Chapter 2

Lyria’s POV The words hit harder than anything before. “What?” I stared at him. “That’s not true.” “You expect me to believe that?” he asked. “Yes!” I stepped forward, my voice rising. “Because it is the truth. I have never betrayed you. I would never do that to you.” My chest tightened as I looked at him, searching for something—anything. But there was nothing. No doubt. No hesitation. Only cold certainty. “Then explain,” I said, forcing the words out. “Explain what you think you saw.” Darius didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he glanced at Selene, and she stepped forward again. “I think it’s better if you stop pretending,” she said softly. “I’m not pretending,” I snapped, my patience breaking. “If you have something to say, then say it clearly.” She tilted her head slightly, her expression calm. “You were seen leaving the north woods late at night,” she said. “With someone who isn’t your mate.” The accusation hit the room like a spark. Whispers grew louder. I froze. “That’s not—” I stopped myself, taking a breath. “I went there alone.” “That’s not what was reported,” she replied. “Reported by who?” I demanded. “Who is making these claims?” No answer. Of course, there wasn’t anyone, because this was all a lie. “This doesn’t make sense,” I said, turning back to Darius. “You know me. You know I wouldn’t do something like that.” He didn’t respond. And that hurt more than the accusation itself. “You believe this?” I asked, my voice quieter now. “You believe her over me?” A long pause followed. “Yes,” he said. The word shattered something inside me. Just like that. No hesitation. No doubt. Just… yes. I took a step back, my chest tightening painfully. “I’ve been loyal to you,” I said, my voice trembling despite myself. “I’ve stood by you through everything. And this is all it takes for you to turn on me?” “You should have thought about that before you acted,” he replied. “I didn’t act!” I shouted. The room fell silent again. My breathing was uneven now, my heart pounding as I looked around. “Does anyone else believe this?” I asked. No one spoke. No one stepped forward. Not a single person. That silence answered everything. A bitter feeling settled in my chest. “They’ve already decided,” I said quietly. Darius didn’t deny it and offcourse, he didn’t because this had never been about truth. This had been planned. The realization hit slowly. “You set this up,” I said, my voice steady now. Selene’s lips curved slightly. Darius’s expression didn’t change. That was enough confirmation. “You were just waiting for a reason,” I continued. “Or maybe you didn’t even need one.” Still no denial, I let out a slow breath, but the pain was still there, but something else was rising with it. Clarity. “You could have just rejected me,” I said. “You didn’t have to do this.” “I needed a reason,” he replied simply. My stomach dropped. Offcourse, he couldn’t just discard me. He had to destroy me first. I laughed softly. Not because it was funny, but because it hurt too much not to. “You really planned this,” I said. Selene stepped closer to him again like she had already won. Maybe she had. “I think this has gone on long enough,” Darius said. My chest tightened again, I knew what was coming, I just didn’t want to hear it. Not like this. Not in front of everyone. “Darius…” I started. But he didn’t stop. “I, Alpha Darius Volen’s, reject you, Lyria Solis, as my mate and Luna.” The world shattered. Pain exploded through my chest. I screamed. It felt like something inside me was being torn apart, ripped out completely. My body dropped to the ground as the force of it overwhelmed me. My wolf howled— Then went silent. Gone. Just like that. The pain faded quickly. Too quickly. Leaving behind something worse. I gasped, clutching my chest, trying to feel something—anything, but there was nothing there. No bond. No wolf. No connection. Just emptiness, cold and endless. “I…” My voice came out broken. “She’s gone…” No one moved. No one helped. I forced myself to look up. Darius stood there, completely unaffected, like nothing had happened. “You are no longer part of this pack,” he said. His voice sounded distant now. Like I was hearing it from far away. “You have no place here.” No place? After everything I had done. Everything I had given. “You’re just throwing me away?” I asked quietly. “Yes.” he answered. Just like that. Selene smiled faintly beside him. “It’s better this way,” she added. For who? I asked. Darius turned away from me. “She will be removed.” Removed. Like I was nothing. “Wait,” I said quickly. He paused slightly, but didn’t turn. “What happens to me?” I asked. There was a brief silence. “You’ve been sold.” “You will leave immediately.” “I have found my true Luna,” he said, pulling Selene closer. Just like that. “Why?” I whispered. Not because I expected an answer. But because I needed to ask for myself. He didn’t respond. Selene did. “Because you’re no longer useful.” The words hit harder than anything else. Not useful. That was what I had been to them. Not a mate. Not a Luna. Not a person. Just something to use and discard. I lowered my gaze slowly. Something inside me went quiet. Completely quiet. No more confusion, no more questions. Just understanding that this had never been about betrayal. This had always been about control. “Take her away,” Darius ordered. The guards moved toward me and grabbed my arms, but I didn’t resist this time. I let them pull me up, let them drag me out of the hall. Out of the pack. Out of everything I knew. As they pulled me to my feet, my legs felt weak—but I didn’t fall. I wouldn’t fall again, not in front of them, not ever again. They dragged me toward the exit. The hall. The pack. My past. All of it disappeared behind me. And still, no one stopped them. No one spoke. No one cared. As the doors closed behind me, I heard it. Faint, quiet, but clear. Darius’s voice. “Make sure she’s sent before nightfall,” he said. “We wasted enough time waiting for her to awaken.”
