6. Eventful Night

Lucas POV

Fuck, f**k, f**k, f**k what was I going to do?

I was falling for a girl that I didn’t even know, I didn’t know her surname, her birthday, her favourite colour. She wasn’t my mate yet I felt the pull towards her. My mate was out there probably waiting for me like I was supposed to be waiting for her. There I was taking Lily out for breakfast, dinners, and days out.

I was a s**t soul mate, my mate didn’t deserve me, I was going to be an Alpha and I needed a Luna to run my pack I didn’t need a human.

But Lily was different to any other human I have ever met, she knew about wolves, about my life, she was fearless and so strong. She also had the only dog in the whole entire universe who didn’t bark when she met a wolf. Reya actually liked me.

You disgust me, Steelix chipped in.

Hey dude I’m sorry. I don’t know what to do.

Why don’t you ask that dog to help you!

No need to be rude.

She’ll be gone in three days tomorrow.

He was right, I only had limited time with Lily and I wanted my time in New York to be happy. I was going to make Lily fall in love with New York.

The next morning I waited outside the Hyatt in my running gear. I was pacing up and down the three small steps outside of reception. I didn’t even know if she would show up.

“At least you’re wearing clothes today?”

“Missing the view already?” I asked with a smile on my face.

Her small petite figure just showed how well built she was. I never saw her arms outside of the Palace she always kept them covered. Today she was wearing a long-sleeved Nike top.

After 10 kilometres Lily started to slow down before coming to a stop.  I was ready to do another 10 at my normal speed but I had to slow down  for her. I saw as the sweat dripped down her forehead down to her collar bone. Everything about this girl turned me on.

“How are you not even sweating?” she said half out of breath.

“Because I ran at your speed and I run a lot so my body is used to it” I explained.

You mean my body, i***t! Steelix  took every opportunity to remind me he was still part of me.

“Thank you for today’s run. I’ll see you at the Palace” she waved me off and headed off towards the Hyatt.

“Lily wait” I picked up a random flower and held it up before she turned around. “I know its not a Lily but I guess the gesture’s cute right?” I plucked the flower into her hair and she gave me a timid smile.

“I’ll see you later Lucas”

As soon as she left I needed her. I craved her like my lungs craved Oxygen. Who was this girl and what was she doing to me?

I was in my own study at the Palace, how could I make her love wolves? How could I make her understand that we're not all bad. I had to know why she hated us so much. I was a good one, my family were the good ones. Maybe she was referring to rogues, but if she knew about Alphas she must have known about rouges as well.

I grabbed a cushion from the sofa and screamed into it. I felt lost and helpless, how could I make this girl like me if she hates the one thing that made me who I was.

Message to Lily

“Paella tonight?”

Message from Lily

“Sorry Max wants to go out tonight to Oddity to meet some Alphas, barfff.”

Message to Lily

“I’ll see you there”

Oddity was a bar that I knew too well, Alphas would come here all time and drink would flow all night. I put on my most ironed shirt and tried to look at least a little bit more presentable.

I was upstairs when I smelled Max and his broad, they all came in dressed from top to bottom. I looked for her, I needed to see her, I spent the whole day without seeing her once in the Palace. I went to the balcony and the bar. I wished she was a wolf, I really did I would have smelled her a lot sooner, maybe she could even be my mate.

“Hey” I heard her voice behind me.

She was standing right behind me, her hair was curled loosely and a green silk dress fit her perfectly matching her eyes. She was showing off her tattoos in the only place she could in public.

“Hi” I said politely.

“I need to go back downstairs; I saw you worrying  up here so I thought I would say hi” .

I couldn’t put any of my thoughts into words, not any that I could say in public anyway. I tried to grab her arm but she moved too quick. What was supposed to do? I had three days left I couldn’t just grab her and run away with her. Or could I ?

As she walked down the stairs I saw how her body moved, how perfect it was. The things I could do to her, I would do to her. My trousers were getting tight and I knew I had to sit down.

For the next hour I was watching her at the bar, each attempt by any guy she would dismiss. Max was in the corner talking to a few Alphas and not once did she move. She was his bodyguard nothing less nothing more, she didn’t want to get involved in the politics.

My wolf hearing helped when Max called her over and introduced her to his friends. I saw one of them offer Lily a drink which she refused and went back to the bar. After a couple of minutes her expression changed and she started heading to the toilet. One of the barmen quickly followed and I knew it wasn’t good. She left her drink on the bar when she went over to meet Max's friends and the barman noticed that. 

I barged into the bathroom and heard a few women scream but I didn’t see Lily or him. Even Steelix started stirring in my head.

I ran out the back doors and saw the barman grabbing Lily. Range took over me and I ran towards them. I saw his dirty hand on her thigh and the other on her breast. I grabbed his shoulders and tossed him across the wall. He lost consciousness straight away. Lily, however, dropped to the floor and was coming in and out of it.

“Lily, Lily? Lily listen to me; I need you to focus on my voice okay. Lily hey?” her eyes snapped open and for the first time ever I didn’t see anger, I saw fear.

I heard the man grunting behind me trying to stand up, I don’t know what happened in the next few seconds but the sound of his neck snapping was enough to bring me back to reality. As I dropped his dead body onto the ground I heard Lily getting back on her feet.

“Lily can you stand? You were spiked, let me take you to the hospital. You need a drink or maybe some food?” I was starting to panic.

“Do you ever shut up? Just take me to the hotel” she looked up at me and passed out into my arms. I ordered an Uber and had a very awkward conversation with the driver who thought I was taking an innocent girl to a hospital. After a short and very odd story he finally bough it and thought she was my girlfriend who had one too many drinks and I promised she would not throw up.

“Mr Castor?” the doctor called me from the waiting room after waiting of hours.

“How is she?”

“Nothing to worry about, she is just coming to. We washed the toxins away and she is on the drip which should help. She will be good as gold in the morning, may I suggest you come back then?”

Who the hell is this doctor? I needed to see Lily.

“I need to see her doc and I  know visiting hours are over but it’s a quiet night please”.

“Okay”.

As I entered the room, I saw Lily lying on the bed slowly waking up. Her eyes were not confused and I wanted nothing more than to hug her. I need her to know that I would never harm her, she was safe in my arms.

“Hey Lily, can you hear me?” I said out loud.

I didn’t remember the last time I was in a hospital, wolves heal themselves and we have hospitals in packs so I really didn’t remember the last time I was even in a human one, if ever.

“I told you to take me to the hotel Lucas!”

“There was no way I was going to take you there. You needed help and you got it. You can scream as much as you want at me but you know I’m right. In a way this is a hotel, you have beds and a receptionist”. I joked about trying to lighten the mood.

“Take me to the hotel Lucas, please”.

“No”

“Yes”

“No!”

“Urghhh, you’re annoying”.

“I’m going to sit on this chair until they discharge you!”

And this is what I did. Lily kept falling asleep and waking up still pleading me to take her to the hotel but I knew she had to stay here.

“Good Morning Miss…” the morning nurse came in

“Matterson”

That was her surname, Matterson. The nurse explained what happened to her body and that some paperwork will need to be filled out but after a while she was free to go. I called us an Uber and I dropped her off to her hotel, she didn’t let me in but she informed me that she was going to see me at the Palace.

Only two days left.

My phone started ringing and I was surprised to see my brothers name flash on the screen.

“Hey Kilian, what’s up?”

“Hey Lucas, how’s New York?” his voice sounded concerned, too concerned .

“Yeah good thanks. I’m coming home soon after all the paperwork is signed”

“How are the Elders, are they acting weird?”

“Ummm no why?”

“Lucas you need to sign the paperwork today. I got an invitation to a leader meeting and they want everyone in New York. Leaders only. I need you to come back home and take care of Marble. I said Father can do it in my absence but you know what he is like, there is no chance I’m leaving Adam in charge.”

“You want me to leave today?”

“Please, You know how Seth is like he doesn’t like flying and it’s a long drive to New York, we will leave tonight or tomorrow morning depending on what needs doing here”

“Yeah that’s fine”

“Thanks bother”

“No problem”.
