I was happy to have my mom at my mating ceremony. I never thought she would be there. Hell, I never even thought I would have one, but it was a beautiful day, and it also seemed as though David was finally coming around. David officiated, which made it all the more special.
Sadly, no matter how hard mom tried to hide it, I could see the sadness in her eyes. She missed my father and I wondered if he missed her. I couldn’t even begin to imagine life without Caleb. How was it that my father could just ignore my mother like that?
It was two days after our ceremony, in the late evening, when the news came, and I rushed out to the border with the rest of my new family. I gaped as I saw the state my father was in. He had clearly been beaten, and so too did the people who were with him.
