Jasmine's POV
I ran inside the hospital as fast as I could. The first person I saw was Jay's mama.
I ran grabbing her into a hug. I felt her tears hit my shoulder. We stood there for a few minutes be we pulled away.
"Mama what happened?" I said through tears.
"I don’t know baby I was in my room and I guess Jay stepped outside when he left my room--then I heard the gun shots. I ran outside, and my baby was on the ground bleeding out. I saw a black SUV speeding away.” I froze.
"Did you say a black SUV?"
"Yes, baby why?" She said wiping her eyes.
"This is my fault mama. This is all my fault. I have to go. I can’t be here when he wakes up." I turned and ran out of the hospital and dropped down to my knees.
"Jas what's wrong, what happened?"
I took deep breaths tryna breathe evenly but I couldn't. I felt my chest tightening up.
"Jasmine!" I heard Tyler yell before everything went black.
Jay's POV
I opened my eyes to a bright white room. I tried to open my mouth, but I felt something down my throat.
I looked around the room and saw my mom sitting in a chair looking down crying.
I tried moving a little and she looked up at me and her eyes grew big. I was choking trying to get this tube out of my mouth.
"Oh my god Jay!" She got up and came over to hug me.
My throat felt constricted and I started coughing harshly.
"Let me call the nurse so they can take that tube out. Calm down Jay so you don’t choke."
She ran out of the room and came back with a man and a woman.
The woman removed the tube and she handed me a cup of water.
I drunk it in no time. Yall don’t understand a nigga throat felt like sandpaper.
"How are you feeling Jasean?" The man asked. I’m guessing he was the doctor.
I moved around a little to get comfortable then pain shot through my leg.
I winched.
"You might wanna take it easy your leg bone is still bruised from the impact of the bullet. Your stomach however healed rather quickly after we removed the bullet and sewed you up. You will be sore for a while though, so you shouldn’t be doing any strenuous activity." He stopped and looked at me. I nodded for him to keep going.
"Your body was in shock from your injuries that’s why you were out for a while but--"
"Wait how long have I been out? "
"Four days." My eyes widened.
"What about school I basically missed the first week. Today is Saturday if I missed four days."
"Don’t worry about that a friend of yours took your excuse to school and has been bringing your work to your mother."
I looked at my mom.
"What friend is he talking about? "
"The boy's name is Tyler I think his uncle teaches at the school." I looked at her confused.
"Mom why did he bring you my stuff and where's Jasmine?"
She looked down at her fingers.
"Well Jay you will be able to go home this afternoon after your paper work is done because you have no reason to stay here because your leg will eventually heal. I will be prescribing some pain medication for you and you will have to use crutches for a while maybe 3 weeks until your leg fully heals. If you don’t have any questions, we'll go get your paper work ready and you can check out."
I shook my head I needed to talk to my mother. Something was wrong I can feel it.
As soon as the doctor and nurse left, I turned back to my mother.
"Ma where's Jasmine and don’t lie because I know there's something wrong. "
She sighed.
"Jay--"
"Ma tell me now." I said looking at her getting angry. I want to know what’s wrong.
She took a deep breath and a tear slipped down her face. I sat up slowly there was really something wrong. My anger disappeared replacing it with worry.
"Jasmine had a panic attack when she came to the hospital the night you got shot. I was telling her what happened and that I saw the car that sped off and then she started saying it was her fault that you got shot then she ran out of the hospital. Tyler was here with her and chased after her. The next thing I know he's screaming her name and calling for help." Another tear slipped down her face.
"They said she had a panic attack and things didn't get better after they stabilized her. She wouldn't talk to anybody or eat all she did was sleep. I went to talk to her a couple of times and she listened but never spoke. She got worse the day I told her you hadn’t woken up and that you slipped into a coma. The doctor said he wanted to keep her under suicide watch because he had seen cases like hers before. She's still here too. The doctor said she's slipping into depression and it might not be good. She won’t even talk to Kayla and Tyler. I don’t know what I can do. Tyler being the sweet boy he is offered to tell the principal what happened, and he said he would bring yours and Jasmine's work here. I’m worried about Jasmine I've never seen her like this."
She was full blown crying now. I couldn't help the tears that fell from my eyes.
Why is Jasmine blaming herself?
"Ma I wanna go to her room." She nodded her head and she got the wheel chair from the corner of the room.
After getting settled in it we left and headed to Jasmine's room.
Ma opened the door and Tyler was sleeping on the couch and Jasmine was sleeping also but her skin was paling.
Ma pushed me inside and I pushed myself the rest of the way to her bed. Tyler woke up and looked at me. I nodded my head to him I would thank him later but right now I wanted to check on Jas.
Tyler stepped out of the room and so did ma.
I looked at Jas and grabbed her hand. I ran my finger over the promise ring I gave her fourth grade it was silver with a blue diamond because that was her favorite color.
"Jasmine." I said quietly. She stirred a little but didn't wake up.
"Mi esposa. I need you to wake up for me." I said. Don’t judge me I learned those two words just for her. Her gripped on my hand tightened and I saw tears start to fall.
"Jasmine wake up its me Jay."
Her eyes fluttered before they opened. She looked over at me and then our hands then back to me.
"Jay?"
"Yeah it’s me Jas."
She sat up and wrapped her arms around me tightly.
Damn this girl got a grip.
"Jas are you tryna suffocate me?"
She giggled a little.
She let me go then looked down at my wheelchair. Her eyes started to water again.
"No Jas don’t cry I'm not in it permanently. "
"But it’s my fault." She whined.
"No, it’s not we don't even know who did this. "
She looked down and started playing with her fingers...
"I do. " she whispered.
I looked at her waiting for her to continue.
"Raheem shot you." I paused.
"How do you know? "
"Your mom told me that she saw a black SUV pull off and I know Raheem has one and you did beat him up pretty bad." She said.
"He shouldn't have put his hands on you Jas, so it isn’t your fault he wanted to get back at me he'll get his one way or another. " she looked at me.
"What do you mean he'll get his you are not putting yourself back in danger."
"Chill Ian mean it like that Jas."
She just doesn't know I have people that will ruin Raheem it doesn't take me putting myself in danger.
She looked at me closely.
"Okay but if you get hurt again because you did the opposite of what I said then I'll kill you myself Jay." I laughed, but she had a serious face on which made me laugh even harder.
I felt a smack to the head.
"Ouch! s**t!" She looked at me.
"I’m serious Jasean." I gulped. Well damn that got me to stop laughing.
She never called me by my real name.
"I got you Jas." She smiled.
"I love you Jay." I paused.
"I love you too Jas."
I wonder if she noticed she didn’t say best friend like she usually does.
Tyler POV
I stood outside and listened to the Jay dude and Jas talk. When she told him, she loved him I knew I had no chance with her.
She may not know it yet but she's in love with him, and I don’t want to come in between that. He's in love with her also. Now I know why he got so irritated at the table.
They're in love with each other.
