3rd person pov
"I can't believe this," are the words echoing in her mind.
If possible, Divya would admit she's literally seeing red everywhere. Never before has she felt this humiliated and insulted.
As a lawyer, her profession demands attentiveness to every little detail. How could she not notice the lies of someone who had been circling around her for the past few days? How could she miss the signs?
Proud of her ability to read people's eyes and discern if they were bluffing, she never failed before. But why couldn't Sam, or better yet, Mr. Xandeir Knight?
Mr. Black, who owns the law firm where she works and her teacher, assigned her to work under Mr. Xandeir Knight's care. It agitated her to meet the devil so soon, who not only deceived her by bluffing his identity but also displayed a cocky attitude towards her.
She had done some research on him now. He was wealthy, but she didn't bother to find out how much. She wasn't in the mood to sift through pages and pages of information. He was a ladies' man too, but she didn't delve into the details, considering she was one of them now. Truth be told, she didn't read a single thing. She was just avoiding him and his shadows.
But things weren't going in her favor, especially with her recent job assignment.
He was a rich, arrogant brat and an egoistic businessman, who believed in owning everything. This was the only impression she had of him. She had the idea that he had asked her teacher to assign her to him.
Such a prick, she thought.
The scheme was true but with a little more sugar to it. Mr. Xandeir Knight wasn't the only one who wanted Divya to work with him. Mr. Black had the intention of pairing Xandeir and Divya. Why not? Xandeir was his old friend's son, and Mr. Black regarded him as a son too. He loved him and wanted Divya to be his future daughter-in-law. He had entertained these ideas previously, seeking ways to bring them closer, but fate intervened.
Today marked the first meeting of Divya and Mr. Xandeir Knight, the billionaire tycoon professionally. Divya was on time, waiting for the supervisor to join and assign her role. So far, she couldn't figure out the purpose of her presence. Her teacher wanted her to understand the ins and outs of the business to become a more proficient business lawyer.
Xandeir Knight was way ahead of her. He wasn't planning for her to go anywhere; she just had to sign, sealing both the papers and her fate—with him.
Ahead of schedule, he made sure all the papers were ready. After arranging everything, he smiled to himself and made his way to his cabin. Entering his room, he was mesmerized by the little angry bird.
Mine. That's all he could think looking at her.
"You faked it," her eyes burning with anger. "You don't play it safe, Mr. Xandeir Knight, or should I say, sir," Divya spoke, unable to hold back her words.
He looked at her.
She looked so sexy with this attitude and anger, he observed. Smirking at her words, Divya's anger surged.
He really thinks of me as a cartoon or entertainment, she mumbled to herself, fists clenched.
"I never play it safe, my love. Everything is fair in love and war. And for starters, you were mine from the beginning," he replied with a smirk.
Xandeir felt a sense of relief after expressing his genuine feelings to her. He had never faced a situation where he had to lie. After faking an identity for so long, he was happy to put an end to that chapter.
"Really. Then fine with me. I specialize in playing it safe. I will never be yours at any cost," she challenged him.
She was on the edge, recalling what happened the day before yesterday. Though she knew she could never forget, she didn't want to remember it now.
Not now, not now, she told her mind.
Thinking she was lost in thought, Xandeir called out loud, "Wanna bet?" Provoking her.
"Oh, try me. The reward will be the same as always... my anything and everything," she replied with a grin on her face.
Knowing nothing about the future that awaited her, she made a deal with the devil.
"And the same on my side."
'Which is already yours,' his conscience replied.
"Sign the assigned paper before moving further."
She snatched the papers and signed them in the heat of the moment.
That was the second mistake in the past two days, she made after the provoking scene; he thought and smirked.
He wasn't complaining, as her mistakes were the best gifts in his life. The gifts he would cherish and use to make her his.
Xandeir's happiness knew no bounds when he saw the paper with her signature.
If the situation weren't so tense, he would have pulled her into a not-so-soon-ending kiss. But, fortunately, this kiss would be delayed, though not for too long.
For now, he had to focus on making the stubborn girl submit.
Not to forget the other plans...
winks.
