Damian sat on the bed of his shabby new apartment, lost in thought. He had just rented the place using the money from selling his wedding ring.
The silence in the room only made the pain in his heart worse. He imagined Seraphina having fun with Alston, while he suffered alone.
How could he possibly forget Seraphina?
Suddenly, someone knocked on his door. He opened it, surprised to see a middle-aged woman standing there with a panicked expression.
“What’s wrong?”
Maggie was the apartment building manager and the only person who cared about Damian. She had helped him get a discount.
“Someone’s looking for you.” Maggie was sweating and visibly nervous, as if she had just run into the mafia. “Did you get on someone’s bad side, son?”
Damian frowned. “Of course not. Why do you ask?” His curiosity grew.
“There are four big men looking for you in the lobby.”
Damian was shocked. As far as he knew, he hadn’t offended anyone—except maybe Alston.
Did he send his men to get rid of me?
“Why are they looking for me?”
“I don’t know either.” Maggie's eyes glistened with fear and sadness.
Damian gave her a reassuring smile and patted her shoulder. “Don’t worry. They’re my friends.” He was forced to lie.
He headed to the lobby. Just as Maggie had said, four large, intimidating men were waiting for him.
“What do you want from me?” Damian’s cold voice made the air around them tense.
The four men felt an overwhelming pressure from Damian, enough to make their legs tremble slightly, but they tried to hide it.
“We were sent by Ms. Elisya Harris to pick you up.”
“Who’s that? I don’t know her.”
They were stunned. Who didn’t know the woman dubbed the Goddess of Beauty? Was Damian living under a rock?
“She’s the daughter of Mr. Kennedy Harrison, the man you helped yesterday.”
“Oh.” Damian’s tone softened slightly. “Why does she want to see me?”
“She wants to treat you to dinner at her family’s restaurant as a thank you. She also wants to give you a gift.”
“No need. Healing people is simply my duty.” Damian gave a faint smile.
The four men exchanged puzzled looks. Did he really not know who Kennedy was? People fought to get close to Elisya for the benefits from her family’s company.
“She’s offering you an expensive gift. She’ll grant you whatever you ask.” They didn’t give up because they were afraid of getting fired if they failed.
“Would she fire you if I refused to come with you?” Damian asked calmly.
Their eyes widened. How did he know exactly what they were thinking?
Damian sighed. It seemed he had no choice. He gave a slow nod. “Very well. Tell Ms. Elisya I accept her invitation.” He purposely left out his last name, Sanchez, as Feira always told him to.
They let out a sigh of relief. “We’ll inform her. Please be ready, Mister.”
He nodded and returned to his room.

Elisya stepped out of her luxury car when her guards told her that Damian had accepted her invitation. She wore a sea-blue dress that showed off her elegant figure.
“Elisya?”
The 27-year-old turned toward the voice. Her face fell when she saw the man who constantly pestered her.
“What are you doing here?” Alston grinned as he approached.
“That’s none of your business. And why are you at my family’s restaurant?” Her voice was cold. Though beautiful, Elisya had a firmness that many businessmen and men in general feared.
Alston glanced to the side, scrambling for a decent excuse. He couldn’t say he was there to accompany his girlfriend for a family dinner.
“I just wanted to have dinner alone. I heard this was the best restaurant in the world, so I was curious.”
“Oh,” Elisya replied flatly and walked past him.
“You look stunning. Are you having dinner with your father?” Alston saw this as a chance to win over Kennedy. If he could marry Elisya, his business would thrive.
“No,” Elisya replied sharply, clearly fed up. Why wouldn’t Alston leave her alone? She had always been cold and distant.
The gorgeous woman despised obsessive men.
“I’m having dinner with my boyfriend.” Elisya hoped this would finally make Alston give up.
Alston’s eyes widened. “Boyfriend? Since when do you have a boyfriend? Why didn’t I know?”
“Why would I tell you? We have no relationship.”
That fact hit Alston like a dagger to the heart. He had been trying to win Elisya’s heart for five years. Now, it was all for nothing.
Who was the man who managed to melt this ice queen?
The sound of a car engine interrupted them. A Rolls-Royce pulled up nearby. Elisya’s smile bloomed with joy. Finally, her knight in shining armor had arrived.
Alston was confused by her sudden happiness, as if she had just won a million-dollar contract.
A man stepped out of the car. Elisya immediately walked over and held onto his arm.
“He’s my boyfriend.”
Alston stood frozen in disbelief.
