Richard's pupils suddenly contracted.
Almost instinctively, he stood up and reached out, pulling Ruby into his arms.
The fall she had anticipated didn't come. Ruby slowly opened her eyes, meeting Richard's gaze. Her cheeks flushed red almost instantly.
In a weak voice, she said, "Richard… I knew you wouldn't leave me behind."
Richard's eyes remained inscrutable as he quickly released her, his expression cold as ever. He turned to the bodyguard beside him and instructed, "Take Miss Dalton back to rest."
"Yes, sir."
The bodyguard obeyed, helping Ruby out of the room.
