Chapter Seven I lay in the bed. My legs were spread-eagled, my toes touching each of the bottom corners of the mattress. My arms were flung wide, my palms up in offering. Though I was exhausted mentally and physically, the gods of sleep didn’t come to take my sacrifice. I stared up at the thatched roof I’d constructed with my own hands.
