t get to him. Stay here, do not touch her she won’t mean it but when she changes, she could hurt you in the process, just stay a few steps away and talk to her ok?” Again, Jenna nod her head and Maria ran off towards the house.  I screamed creamed again and she took a small step forward “Kara, Breathe. You have both got a lot of explaining to do. I think I know what’s happening, I read a lot of book’s but I can’t bring myself to actually say it, I mean, it’s insane. It’s fiction. Werewolves aren’t real. Right?” She looked at me. “I’m sorry we didn’t tell you, if your smart enough to figure it out then I’m pretty sure you’re smart enough to understand why we couldn’t” She dropped to her knees a small distance from me “Oh my god, It’s true isn’t it?” O nodded “This isn’t a cult, is it? It’s a pack? Of werewolves?”

Again, I nodded and cried out. “Breathe Kara, it’s ok I understand. I have things I’ve kept from you guys as well maybe not for as good a reason but still Maria won’t be long so breathe and focus on my voice while I tell you about my sons” My head shot up and I looked at her as she scooted back to the log. “Sons? You have children? I knew you were older than us, but I didn’t know you were a mother. Argh!” she stood again when I cried out. “Yeah, I have 2 sons. My Eldest is 10 his name is Jamie and my youngest is 8 his name is Jackson. I’d love for you to meet them sometime if you want to?” I smiled at her “You probably have a few thousand questions right now huh?” She laughed a little “Yeah too many probably” “Ask away” She thought for a moment “Will you have full control when you shift?” I was unsure which surprised me more, her knowing it was called a shift or the question. I was expecting something a little more twilight based but she is older than us I guess “Yeah, I won’t hurt you, I’ll want to run, that’s why Maria went to get Mark, He will be able to command me to change back if needs be or protect me if we run into any rogues” Her eyes widened “Rogue wolves like enemy wolves?” “Yeah, my brother is the next beta of this pack sort of like the second in command or ..” She interrupted before could finish “The alphas right hand man?” Now my eyes widened “What? I read a lot and werewolf books are my favourite. So, I guess soulmates are a thing based on what Maria said at Starbucks?” “Yeah, Kyle found his and now they will take over the pack” She opened her mouth to respond but Mark and Maria came crashing through the bushes.

 Mark immediately looked at Jenna and she smiled weakly and waved “you know I’m going to have to inform Alpha Kennedy that a human has witnessed you shift Kara” I nodded “I didn’t plan this Mark it just happened “I won’t tell anyone I swear” He nodded his head at her quickly and came to my side stroking my back. “Not long now little sister” It happened very quickly after I calmed down, I shifted and after a minute of getting used to the sensation I yipped at Mark and he shifted too. Jenna stood smiling at us in awe, so I went over and rubbed my head on her shoulder, then licked her face She laughed and started rubbing my neck. “They want to go for a run Jenna, do you want to come?” Jenna looked at Maria puzzled she shifted and laid down at Jenna’s feet. She didn’t move at first so I went behind her and pushed her so she fell over Maria’s back. “Are you sure about this?” She asked. All 3 of us nodded our heads so she gripped on to Maria’s fur “ok, I can do this just like riding a horse right?” Mark let out a snort “shut up Mark, ok ready” and off we went. We kept it steady it was an amazing feeling, finally having access to my wolf was incredible. The scents and the view were something I had only imagined and I couldn’t explain it if I tried.

After a while we stopped at a small lake, and Jenna slid off Maria’s back. We all jumped into the water and Jenna watched and laughed at us. After a little bit of splashing, we came out and laid on the grass surrounding Jenna. “This feels so surreal. Thank you for letting me in on your secret. I promise you can trust me guys” Maria shifted back and was butt naked “Damn Maria, warning maybe?” “Well we can’t mind link you and they’re brother and sister so I drew the short straw I guess, We need to head back the Alpha wants to meet you” I could sense the fear coming off Jena, she was panicking but before anyone could reassure her she took a deep breathe. “Ok lets do this” She stood up and Maria told her she’d be riding back on Mark as he was the beta it would look better with the alpha waiting for us and off we went.
