Chapter 16This was quickly becoming the longest day of Elis’s life. After almost clearing the breakfast table, he walked off some of his meal, exploring the empty halls and vacant rooms. He settled in the library and tried to distract himself by deciphering more of Latham’s coded language, but his mind refused to focus on the words and dots on the page. He flipped through page after page before giving up and throwing his work onto the small table beside his chair. Latham had showed him any number of pleasures and new experiences, more than Elis had ever thought he’d allow himself to feel, yet now his mind was racing with thoughts of whatever Latham had planned for him tonight.
