I quickly follow CJ as he runs back into the ruined church, following Rover. "CJ... Maybe he's like ... following a scent or something".
I am not sure where it comes from, it is just a feeling I suddenly get, that the dog has a reason to do this. But I just feel that there is more to this than running away.
"You might be right". CJ stops, he is breathing rather hard. "He seems to be searching for something ... or maybe someone".
When Rover stops beside the jagged hole in the floor and gives one sharp bark, I suddenly hear someone groan ... like in pain and run forward. "Mom ? Mom, is that you ?"
CJ is instantly by my side and we both hear the weak voice coming from the hole in the floor. "Payton !? Is that you ? What happened ?"
"It's me mom". I kneel down beside Rove
