In the evening Candice and Jasmina stayed in the girls dorm room downstairs. They had installed a TV in the common room over the holidays and all the girls had been taking full advantage of it. Ruby and Maxine were with them too and they had been hanging around a lot since school had started back up. Candice didn’t mind, but Jasmina worried she would catch on that they had something to do with what was going on with her. Jasmina tried as hard as she could to just act like the same old Jasmina, but that wasn’t easy. It was Friday, which meant that tomorrow Cam would be picking Jasmina up. Candice still didn’t know where she was going, and Jasmina knew she hated not knowing.
“This film’s boring.” Candice whined quietly.
“You’re boring.” Jasmina smirked, earning herself a kick in the shin from Candice. Luckily for her, Candice wasn't particularly strong so it didn't really hurt. She just chuckled to herself and carried on reading her book. Jasmina had to admit that Candice was right, the film was indeed boring as hell.
“Want to go shopping tomorrow?” Candice asked, looking at Jasmina with hopeful eyes. Jasmina kept her gaze on her phone while she spoke.
“I can't, I have plans tomorrow.” She mumbled.
“Ugh what plans?” Candice muttered, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest. Jasmina cringed internally at Candice's reaction.
“There’s just someone I need to see.” Jasmina shrugged, trying to stay as casual as possible. She thought about it for a minute or two then sighed quietly to herself, looking back down at her phone. Jasmina sent a text to Cam, trying to cancel tomorrow. He was quick to reply, saying it was fine but he wanted an explanation. Jasmina didn’t provide one though. Instead she turned off her phone, turning back to Candice. “I can go shopping after all.” She smiled. Candice turned, grinning from ear to ear. She hugged Jasmina tightly, giggling.
“Finally!” She declared. Jasmina just laughed, hugging her back. Ruby shot Jasmina a look but didn’t say anything. She could hear Ruby's phone going and knew it was probably Cam.
“I’m calling it a night.” Jasmina declared, standing up, before Ruby could catch her attention and demand an explanation on Cam's behalf.
“It’s like seven.” Candice frowned.
“And there’s nothing better to do than sleep.” She shrugged.
“Hm. Suppose so.” Candice sighed. “Goodnight.”
“Night.” Jasmina smiled, but she had a feeling she wasn't going to sleep well at all. She hadn't had a vision in a while and she felt as if she could feel something brewing in her.
In the morning Jasmina was pleasantly surprised when she woke up in the same place she went to sleep in, without one nightmare or vision. At first, she wasn’t completely convinced that she was awake, but after she had been up and about for half an hour, she figured she was okay. Jasmina had gotten ready to go before Candice had even bothered moving out of bed. Eventually Jasmina woke her up, and she got ready. Jasmina decided to wait just outside the main gate instead so she could get some fresh air. The temperature had been improving at last and Jasmina enjoyed the feel of the sun's warmth. She had worn one of her many dresses, with a pretty silver belt around her waist. She borrowed Candice's denim jacket, just in case the weather turned for the worse.
“Jas, wait.” Ruby called, just as Jasmina stepped out of the girls dorm. She caught up with her pretty quickly and they fell into step.
“Cam messaged me. Said his dad is sending him to pick you up.” She sighed.
“Well it’s a wasted journey ‘cause I’m not going. Not today. Candice is my best friend. I’m not cancelling on her again.”
“I know that. But Ewan is… Well lets just go with protective. As far as he is concerned you need to be in training still.” Ruby sighed. She looked apologetic, but Jasmina was still annoyed that it was her they were talking to about this, not Jasmina herself.
“Well it’s not going to happen. Sorry if it’s you that has to deal with the aftermath.” Jasmina shrugged. Ruby just nodded then headed back, while Jasmina carried on to the gate. Once she was outside she leant on the fence and waited. She saw Cam’s car coming up the street but Jasmina was determined to stay with Candice all day, no matter what he had to say. As far as Jasmina knew, the last few months she had left at this school would be the last time she would ever get to see her best friend again. There was no way she was going to waste that. Cam pulled up and jumped out the car smiling, despite Jasmina's obvious scowl on her face.
“I know what you're going to say.” He smirked, walking over to Jasmina, who glared in his direction. His smile didn't falter once and Jasmina had a suspicion that he already knew he had no chance of convincing her to go anywhere.
“Then you shouldn’t have even bothered driving here.” She shrugged. “I’m spending the day with Candice and that’s final.”
“Come on cut me some slack. You know I’m going to get the blame right?”
“Then you should have made Aiden come here so he could get the blame.”
“Never.” Cam frowned.
“Why not?” Jasmina smirked.
“I don’t trust him.”
“With me or in general?” Jasmina asked, raising an eyebrow. Cam just looked away and shrugged. Jasmina sighed, shaking her head. “Either way I’m not training today. I have been none stop training with you. What is left to teach me?”
“I think my dad is just planning on slowly introducing you to the coven. Trying to see if you’ll join up.”
“Why me? What about Ruby and Maxine.”
“They are already on board, you on the other hand, are a loose cannon.” He shrugged, grinning.
“Oh really?” Jasmina frowned; she wanted to argue but she could sense Candice was getting closer. “You need to go. Candice is coming and if she sees you I won’t hear the end of it.” She sighed. Cam laughed, but showed no sign of going anywhere. Instead, he waited for her to step around, then stepped closer to Jasmina, placing his hands on her waist, he leaned in.
“I’m already about to take a bullet for you, just so you can go shopping. We’ll call this returning the favour.” He smirked, kissing her cheek before he walked away and got back in his car. Jasmina stood there stunned, for a minute, until Candice pinched her that is.
“Who the hell was that and why do I not know his name?” She squeaked.
“I er… Well I… Damn.” Jasmina mumbled. She started walking in the direction of the mall, with Candice in trail, who was asking about a thousand questions per minute. Jasmina did her best to just ignore her, or fake ignorance, but it wasn't working. She had already thought of at least fifty different ways to kill Cam the next time she saw him. He knew exactly what Candice was like from the times he and Jasmina had spoken about her. Candice was like a dog with a bone; relentless.
"No way! You never date anyone! In the whole time I have known you! You haven't even called a boy fit! Now all of a sudden you have some mystery guy chasing after you? This is possibly the best day of my life! I need details, woman! How old is he? He drives so he's obviously not our age."
"Ugh. Just give me a break! It’s no big deal." Jasmina sighed, wishing the ground would just open up and swallow her whole already. She knew she wouldn't hear the end of this for at least the rest of the day. In fact she expected her whole weekend to be taken up by this.
"How did you even meet him? You can at least give me that much."
“Remember when Logan and I had that sub in History? That was his son.”
“Oh this is getting better and better.” She grinned. This was going to be one long day.
Sure enough the only thing Jasmina heard from Candice all day was questions about Cam. She vowed that the next time she saw him, she was definitely going to kill him. Or worse yet, she would set Candice on him. Either way he would pay. Candice dragged Jasmina in and out of every single lingerie shop she could find, exposing Jasmina to more underwear than she had ever seen in her entire life. Jasmina refused to spend so much as a penny in any of the shops Candice chose, but that didn't stop her relentless pestering. Once they got back to the school Jasmina took all their shopping up while Candice got them something to eat. Once Jasmina was done putting the things away, she decided to head back downstairs to meet Candice.
Before she even left the room, Jasmina felt a pain in her head and sat down frowning. She sent a text to Cam, simply saying ‘something’s wrong' and before she knew what was happening, she was falling backwards.
I landed on a bed inside a house I didn’t recognise I could hear yelling and screaming. I got off of the bed and ran downstairs, just as they came bursting through the door. They had guns which they used to shoot down a man as he came running out of the hallway opposite the stairs I was standing on. A blond girl stormed out of the room under the balcony of the upstairs. She tried to shoot something at them from her hands, but they were ready for her, and she went down too.
Then it was my turn. They looked me straight in the eye as they pointed their guns. I didn’t know what to do. I screamed loudly, trying to blow them up or something, just like I had done in one of the training sessions, but nothing was working. It was like I didn’t have powers at all. I heard the shot, but I never felt it…
Jasmina tried to sit up, but Cam had hold of her, trying to get her to wake. He was calling her name, asking if she could hear him.
“I… I can hear you.” Jasmina mumbled lightly pushing his arms away so she could sit up. He followed her movements, grabbing her shoulders so she would look at him. She kept her hands over her eyes to stop the light from hurting her so much.
“What happened?” He asked quietly, trying to stay calm, but Jasmina could tell he was anything but calm right now.
“I think… I think I had a vision. It was awful, People were shot then they turned to me and…” Jasmina was trying so hard to get her words out but couldn’t. Her breathing was laboured and she could feel her heart pounding in her chest, as if it was trying to break free from it's cage. Her head was hurting and it felt like she was losing her ability to hear. She moved her hands to her ears, squeezing tightly, trying to keep herself awake and aware, then she heard a crash. Jasmina jumped, moving closer to Cam, so there was no space between them. He wrapped his arms around her, but wasn’t really paying attention.
“Jas. The window.” He whispered. She looked up, and wished she hadn’t, The window was no longer there anymore.
“How…”
“You blew it up… Or out anyway.” Cam mused. “Get out quick and rush to Candice. Tell her someone broke the window in your room. Meet me at the main gate as soon as you can.”
“Okay.” Jasmina said quietly.
“Go, quick.” Cam said, opening the door.
“What about you? How did you even get here?”
“There’s a girl back home. She is able to teleport herself and others. I can just give her a call and I’m out of here.” He explained. Jasmina nodded, then rushed downstairs.
Jasmina was thankful when Candice brought her story. Especially when the rest of the school brought it too. Everyone was so busy dealing with the window, no one noticed Jasmina slip out, away from all the mayhem. She met Cam outside and he asked about what Jasmina saw. She gave as much detail as possible, making sure she didn’t leave anything out. He stayed with her for a little while to make sure she was okay, before he finally left. Jasmina was careful sneaking back in, and thankful when nobody seemed to notice. Unfortunately for them, there were no more rooms left for just two, which meant they would have to share. Jasmina was dreading that idea. It was bad enough that Candice had seen her nightmares, let alone a stranger.
Jasmina had just started to pack up her things when she overheard Ruby convincing some of the other girls to trade rooms. Jasmina prayed she was doing it for her benefit, but when she didn't hear anything more from Ruby for at least twenty minutes, she had to abandon that idea. She dragged her feet miserably and tried to think of ways to get herself out of this. She even considered trying to use her powers to force someone to change rooms with her so she and Candice could carry on having a room to themselves.
"Hey!" Ruby said cheerfully, walking into Jasmina's room. If Candice wasn't right behind her at the time Jasmina would have begged for help straight away.
"Hey." Candice said quietly. "I take it you heard about what happened?" She sighed.
"Yeah. I was here to ask if you would like to share a room with me and Maxine?" She said, looking directly at Jasmina.
"Sure." Jasmina nodded, trying to stay casual, but she knew the relief would be plastered all over her face. Ruby just winked
mischievously. She helped Jasmina and Candice move their things down the hall and by the evening they were all settled in. Jasmina and Candice had tried to separate their stuff as they got settled in, but they were so used to sharing everything now that they could barely remember what clothes belonged to which person.
Ruby did her best to help the girls relax after the day they were having by stealing as many snacks from the kitchen as she could so they could all have a girls night together. Jasmina knew her main aim was to distract Candice as much as she possibly could. Cam had obviously told her what happened so she could help out with any damage control. Jasmina could be more happy to have Ruby here right now. She had no idea what she would do if she had to handle the situation on her own.
That night all that invaded Jasmina's dreams was Cam. It was peaceful, especially compared to Jasmina's usual dreams. They just sat in the clearing watching the stars, all night. They didn’t talk. They barely even moved. They just laid there, her head on his shoulder. Jasmina thought how real it felt, and how weird that was, but she knew it couldn’t be real. For one thing, she could not keep still for that long and still be that comfortable, not even if you paid her. For another, she would have surely started aching if she actually laid like that for that amount of time.
In the morning Candice woke Jasmina up. The school’s headmaster wanted to interview them both this morning. Jasmina sighed quietly to herself. This wasn’t going to blow over as fast as she wanted it to.
