Fred kept attending tutorial lectures till he wrote all of his SSCE examinations.Months later, some of his results came out and he did performed very well. He was later offered admission by the university of his choice. He broke the news to his father, he congratulated him, but told him it was of no use accepting the admission offer. "but dad why?" Fred asked in shock.
" I don't want you to school in this country, I am making arrangements for you to school in London"
" but dad..."
" No buts... you are schooling in London, and that is my decision....... meanwhile, keep reading your books, because you will be writing an exam in about a month's time" Chief Johnson said not even giving Fred a chance to talk.
" ok dad" Fred said and walked away.
Some months later, Fred and his siblings were at the sitting room watching a movie when their father returned from work "welcome dad" they chorused. "And how are my kids doing?"
"fine dad" they all replied.
" ehm... Fred, congratulations, you have been offered admission in London" Chief said and walked upstair. Fred received the news with mixed feelings; He was happy he would be schooling abroad, but the thought of living Tracy made him sad.
A few days to Fred's travel, he was sitted at a corner in the compound lost in thought, Tracy walked in and saw him, she went over to him; when she saw Fred's mood, tears filled her eyes; Fred looked up and saw her, but he didn't know what to say to her.
"So it's true?" she asked with tears in her eyes " You are planning of leaving the country without telling me" she further said.
" Tracy... I know how you feel, but don't worry, everything will be fine... I promise" Fred said trying to control his tears.
" Fred, I fear for our love.... will you still love me when you get there?...will you even remember me talk more of thinking about me?"
" Tracy, please don't say that, it's breaking my heart"
" Now I know that our love was just like a house built on a Sandy soil without a good foundation, and now it's about to collapse... how I..." she tried speaking further, but her tears wouldn't let her. Fred hugged her passionately and started consoling her.
"Listen to me Tracy... I promise that I will never leave you for another person...see, the love I have for you is too strong that even distance cannot break it"
"Fred, I understand how you feel, but please, don't make promises you will never keep"
"No... no... no, I mean every word I am saying to you... I will never love another, please, just wait for me, that's all I ask of you... I will surely come back for you" fred said, finally convincing her. They hugged each other once again, and kissed deeply.
Tracy also broke the news of her admission to study medicine in one of the prestigious federal universities in the country, and they were both happy.
