“Huh, thank you.” I forced a smile, taking the glass. It wasn’t every day I met a vampire with a butler. Could this evening get any weirder? Both the butler and server excused themselves, leaving me alone. Left to my thoughts, I began to wander over the dim room. A fire blazed in the oversize fireplace that warmed the chilled air and gave the room an orangey glow. The room felt shut off from the world. Not a glint of moonlight seeped through the large windows hiding behind the prodigious scarlet velvet drapes. Such a shame too. The night was beautiful with the glistening crescent moon. Sitting by the fire was tempting, but I decided to remain on my feet. This lavish place gave me the willies. I’d do well to stay on guard. After all, I was the sole guest. Not exactly ideal.
