1035 Words
Kofi turned to leave with Selam but was intercepted by Daniel's father Mr Tekken. He stepped towards them with a broad smile on his face. "Ah, Kofi, I'm so glad you could make it! And I see you've met our Selam"Daniel's parents knew Selam. They only knew her as Sara's friend.Selam could not be angry at the old man for he was clueless. Kofi's grip on Selam's hand tightened, and he nodded. "Yes, we've met."Mr. Tekken's eyes shined with excitement as he mistook Selam for Kofi's date. "Splendid!more good news,"he said clapping Kofi's back.He went to the center where there was a microphone to make his speech. "The Tekken family and Kassa family invited you all to celebrate the festive season with us.The main reason is to publicly announce the marriage between the two families.Let's toast to the families' continued friendship and the upcoming union of our children." The room fell silent as Mr. Tekken raised his glass. "To Daniel and Sara, may their love continue to grow and strengthen our families' bond."The guests echoed the toast, and Selam felt like she was in a nightmare. She forced a smile trying to reprimand herself from acting out of anger. Her eyes met Kofi's when she finally got the courage to look up and she saw a flicker of amusement there. Mr. Tekken began a long, embarrassing speech about his family's friendship with the Kassa family. He was sharing stories about how they always knew the two would end up together.Selam's calm facade began to crack by the second. She reached for a nearby glass of wine and downed it, feeling the familiar burn of the liquid. Kofi leaned in, his voice low. "Maybe you should slow down?"Selam shook her head, feeling a reckless abandon wash over her. "I'm fine." Mr. Tekken called the couple forward for the engagement ceremony to start.Selam's grip on reality began to slip as the alcohol was taking effect. She turned to Kofi, a mischievous giggle escaping her lips. Without much thought, she leaned in and kissed him, her lips brushing against his. The room erupted into gasps and shocked murmurs.Almost everyone had been observing the pair and few gasps increased their audience.Kofi's arms wrapped around her, pulling her close as he deepened the kiss.Selam's heart raced, and for a moment, she forgot about Daniel, Sara, and the whole mess. The kiss made her sobber and the room began to spin as she realized she'd made a huge mistake. Kofi sensed her withdrawal and pulled back his eyes gleaming with clear amusement.Selam's face flushed and you could clearly see her blush as she was very light skinned. "I...I think I need to go,"she said still holding onto him. Kofi chuckled, his voice low. "I think that's a great idea."He gently took Selam's arm, guiding her towards the exit. "I'll make sure she gets home safely,"Kofi said bidding farewell to Mr Tekken who looked annoyed by the way Kofi and his date had taken the attention away from the engagement of his son.Kofi knew the old man was angry but he wouldn't show it because he needed Kofi as an ally. Daniel's face darkened, and he stepped forward, his voice laced with malice. "Kofi, I think you're misunderstanding no need to be rash.Selam's a...friend of mine. She looks drunk let me drop her off instead."Kofi's gaze narrowed, his eyes flashed with warning and he possessively placed his hand at the back of Selam. "I think I've understood, Daniel ,"he replied. Mr. Tekken intervened, his voice jovial but with an undercurrent of unease. "Ah, Kofi, don't be in a hurry to leave. The night is young, and we're just getting started."Kofi was unmoved, his hand on Selam firm but gentle. "I'm afraid we have an early start tomorrow, Mr. Tekken. It was...enlightening meeting you and congratulations on the merger." They turned to leave and Daniel spat out, "She's not worth it, Kofi. She's just a nobody from the wrong side of town." Selam's eyes widened and she pleaded with her eyes. She did not want her saviour to leave her with the wolves when she was a sheep but Kofi's expression didn't change. He simply smiled, his voice low and deadly. "I think I'll be the judge of that."The cool night air hit Selam like a slap, and she stumbled slightly as she was half drunk. Kofi's arm wrapped around her waist, steadying her. "Easy does it. I've got you." They reached his car and he helped her in.His eyes met hers for a moment when he was putting on her seat belt.Selam felt a jolt of electricity run through her,she could not deny she was very attracted to him and the night didn't seem so bad after all.She was with a hot guy even if it was just for that night. Daniel's voice was a distant shout as Kofi closed the door, shutting out the world.Kofi had noticed that Daniel had followed him hence why he had taken a moment while putting Selam's seatbelt."You'll regret this, Selam! You'll come crawling back to me!" Daniel shouted as Kofi started driving away.He made sure to pass by Daniel when leaving."I doubt that,"he calmly said. When they drove away, Selam felt a sense of freedom she'd never known before. She glanced at Kofi, his profile illuminated by the dashboard lights. Who was this mysterious stranger, and what did he want with her? What had just happened back there?Selam could not get these two questions out of her mind. Kofi had been watching her long before she had become friends with Sara.He had met her at a mall and had wanted her for himself from that day but unfortunately she had been with another. In his tribe ,one was to only take a virgin wife and he doubted she was one.Fortunately he had overhead Daniel's conversation with Sara .It was also when he found out she was been played. He had promised himself that he was going to protect her as his own.Kofi had been mind blown by their first kiss and he knew he was not going to let it be their last and he couldn't care any less about Daniel. He was going to show her what being loved by a real man means.
