Chapter 25I sat pulled into myself, my legs curled up under the seat, unwilling to let any part of my body accidentally touch his. His legs were crossed, his hands folded loosely in his lap as if he were trying to look casual and relaxed, but the tension between us betrayed him. I hoped he wasn’t waiting for me to speak. Otherwise, this would be a silent trip. After a moment, he sighed. “Tell me, son. What were you doing at the Collection Center?” A half-dozen lies flittered through my head, but why bother?
