Lily POV:
I decided to wake up early and go for a run in the morning. I put my hair up in a ponytail and decided to run 10 kilometres around Central Park. The events of previous night ran through my mind, every time I overtook someone it only fuelled me more. When my watch beeped 10 K I slowed down and found a small grassy patch where I could stretch. I saw a familiar figure running on the path in front of me. He was wearing shorts and was over 6 foot tall, his dark brown hair moved with every step and his topless body shined in the sunlight.
Oh, Moon Goddess it was him. It was Lucas. I didn’t know what to do if I turn around I would be on the path and he would run past me and notice me. If I stayed here he would notice me stretching and he was coming closer and closer. I decided on the former, maybe if I just take it easy he will think I’m a casual runner.
In an instant he ran past me and after a few meters he stopped.
“Hey stranger” he turned around with a massive grin on his face. I couldn’t help but smile. ”You wouldn’t be stalking me would you?” he crossed his arms across his bare chest and looked me up and down. He was sweating all over it but the fact that he was topless wasn’t helping the situation.
“I was actually finished and you ran into me so excuse me I need to eat breakfast before I have to meet Max” I started walking away when he ran in front of me again.
“Let me take you out for the best breakfast in town. I don’t want you to fuel up on cornflakes” who was this guy, it was as thought he knew me through and through. “Here give me your phone?” he gestured for my phone.
“Are you mad I’m not giving you my phoned number” I started to walk in the opposite direction.
“I would never do that; I’m going to tell you where to go here I’ll give you the name of it and you can meet me at 8”. I hesitantly gave him my phone and after a quick google search he gave it back to me as a saved location.
“I won't mind if you don’t come but I’ll be there because their breakfasts are to die for. Just don’t let me be the lonely weirdo eating on his own. Ohh I also put my number in your phone” he winked at me, ran off and I was standing there alone.
In the shower I heard my stomach growling I haven’t eaten anything last night or this morning. I had to feed my body. I poured myself a bowl of cornflakes and I looked at it for a few minutes. In an instant I grabbed my coat and started following google Maps.
Within minutes I was outside of a family run restaurant under the family of “Maggie’s”. When I walked inside I was greeted by an elderly woman who I informed that I was waiting for someone.
I scanned through my contacts and found his name Lucas with a little blue heart.
Message to Lucas
“I’m leaving in 30 seconds if you’re not here”
I heard the soft ping of the message and a soft cough behind me.
“So, you ended up giving me your phone number then” the massive grin appeared on his face again.
“I needed food and there isn’t anywhere in this city that has good food so please prove me wrong”. I hated everything about New York even the food.
I ordered some waffles and waited for my order to be delivered. As I scanned the room my eyes landed on Lucas who was already looking at me. His lips started to curl up in one corner and I was anticipating a snarky comment.
“What?” I asked quickly.
“You’re something else” he said without blinking. “I’m mesmeri...”he stopped as the waitress delivered our food.
I was thankful that she stopped him, I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t even know the guy and he had the audacity to say that to me. As I ate my waffle I realised it was the best breakfast I have ever had. I scoffed it down in minutes whilst Lucas just started his. I sat there and watched him eat.
“Why do you hate New York so much??” he asked.
I stayed silent.
“If you’re not going to talk I’ll have this conversation with myself. I personally love New York the food is great, the people are lovely and there is always something to do, nothing like the Pa…”
“Like the Palace?” I asked.
“Yeah the Palace, everyone needs entertainment in their lives. Even you” he winked at me again.
“I get enough entertainment thank you”.
“From killing wolves?”
It wasn’t confidence anymore; he was getting cocky. “It’s not just wolves” I warned him. “I get to kill all species” I winked back at him. “Thank you for breakfast but I need to get to the Palace” I got up and left some money on the table.
When I called a cab, he appeared next to me again. This guys really wasn’t getting it, I wanted to be away from him. I needed to focus back on my mission. I gave him a glaring look and ignored him.
“See I know the cab will drop you back to the Hyatt and you will take your car to the Palace because no cabber has any idea where the Palace is. So why don’t we get in my car. You know carbon emission and all that save the planet” he grinned again and waited for my response.
“Fine” I told the cab to go and followed Lucas to his car. I kept my blade next to me in case he tried anything.
No Defeat, Mother’s words ringed in my head. No Defeat.
“It’s a 30-minute drive to the Palace, why don’t we get to know one another?” he asked but I didn’t give him an answer. “I’ll start, I have one older brother, one younger brother and one younger sister what about you?”
“No biological sisters, but I have the Order Sisters”.
“Okay, favourite colour?” again I didn’t answer. “Favourite song? Sport? Season? Food?” he was getting impatient.
“Paella” I said softly.
The journey back to the Palace remained quiet. I walked in and met with Max who said he wanted to read some books about Alpha laws in the library. Like a good bodyguard I led him there and stayed with him until he found a book and sat down.
Lucas Pov:
“Matt are there any Alphas who don’t have Lunas?” I asked him on the phone.
“Not that I know of why?” he said intrigued.
“Nothing I was just thinking”
“Only Black Moon choose their Lunas but that’s because of the curse. The Alpha will have to choose a Mate he will not have a destined one”.
Matthew knew his Packs well; he was an advisor for a reason but that wasn't not the answer I was looking for.
“Okay thanks Matt I might see you later”.
After I hung up I could feel Steelix stirring inside of me.
What’s wrong with you?
You’re being an i***t.
How am I being an i***t?
You’re giving up hope on finding your mate when you’re only 20 so you’re starting to think about Lily.
I didn’t want to answer him, deep down I couldn’t stop thinking about her. How she laughed last night, how her soft touch calmed me down. I swore I heard Steelix purr at one point. Every time I saw her my heart would jump to my throat. I knew it was Lily in the park when I ran past her and her smell filled my nose. Steelix was angry at me for keeping him hidden, but I was willing to do that for her, I didn’t know why.
I went to the Library and I saw Max reading the book I read a couple of days ago. He was a joke, I had to be trained before I took the Oath and you have a dickhead like him taking Oaths without knowing anything about the way Packs are ran. I moved further along the Library and I saw her hair.
She let her hair fall down and was playing around with a blade. I really did feel like a stalker. I sat on a chair behind Max in direct eye line with Lily. She wasn’t a wolf so she didn’t know of my presence but Max moved his head to the side when I walked past him.
I tried to focus on the book in front of me but every time she moved, my head would snap up. I wanted to walk up to her and push the strand of loose hair behind her ear. Lily was wearing the same clothes that she wore for breakfast. After a few minutes she took her coat off and went back to playing around with her blade. I could tell she was bored with baby sitting Max.
I noticed the small tattoo on her wrist spread further. In fact, both of her arms were filled with tattoos all with Old Language. They weren’t numbers or letters they were symbols of strengths and attributes.
Who are you? My thoughts were running through my mind. If she wasn’t going to tell me I would find out for myself. I sneaked out of the reading area and went to find something, anything about the Order of the Daughters.
Countless hours later and I couldn’t find anything. It was as though she had made it up. There was only one person who would tell me. I found myself in the High Elders office, his servant looked worse for worse every day. She would either have old bruises or fresh new ones on her arms and face.
“Yes Alpha Lucas?” the High Elders spoke.
“Not Alpha yet” I joked. “I had a quick question. I want my Pack to be ready for anything including all the species in this world. Who are the Daughters?” I spoke.
“ Who?” he said surprised.
“The girl in the library, Alpha Max said she works for you but there’s more of them” I didn’t want to get Lily into trouble it was clear that she was proud of who she was but she told me in confidence. “I tried to look in the Library but I couldn’t find anything”.
“You will be one smart Alpha. You see the Daughters are the last resort, our last protection. They spend their lives practicing, fighting day in day out. They will not be defeated no matter what, they would rather die before they let that happen. No one knows about them yet but they will soon. Your own brother will meet them soon. You see Lucas, if you have the Daughters on your side, you are untouchable” he smirked. “Will that be all?” he asked.
“Yes thank you”.
I went back to the library and sat in the exact same seat. Max and Lily did not move, even I get a bit bored of reading and have to take breaks in between but it seemed that Max was grounded.
