Chapter 2: Suzan’s POV

1307 Words
Here I am….In front of Callahan's estate. I had slept over it and I decided this would be the best decision to take in terms of helping my mum get better healthcare. I rang the bell and a voice spoke through the intercom asking me about my details which I told them about. Few minutes later the gate slid open and a lady in a black and white maid dress was standing in front of me. “Good day Miss Carter, Ma’am has been expecting you. Please follow me.” She said and turned on her heels and I followed her. I was scared about it all but I had no other way to help my mum. We walked into the house and I was scared to touch anything—it looked so clean and expensive. We stopped in front of a door, “She is waiting for you inside.” I gave a slight nod and knocked on the door, before pushing it open. Inside was a mini office but it was bigger than my apartment. Mrs. Maureen was sitting at the middle with a smile on her face. “Miss. Carter….welcome, please seat.” She offered me a seat. “What would you like to drink?” “Water is fine, thank you.” I said to her She gave a slight nod, she pressed the intercom on the table and ordered water, fruit juice and some pastries and in the next five minutes it was delivered. “Thank you…” I said to the girl who handed me the cold glass of water. “So….let’s get back to business, I assume you are not here to turn down the marriage?” She asked I exhaled, telling myself to get a grip, “no….I am here because I am all in for the marriage but on one condition.” Her eyebrows went up, “and what should that be?” “You tell your son, and if he agrees I would marry him but if he doesn’t, then the deal is not happening.” She leaned into her chair, “hmmmm…..okay.” “I want to be there to see his reaction.” I added and she smirked. “I like your spirit…..let’s get going then.” *********** We stood inside an elevator going up towards a penthouse. The silence was thick and tension was very palpable. The ding of the elevator brought me back to reality. We stepped in and as usual the expensive environment made me uncomfortable. A man with a suit walked towards us with a smile. “Ma’am Callahan welcome, Young master would be with you shortly.” The young man said respectfully. “Johnson, how are you?” Maureen asked with her usual smile. “Fine ma, this way please.” He led us to the sitting room, he asked what to offer us and as usual I took water and she took a glass of red sparkling wine which was served almost immediately. Just then I heard footsteps, I looked up and the most handsome man I have ever seen was walking towards me. Everything seemed to be frozen in time. The blogs and pictures did not do justice to this man’s beauty. “Mum.” He said, greeting her without acknowledging my presence. “Raymond” she responded. He took his seat, his face with a scowl which was always found in his pictures. “What do you want…..” his voice indifference. “Since that’s how we want to start…..say hello to your new wife.” Maureen said. His cold eyes darted towards me and I froze. His cold stares sent shivers down my spine. “Where did you pick her up from?…….. You know what I don't want to know, go dump her back there.” Every word hit harder than the last one. “Raymond Porshe Callahan, your father and I have an ultimate goal to find a wife and you haven't done so. Suzan, is going to be your new wife and it is not up for debate.” Maureen said, her voice stern. “What if I refused?” he asked, leaning into his chair. “Say goodbye to all you own.” The room was silent, I refused to bring my head up but I could feel his eyes on me. Maureen stood up and I was eager to follow her. “No, Suzan, you are staying here! The marriage contract would be drafted and sent over.” Maureen said to me. “But my…..” “Your mum would be taken care of. You have nothing to worry about. Johnson!” She called and the man in a suit appeared. “Ma’am!” “Show her to her room. Get her new clothes and everything she would need to be comfortable. She is going to resume work in the C-Empire as the CEO.” “Yes ma!” “Wait, what….Ma’am, I can’t.” I tried to stop a moving train “You can, my dear. You majored in business management with a 4.00 Cgpa. Being a CEO is going to be easy.” She turned to Raymond who had sat quietly, staring daggers at me, “you better treat her well because if I should find out that you don’t……” "...you'll regret ever crossing me," Maureen finished, her eyes glinting with a fierce warning. Raymond's expression didn't change, but I sensed a flicker of unease beneath his icy exterior. Maureen turned back to me, a smile plastered on her face. "I'll leave you two to get acquainted. Johnson, show Suzan to her room.” She turned and walked out of the penthouse. Johnson nodded and gestured for me to follow him. I hesitated, unsure of what to do. Raymond's voice stopped me. "You're not going anywhere." I turned back to him, my heart racing. "What do you mean?" He stood up, his eyes narrowing. "You're going to stay right here, with me." Johnson cleared his throat. "Sir, I think your mother—" "Johnson, get out," Raymond snapped, his voice cold. Johnson nodded and quickly exited the room, leaving me alone with Raymond. I swallowed hard, my mind racing. What did he plan to do with me? Raymond's eyes seemed to bore into mine, his gaze piercing. "You're not going anywhere until we get one thing straight." I took a step back, my heart pounding. "W-what's that?" He smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "You're going to do exactly as I say, from now on." I felt a chill run down my spine. What had I gotten myself into? And then, just as I thought things couldn't get any worse, I heard the sound of footsteps outside the room. "Raymond, darling," a sultry voice purred. "I see you're getting acquainted with your new...plaything." I turned to see a stunning woman standing in the doorway, her eyes fixed on me with a mixture of curiosity and contempt. Raymond's expression didn't change, but I sensed a flicker of tension in the air. "Alexandra," he said, his voice neutral. Alexandra smiled, her eyes glinting with malice. "What's going on here?" I felt a sense of unease growing inside me. Who was this woman, and what did she want? And then, just as I thought things were about to get out of hand, Raymond spoke up. "Alexandra, meet my new fiancée, Suzan." The room fell silent, and I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. Alexandra's eyes widened in shock, and then her face contorted in a mixture of anger and hurt. "You can't be serious," she spat, her voice venomous. Raymond's expression remained calm, but I sensed a storm brewing beneath the surface. "Oh, I'm very serious," he said, his voice dripping with ice. And with that, the room erupted into chaos.
