Kai surfaced from unconsciousness and sent his gift outward. In an instant, he knew the number of people in the loft and their locations. The alarm was still set, and Nate continued to sleep on the cot by the door. Only one was up, and if the rest were awake, they remained horizontal. Opening his eyes, he blinked at the still dark space of his room. As he watched, light from the approaching sunrise inched through his open door to push back the shadows on the ceiling. In one fluid motion, he rolled off the mattress and onto his feet. He wasn’t one to stay in bed if he wasn’t sleeping, or with a woman, so he would start the coffee.
