Chapter 9: Just plain coincidence

They all screamed all excited and looked at each other and started laughing and saying ‘OMG’, ‘Gosh’, ‘Oh lord’, and other phrases that got all mixed up, screamed by all of them, and I couldn't understand all of them clearly.

I interrupted them “chill out, it was not a big deal, it didn’t turn well” they all shut at once and looked back at me agape and eyes wide open.

“He just said, ‘Hi Vanessa, again’ and I just cracked and ranted on him”

“Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?” I heard all four at unison.

“What? What do you want me to do? I got angry because of his smug face, his smirk and the mocking glare he was throwing at me”

“Lord you know ‘nada’, I swear, you know ‘nada de nada’, you are so naive” Sandy told me and then we all looked back at her.

“He is not mocking at you or laughing at you, I think he likes you, or at least he is interested in you, interested enough to ask for your name, you silly one” I was shocked by Sandy’s explanation and also mute for a second, Sandy is like our boy’s expert, she knows about boys.

“No way, you are wrong, I don’t think is that” I said.

“Well tell us the rest” Steph said “And then you think about it again” she finished.

“Well, I told him it was an accident and that it was not planned to bump into him again and that I was not a fortune teller to know where he was to avoid him” 

“Oooooouuuuuuuuchhhhhhhh” the crown replied at me with that.

“I know, I know, I got feisty when I got my defenses up, I thought about it after” I answered them.

“What did he say when you attacked him with those comments?” Lou said, and she was right, that sounded like an attack.

“He changed his smirk into a serious face and just told me ‘I see, understood, bye then’ and just disappeared as fast as he appeared in front of me”

“Wooooooow you just cut his vibe really coldly my friend” Sandy said “He was trying to flirt with you”

“No, he is not, Sandy stop with that” 

“Well and then” Sue asked

“I got back at the courtyard to the PE class, we were all there”

“Yes, but not all of us noticed him” Steph said, their look moves to Steph and then back at me.

“Well, it was you Steph who told me, tell them”

Steph took a breath to calm down and then said “we just got back from one of our exercises and I felt like if someone was watching me, it took me a while to figure out what was going on, I look in the courtyard and it was no one from our group, but I continue feeling observed, not sure why I look at the second B group windows that are in the second story of the building and then I saw Andy looking down at us, and by us I mean Vane” Steph explained smiling at that last part.

Amazed faces were all over the other three ladies.

“Then I told her, and she looked up and saw him watching down on her, after Vane saw him for some time actually, he looked away, so he was looking at her for quite some time, because it took me time to discover him and then Vane saw him, what do you think?” Steph finished.

We stood there with no comments for some minutes, I was kind of embarrassed or nervous, not sure what that feeling was.

“And you all saw what just happened, and that’s it” I finished.

“Well, if you count all those are seven interactions not four” Lou said with a smirk on her face.

I rolled my eyes at her and said “Potato potahto”

The ladies chuckled at that, and they were still silent.

“I definitely think there is something there Vane, and honestly if you like him, and I think you do even if you don’t admit it yet, you must act more intelligent, don’t push him away, because that could discourage him to go after you, but I repeat, if that is what you want” Sandy commented, and her words were definitely serious.

“Can we go now?” I asked, they were silent but nodded yes.

So, we started walking to get out of the school.

We finally got out of the school and while we were standing on the sidewalk we talked about homework and tomorrow classes, we said our goodbyes and each one of us took our own way home.

I was walking, alone, to my house, that is just five blocks away from school.

After 2 blocks, I felt a strange sensation, I just turned to my left side and look in the other sidewalk, getting out of a white house, at him, Andrew, standing in front of me, with a serious expression but looking at me.

Damn it, I have passed hundreds, no I correct not hundreds, thousands of times in front of this house and never have I ever seen him here before, geez.

Will this guy stop appearing in front of me? 

Shut up smarty pants!

I just turned my head back to the street, but I kept feeling his gaze over me, but I resisted, as much as I could, to turn back to look at him, thanks to God for the strength.

I like seeing him, maybe, a lot? Not sure, but I like how he looks at me, definitely yes, his eyes are on another level.

We all walked out, we usually take our time, so we don’t bump into each other’s backs and bodies sides trying to get out of the classroom, so we are pretty much the last people in our classroom and on this section of the school.

We are walking out with no rush from our section backyard, we are reaching that place of the school where the passageway from the third section meets with our section entrance/ exit, we heard a loud noise, not noise, voices, boys' voices, laughing loudly and also footsteps, it sound like they are running, and suddenly we see a bunch of guys running toward us, coming from the third section through the passageway, I don’t know the girls but I’m pretty sure I have a panic face on display because I thought we will definitely get ran over and fall down to the floor, damn we are wearing skirts and I don't have a lycra short under mine.

I shrugged and pulled my arms close to my body waiting to be hit, but somehow they all swiftly maneuvered around us, avoiding crashing against all of us, I heard sighs of relief from the girls and I just felt a slight touch over my shoulder, slight like a hand swiping, touching me, that came from behind me, so I turned to the right just to see him looking at me, Andrew, his eyes looking straight to my eyes just for a fleeting moment, Andrew passed me by, just slightly touched my shoulder and muttered with his perfectly defined lips “Sorry” and then winked on me, smiled, turned his head to the front and continue to run away.

Relax inner voice, relax, it is ok, I am ok.

F uck... I felt electricity running down my body, started with his touch on my shoulder and went down to my feet.

Laughter bursted out from the girls showing the relief of not being on the floor aching and all scratched on our knees or elbows.

I stayed silent, still in shocked of what just happened, what Andrew just did, just to hear Sandy say 

“Aaaawwwwww Did you all see Andy’s look at someone we all know?”

“Oh, for Christ’s sake, are you crazy Sandy, he was not looking at-“ I bursted out

I got interrupted by Steph that said, “Sandy never said it was you who he was looking for, did she?”

“Neither did I, did I?” I replied with a smirk, damn stop showing that you care.

“Cause Steph interrupted you” Lou said

“But I wasn’t going to say it was me, I was going to-“ I couldn’t finished my sentence again.

“Come on, just admit it, He was looking at you” Steph interrupted me again.

All started awwwww-ing me, and I just find it so annoying, I just hush them and continue walking faster and faster, trying to cool my face, that I am pretty sure is red, apple or tomato red for sure.

I hear from behind Sandy’s voice “He is gorgeous, right?” I don’t want to look back.

“Definitely” Lou said with a laughing mixed on with her voice.

“Have you all noticed how he is apparently interested in Vane?” Sandy said.

Her sudden comment makes me stop, turn back, and show them a face, I am not sure I can describe it, because I don't even know what I felt when I heard her say that.

They all stopped because I stopped, and they were looking at me, we stayed there just for a minute.

I finally tell them “I do not think that he is interested in me”

“Well, after crashing against him this morning in the cafeteria, you saw him or interacted with him four more times today” Steph said, and I just felt like my eyes were popping out of their sockets trying to tell her with my look to shut the f uck up.

“Waaaaaaaait, what? four times? other four times today?” Lou suddenly blurted out as soon as Steph words apparently hit the specific brain cell to decode the precise meaning of what just Steph revealed.

Their gaze, strong gaze may I add, fixated on my face, they stood there with no movement or word, just waiting for me to clarify that piece of information, I was betrayed with seconds ago.

“Ok hear me out, it is not as Steph just said” they all kept mute and waiting, damn it Steph, your big mouth apparently does this a lot.

“Ok, ok, well technically yes and no” I said trying to make their gaze less intense over me, but they all stood serious and expressionless looking at me.

“Well, you all saw me bumping into him in the cafeteria, right?” they all nodded

“Also, you all saw Sandy breaking the code and giving my name away to him” 

Sandy interrupted me saying “We already clarified this, we agreed I did not break the friendship code, I just answer his question, when he asked for my cute friend’s name, jajajaja” she burst out laughing.

“Oh, come on Sandy, that is not funny” I ranted over her laughing, the other three ladies were amused just watching me blush and Sandy laughing and making some weird faces to me.

“Ok I will not tell you anything else because you are making fun of me” I tried to turn back to continue walking, but the loud “Nooooooooo” all of them screamed made me realize there was no easy get away from them.

“Ok so if Sandy lets me continue” Sandy stopped as much as she could, and their gaze got back at my face as they all stopped watching how Sandy continued with a silly smile. 

“You already know he just said, ‘Hi Vanessa’, after the recess” they nodded again.

“I guess you all, including Steph, missed this one, when our Spanish teacher asked us to be silent, I looked back at her and saw out of our classroom door, Andrew”

“Whaaaaat, wait, what?” Steph said, “I didn’t know of this”

“Ok let me finish, he was looking inside our classroom, it looked like he was looking for someone, but then he saw me looking at him, smiled, saluted me and then just disappeared”

“Saluted you?” Lou asked

“Yes, you know, like the army or navy men salute a superior, with a straight hand on the forehead, you know right?”

They all just laughed, I guess because that made them imagine him doing that, I guess.

“Do you remember that when we got out of the classroom to go to the courtyard, we tried to convince the PE professor to let us all go to the bathroom, and we miserably failed?” they all nodded.

“As I was the one that really wanted to go to the bathroom and he said only one, do you all remember it was me who went there alone?” they all nodded again.

“I was thinking and talking to myself-” got interrupted by all of them “As you usually do!” I nodded back at them with my silly smile, guilty of charge.

“Well, when I was crossing the door frame that connects the section two and three exits with the cafeteria backyard, that we just passed, I bumped into someone” 

I lifted my gaze and saw all of them silent, gaping, intensely looking at me, and as I did not continue talking, I saw how Sandy and then Lou and then Sue and then just out of solidary Steph started agitating their hands in the air, like asking me with the specific agitated movement of their hands and all four were waiting to hear his name.
