5. Dinner Date

1673 Words
Lucas POV  Message to Lily Who is stalking who now? I heard her phone buzz and she her head immediately snapped up scanning the room. Look at me, please look at me. My thoughts were like a failed mind link. Finally, her eyes have settled, her green pools of mysterious life stopped and looked at me. However, she put her phone away and gave me a sinister look. She was taking her job seriously and didn't want to interrupt me.  Message to Lily Ignoring me now? After I paid for your breakfast tut tut tut. Message from Lily. You didn’t pay, I left money on the table. Message to Lily I used that as tip. I think you owe me dinner. I know a great place. What time do you get off work? Message from Lily I don’t get off work. Max is my work. I don’t owe you anything. She wasn’t playing hard to get, she was being genuine. But I still had a lot of tricks up my sleeve. I walked up to Max and nudged him on the shoulder. “I see that you’re preparing to run your pack Alpha. I know a lot of Alphas also go for physical training in their wolf forms to improve their stamina on the Palace Grounds” Max could tell I was also of Alpha blood and definitely more superior than his.  “I like that. I was meaning to take a break form my studies thank you.” I bowed my head and walked into the stacks of books and ears dropped on their conversation. “Thank you Lily but I don’t think you can join me for my next training. I will call you if I need you”. “Max I need to protect you” she protested. She knew she couldn’t go for a run with a wolf, she was a human, no match. “On the outside world maybe, but what harm could come to me on the Palace grounds?” He excused himself and left the library. Shortly after I could feel her presence behind me. Her angry face did not match her small stature. “What the hell are you playing at?” she pushed me but I barely moved. “I’m guessing you’re free then?” I smiled at her. “No, I need to train in my free time” she started to walk off but I couldn’t see the back of her head, not again. I grabbed her hand and pushed her against the stacks, the library was full of people, but they all had their nose stuck in a book. No one noticed us. I put both of my hands on either side of her  and moved my body against hers. “You hate being here, I know you do. We are both servants to the Elders and I know how much you hate wolves so why would you want to stay here?” I asked as I moved closer. “Because I need to train” she said softly not to get anyone’s attention. “No Lily, you need to get out more” I winked at her. “Come on let me take you out”. “Have you gone completely mad? Move before I slice you up” I felt a small metal blade against my torso. I moved back and let her leave. “Not even for Paella? You know I know all the right places”. I knew she couldn’t say no. Lily Pov: I knew that Lucas would either embarrass me or try even harder if I didn’t go with him. The Portuguese place which he picked was perfect and the food even better. I was worried what tomorrow would bring, Lucas was becoming more and more intrusive in my life. “Lets get one thing clear Lucas, I have known you two days and you think you can dictate me around. That’s not on I will not be ….” “Defeated?” “Interrupted! But yes defeated, I have trained my whole life to be proven worthy and no matter the amount of delicious waffles or Paella, it will not distract me from my mission. Men have no place in my life” “Unless defeated” he  interjected. “You wouldn’t dare”. “No I wouldn’t that’s why I want to be your friend and in 4 days’ time you can go home and never see me again how about that?” he was lying I knew deep down I would see him again. By any means necessary, there was something magnetic about him, something I couldn’t shake.   “Fine” 3 and a half days left.  “Let me take you somewhere”. “Where?” “My favourite place”. I mentally rolled my eyes at his attempt to humour me.  Lucas pulled up to a little cottage on the outskirts of New York. I held my blade close to me. Lucas was right it was less than 4 days until I had to leave New York, I would go back to South Carolina and forget about him. Or would I? No one in this world wanted my attention as much as he did. No one tried to make me happy like he did. He held his hand out as we approached the door. I didn’t  know what to expect, without thinking I grabbed it and I saw his face widen again. “I want to show you that I’m not such a weirdo as you think I am”. “I just think you’re intrusive I never said you were a weirdo”. Before I would say anything else a small girl opened the door and ran towards Lucas. “Lucas you’re here!” she shouted. “Hey Bella, how are you?” he hugged the little girl. “I was waiting, we all were.” I found out that Lucas would visit the children’s home every time he was in New York. His family would support a lot of charities including this one. We spent the evening surrounded by children dancing and playing. He was a real gentlemen as every time the girls would ask him for a dance he would agree. “Okay ladies I think I deserve to choose my next partner” all the girls turned their lips upside down until Bella pointed at me and they started giggling. “Bella you read my mind. Lily I think the girls want you to dance with me?” he held his hand out but I didn’t know how to react. “Come on Lily we all did it” I agreed and finally grabbed his hand. Just like in the street he held my right and put my left on his shoulder. However, his right hand ended up on my hip, exactly where my blade was, I didn’t want to scare the children and left it tucked under. As I started swaying to the music, Lucas moved me around the room. Not once did he take his eyes off me. He moved his head to the side and whispered into my ear. “Still think I’m intrusive. Or am I starting to become your friend?” “Just starting”. "What does your family do?" I tried so focus on his words rather than the burning feeling as his hand was radiating heat all over my body. Each breath he took his chest would rise and he seemed to engulf me.  "We are wealthy I'm not going to lie, but we always take care of the less fortunate. We can't lock ourselves away and enjoy the finer things in life, You need the bad in life to appreciate the good. These children have experienced so many atrocities they need the good in their lives". "And are you the "good"?" I questioned as he pulled me towards himself.  "I'm one of the best" he moved my arms up making me wrap them around his neck, as our foreheads touched I felt his breath on my face. "I'll be the best for you".  As the music started to speed up more and more children got up and started to dance around us. The room was filled with laughter and love. But whose love?  Did I even know what love was? The New York buildings passed me by a small tear ran down my cheeks. “I must say, you’re a fast learner” Lucas finally said. “Can you drop me off to the Palace please I need to check on Reya.” “Reya?” he asked. “My dog”. “I’m sorry if you felt awkward today. I love those kids and who knows where they could end up if the children’s home didn’t exist. They could end up on the streets or worse”. “Or worse” I repeated his words. I remembered when Mother found me, starved and sick. Frozen to the core. I was rescued, I was given a life, those children will also get a life, full of happiness and laughter. Reya ran down the stairs as soon as I called her down. Hyatt didn’t allow pets but I still brought her to the Palace. The Elders knew that we come with accessories, our dogs being one of them. Instead of coming to cuddle to me she ran straight Lucas. “Ohh hey” he looked surprised. “She likes … you?” I was stunned. He ruffled her fur and looked and me in full surprise. “Yeah I guess she does. So, 10 K tomorrow morning? Outside of the Hyatt?” “Don’t you have some advisor training to do?” “That can wait”. I looked down to cuddle Reya and I felt his lips on my cheek again.” See you tomorrow Lil” “It’s Lily !” I shouted after him.
