CHAPTER 005

HELENA'S POINT OF VIEW My eyes opened. Already morning? I had hardly slept for one hour. Get ready. His sharp voice broke through the quiet: "I have more important things to do than watch you sleep like a dead log." Was that meant to be the morning's greeting? I nodded softly, then pushed myself to stand and straightened my body as I headed for the toilet. The agony vanished entirely. I want to thank the Moon Goddess. I never wanted to go through such a situation once more. If I did, I would go insane. I focused on my mirror reflection. same fatigued face. Likewise, hollow eyes. I wanted to be something bigger. I turned on the water and closed my eyes and sensed movement. My eyes opened to lock onto his. My inhaler stopped in my throat. "Don't," he cautioned before I could respond. Though every instinct prompted me to conceal myself, I gulped hard and dropped my hands gradually. As he entered the shower cubicle, it was smaller than it had ever been. I turned away till my spine made contact with the chilly tile wall. His arms surrounded me, palms pushed against the wall next to my head. His eyes stared right into me. My respiration became erratic and laborious. His fingers reached my chest and grabbed me so tightly that I yelled in agony. His mouth was on me, his tongue burning against my flesh before I could react. His fingers followed down. My body deceived me. I loved it. hated his easy ability to cause me to break apart. He turned away fast, leaving me stunned and gasping. He had come. He left the shower silently, and I reached for support on the wall. "What simply happened?" I said nothing except whispers to nobody. Trying to undo his touch, I slowly completed my wash, scrubbing my skin harder than I should have. I should have objected to him. I had advised myself of that. But my body rebelled against listening. He was already waiting when I finally got ready. I trailed him from the motel. Stopped at the reception counter to check out. "Caio, you are leaving already?" Flirty, the receptionist grinned at him. Yes, I am. "Last night was fantastic. I'd like us to get back together soon. I started to tighten my hands. She did not know I was standing exactly here. Obviously. Giving her a wink, he replied, "I will call you when I want you." The woman flushed furiously. Though it hurt, I ate it down. Not even that I observed bothered him. I scrubbed at the tear that escaped before it could land. I turned him away from seeing my suffering. We strolled to the limousine just outside. The chauffeur bent to let us in the door. The ride was quiet and agonizing. I numerous times cleared my throat, hoping he would say anything. Never did he do. "You don't owe me an apology, I guess?" At last I asked, unable to hold it in any more. He laughed at it. "There is nothing to apologize for." "Of course," I said, cleaning another tear. I turned to face the window and let stillness envelop me once more. "We are here," the chauffeur said. The automobile door opened, and he left without looking back into my way. I trailed, crossing the driveway of the great mansion. Before me stood a huge, sophisticated home shouting with riches. For a property like this, my father would have sold me in a pulse. Struggling to match Caio's huge strides, I pulled my little suitcase behind me. Pushing open doors as I meandered down a corridor, I discovered they were closed. Where was I meant to be my destination? His voice then abruptly sounded behind me: "Will you keep opening every door you come across?" I whirled. He had come behind me when? "This is new for me here. I am not familiar with my way about. "That does not constitute an excuse. Keep up. I followed him almost running to keep his speed. He was already in the main hall attending to a room full of people when I at last caught up. Beside him was a woman whose arm encircled his. My gut twisted. "Who is she, meus dulcis? Is she your new animal friend? Although the woman's voice was sickly sweet, her eyes were piercing as she raked over me. I became stiff. A friend? Caio said dismissively, not even paying me a glance, "She is not important." Though I fought myself not to respond, his comments wounded hard. "I will show you to your room," a gentle voice remarked next to me. About my age, a small girl offered a quick smile. I nodded, then trailed her across the hallways. She threw open a door and remarked, "This is your room." "Thanks..." I am Camila. Pet of Master Caio is me." I started to almost choke. "Animal?" She nodded slightly. "Yeah. You?" I hesitated. Why should I have told them who I was if Caio had not? She conjectured, "Did he bring you here to pay off your father's debt?" We nodded. It was not wholly a falsehood. "I know how that feels," she moaned. "I was hauled here five years ago." "You're human?" She is nodding once more. "Yes, but that is a narrative fit for another day. I should go. She dropped her head before she could stand to depart. "Manager." Her was responded to by Caio's voice. "You are dismissible." I didn't have to go looking for him behind me. "Don on this gown. We have a ball to go to. He collapsed a bag on the bed. "We merely arrived." "You slept last night, did you not?" "Not really." "Not mine. Five minutes remain. He vanished next. I transformed fast, just using powder and lip gloss. Usually Sofia's style, I had never been one for cosmetics. I left the hall and fortunately came upon Camila. She said softly, "You look fantastic." "You are overdosing." "I'm not. Helena, you are gorgeous. "What is a lovely woman like you doing alone?" Behind me there sounded a voice. I spun around and started to hail. Naturally second only to Caio, he was the most beautiful man I had ever seen. Too unfortunate nobody could ever match his attractiveness. Though his lips were moving, I couldn't see the words. I was hypnotic all around. He pulled me back to reality by snapping fingers in front of my face. "I asked whether you would dance with me." "I... I do not know how to dance," I stammered anxiously. "I will guide you." His voice was seamless, his confidence unflinching. I looked about the audience for Caio. My heart tightened at seeing him dancing so near to the previous woman. Why could I not enjoy myself if he could? Of course. I put my hand in his and mustered a little grin. His grip was strong but soft; he took me to the dance floor. As promised, he directed my motions with a consistent, sure touch. His hands rested on my waist; mine wound their way to his shoulders. Our motions grew too s****l, too intimate; the music took us. My pulse accelerated. He said, "You are very beautiful," softly against my ear, and something deep inside me constricted. "Your name is enchanted. What is?" "Hel...Helena," I said with short breaths. His smell assaulted my senses—intoxicating, overpowering. One word kept running across between us. "Mate." We had both said it concurrently. I shook my head, my brain whirling. That seemed unattainable. I retreated, then he drew me back with a firm hold. "Mine," he snarled. I looked into his eyes, amber ones meeting deep forest-green ones. Time halted. Then I was abruptly pulled from his hold. "Stay away from what belongs to Alpha Davi." Caio spoke darkly and angrily. His hold on my waist tightened and dragged me against his chest. His smell calmed me but also possessed me. "She is Alpha Caio's friend, mate! Alpha Davi maintained his ground by crossing his arms over his chest. "Impossible! She is just mine and only mine! Caio whirled me around without warning, and his lips landed on mine. Desperate and harsh, the kiss claimed me in front of all. Alpha Davi ripped me from Caio's embrace before I could gather what was happening. I shook and gasped for air. He roared, his voice vibrating through me: "Helena is mine!" Caio moved without hesitation. He threw the first punch. Alpha Davi answered, and shortly they were rolling over the ground, fists flying. Tension buzzed in the air. The throng gasped and retreated to allow room. Two Alphas: one mate. How could this be even conceivable?
