7. I can't breathe

Lily Pov :

I got in my room and immediately took my heels off. I had no idea what happened after I left the club, I remember Lucas’ voice in my head telling me I was spiked.

Did he spike me?

But then why was he at the hospital?

I vaguely remembered a man approaching me and ….i don’t know. I decided that a hot shower would help me. Getting my head back in the game and looking for Max at the Palace. I panicked when I saw 8:00 flash on my clock. I needed to be at the Palace in an hour and I still had to make myself look a little bit more human who hasn’t been dragged through the hedge.

I found Max in the library reading some books when he suddenly looked up and spotted me.

“Lily you’re alive thank God I thought something happened to you?”

“Why would you think that?” I asked.

“Well, I went to look for you when I didn’t notice you at the bar and then some of my men found the barman with a broken neck in the back alley. Don’t worry we got rid of the evidence.”

“Worry? Why would I worry I didn’t kill him?” I explained.

“Then who did ?” Max crossed his arms in front of his chest sarcastically.

I shook my head and sat on a chair opposite to Max. I took my phone out and texted the one person who would explain the events of the previous night to me.

Message to Lucas

Are you here yet? We need to talk.

Message from Lucas

Yeah, come to room 189 I’m just sorting some paperwork

Without hesitation I excused myself and headed for the door. I looked for the room which was in the West Wing and headed straight inside. The anticipation was killing me I had to know what happened.

When I barged in the room, Lucas was sitting still in one of the chairs in the sitting area looking over some paperwork. When he noticed me, he jumped up and walked up to me.

“Lily? That was quick” he didn’t stop walking towards me as he said it.

I locked the door behind me and when I turned around he was right there.

“Lucas tell me what happened. Did you kill that man?” I asked bluntly. No regret, no fear, no sadness, nothing! His eyes did not tell me anything. “ Well?”

“Yes”

“Why?” I shouted.

“He spiked you Lily. He wanted to take advantage of you! He was sexually assaulting you and you were slipping in and out of consciousness!” his words stung like a hundred needles.

“He defeated me?” I didn’t know what else to say, that’s all there was on my mind.

“What? No, he tricked you! That’s why I took you to the hospital. Lily please you have to know that I couldn’t just take you to the hotel I needed to make sure you were okay” he approached me closer and I felt the cold wooden door on my back.

“Thank you” I answered softly.

“I would do it again Lily. I would kill anyone who harmed you.” His head came closer to mine and I could feel his breath on my neck.

“Why?” I asked. I only knew him a few days yet he was taking such care of me.

“Because I crave you Lily. I know I told you I would be gone in a couple of days but I’m leaving tonight and I cannot think about anything else but you. I need you Lily. You are the most important person in my life. I don’t know how you did it ,in a matter of days but I need you Lily” his hands rested on my body and as soon as his skin touched my fabric all of Mother’s lessons came running back.

Men will not defeat you.

You are strongest when alone.

You are a Daughter.

You will not love.

“Lucas let me go” I said in his ear. Yet I didn’t even believe the words myself.

“Tell me you don’t long for me. Tell me that you don’t feel safe when I’m around, tell me I don’t make you happy” his grip on my hips was getting tighter and I felt his torso against mine. In an instant I felt his lips on mine. The sweetest taste I could have ever imagined, his hands made their way up, one on my back and the other to my shoulder. My body responded to his, without realising I was pulling on his shirt, asking for more.

I opened my mouth allowing his tongue in. I had never kissed anyone before. I wasn’t allowed to, I was a Daughter a sworn assassin, I don’t have time for romance or love. Love? Is this what this was? I felt his hands grab my thighs and lift them on top of his hips. Suddenly I felt a warm feeling in my stomach, butterflies! I was feeling butterflies for this man. He moved his head back and I missed his lips on mine as soon as they left mine.

“Tell me Lilly, tell me you don’t have feelings for me”.

I couldn’t say anything.

I wasn’t a liar but I couldn’t tell him how I felt.

I didn’t even know what I felt.

“Tell me I don’t make you happy at least” there was a change in his voice.

“You do but Lucas I can’t..” the ringing of my phone interrupted our conversation.

I dropped my legs from around Lucas and walked to the other side of the room.

“Lily, where are you?” it was one of the High Elders servants.

“I’m coming now” I saw Lucas’ face drop when he heard the words.

I hung up and unlocked the door, he didn’t know who it was but he must have guessed it was Max.

“Lily please” he started.

“I can’t” with that I left and headed towards the High Elders office.

What was I thinking? I let him kiss me, a man kissed me. My defensive walls have dropped. I needed to get Reya and get out of here. Two more days and my sisters would be here for a meeting. Maybe the High Elder would tell me now and I could go home and forget this ever happened. But did I want to forget? Would I ever?
