Chapter 9The Rec Room was the only non-residential building that opened into the residential area of the Colony. Its white brick walls matched the buildings surrounding it, but there was little need for the small silver plaque by the gates—everyone knew what it was. Every night of the week, the Rec Room opened for a different age group, and when it was your turn, you didn’t not go. During the day, we were only with the kids in our own year. At home, we were only with our parents and siblings, or maybe our Other if a date had been arranged. At the Rec Room, though, we mingled with kids a few years younger and a few years older than we were, and we loved it. I caught up with Brin at the platform just as the monorail was slowing at our stop. “You made it!” she cried, giving me a quick hug. H
