In the "Yuetian" council hall, three distinguished men gathered.
"I absolutely cannot tolerate this," the only woman among them, Helena, said indignantly. "Helena, don't be like this. The master may have his reasons." Situ Ye tried to persuade Helena.
Helena, known as the first beauty of the desert. A beauty should possess the qualities of a flower, a bird, and a willow. She had them all. Such a beauty should be loved by all, but she only had eyes for Lance Morgan, the mastermind behind "Yuetian."
The master's disinterest in women was well-known, but Helena insisted on pursuing him. Normally, the master wouldn't refuse anyone, but he brought back a woman and placed her in Tianju, the master's residence. Only the master and his wife were allowed to live there. The master's protection of that woman made Helena furious.
"She has no right to live there." Helena stabbed a dagger into the table, making the other two men nervous.
"Helena, don't cause trouble." Shi Ping warned. The master hadn't explained the woman's presence, but that didn't mean they could harm her.
"She is nothing." Helena's cheeks flushed with anger, but she was still beautiful. "That woman is worthless. The master won't care. I'm his right hand. He will side with me." And she was beautiful, though she didn't say it aloud.
No one knew what the woman looked like because the master forbade anyone from entering Tianju. Helena was furious that the master protected her so much. Why did she get all the master's attention?
"Helena, don't be arrogant." Situ Ye warned. He knew what Helena was planning.
A jealous woman was unreasonable. No one could predict what she would do.
"The master cannot want her!" Helena slammed the table, angry at her companions' indifference. "Why won't you help me?"
Shi Ping looked at her coldly. A jealous woman was terrifying. Did she expect them to help her kill her rival?
"Don't dream. If you want to cause trouble, do it yourself. Don't expect me to help."
"Helena, you're blinded by jealousy." Shi Ping shook his head. He wouldn't get involved.
"I won't either." Situ Ye declared. "You'll regret it one day." He sighed. Love always left regrets. He hoped Helena would understand.
"Miss, your wound is completely healed." The doctor smiled at Ghost Shadow.
"I know." Ghost Shadow turned her head, not even saying "thank you."
This girl was really cold. The doctor didn't mind, packing up his things and standing up.
Few were as cold as her. During the treatment, he noticed her coldness—she rarely spoke unless necessary.
What a pity. Such a beautiful girl with such a personality.
"Completely healed?" Lance entered the room, asking the doctor.
"Yes." The doctor respectfully bowed to Lance.
"Why are you here?" Ghost Shadow glared at Lance. She hated him!
The doctor saw Lance and decided to leave. "I'll go now."
"Mm." Lance waved, not caring. "Does it still hurt?" He turned to Ghost Shadow.
"I should leave." Ghost Shadow avoided his question.
"I didn't say you could leave." He looked at her seriously. "You saw what you shouldn't have. I can't let you go."
"You could kill me." That way, she wouldn't have to guess his intentions.
"You're exceptional." He said unexpectedly. "You'd make a good 'companion.'" That's why he didn't kill her.
"Companion?" She laughed. Did he know her profession? "I don't want to. Find someone better." He had no taste.
"Don't want to? Aren't you afraid I'll kill you?" He didn't expect her refusal, his face darkening.
"Not afraid." In her dictionary, "fear" didn't exist.
What did he want her for? She was just a cold-blooded killer. He'd regret choosing her.
"I don't accept refusal." He held a lock of her hair, smelling it. His decision was unchangeable.
What was he doing?
Ghost Shadow turned, trying to pull back her hair, but couldn't. He was too strong.
She never let anyone touch her, not even a lock of hair. She knew he liked to provoke her, but this time he went too far.
He smiled, her struggle stirring his heart. Waves of emotion rippled through him.
"I'm Lance Morgan, your companion." She heard him say.
"No information, master."
"None?" Lance stood up, incredulous, grabbing the paper from Situ Ye and quickly reading it. "Just this?"
Half a month ago, a fisherman from the village saved her. Name unknown, cold personality.
"Her name?" His proud "Yuetian" intelligence network gave him this short line. Her origin, life, everything was unknown. Damn!
"We tried our best." Situ Ye lowered his head, ashamed. They really did. The girl the master wanted was too mysterious, like she fell from the sky. They found nothing about her past.
"Alright, I understand." Lance dismissed Situ Ye, having an idea.
The master's arrangement of a girl in Tianju shocked "Yuetian." Everyone speculated about the beauty who captured the master's heart.
Tianju, the future master's wife's residence.
While everyone speculated about the beauty, Ghost Shadow packed her things, ready to leave "Yuetian."
Her wound was healed. She never stayed in one place too long. For an assassin, that was a taboo. A fixed location meant enemies could ambush her. She had no fixed place, making the world her home.
Maybe she left the 20th century and "The Order," but she was still an assassin. Old habits didn't change. She survived by them, so why change?
Lonely? No.
That was a term for the weak. For her, being alone was fine. Humans were independent beings, meant to live independently. Living alone meant no attachments. Call her heartless, cold, but that was her—heartless, selfish Ghost Shadow.
With a push, Ghost Shadow easily jumped over a low wall.
No one knew "The Order" was a fusion of various martial arts, training assassins. "The Order" assassins were highly skilled, even knowing "lightness skill."
It sounded unbelievable, but it was true. As "The Order's" top assassin, Ghost Shadow's skills were exceptional.
As Ghost Shadow turned to jump onto the roof, a flying knife shot at her, aiming for her head.
A weapon! Ghost Shadow quickly ducked, dodging the attack. She flipped in mid-air, landing perfectly.
"You must be the woman the master hid in Tianju!" Helena drew a long sword, pointing at Ghost Shadow.
Who was she? Ghost Shadow didn't know her. She was sure she didn't know the woman, but she still prepared to fight.
Whether she knew the woman or not, anyone who wanted to kill her would be killed.
"Want to kill me?" Ghost Shadow coldly laughed, her eyes full of killing intent.
Helena was shocked. She was different from what she imagined. Helena thought the master's woman would be a delicate beauty, but she wasn't. This woman was cold, exuding an aura of difference. Was she the woman the master chose? A special woman.
But the master was hers. Helena bit her lip, swinging her sword at Ghost Shadow. "Die!"
"Helena, don't—" Situ Ye rushed in, seeing the scene.
"Ye, don't interfere." Helena glared at Situ Ye, swinging her sword at Ghost Shadow.
"You're crazy!" Situ Ye rushed to help Shi Ping. Helena's martial arts were good. He feared Shi Ping couldn't handle her alone.
"You—" Helena looked at her friends, who usually treated her like a little sister. They stopped her! She angrily kicked Situ Ye's hand away and kicked Shi Ping, blocking their attacks. She then swung her sword at Ghost Shadow.
"Helena, don't—" Lance arrived, seeing Helena swinging her sword.
Helena's martial arts were well-known. No one expected Ghost Shadow to survive.
"Want to kill me?" Ghost Shadow smiled, showing no fear.
Surprisingly, Ghost Shadow kicked Helena's sword away, then twisted her arm, pinning it behind her back. All in an instant, leaving everyone stunned.
"You—" Helena was humiliated. She used her free hand to draw a hidden knife from her shoe, slashing at Ghost Shadow's back. Martial arts were her pride. How could this woman treat her like this?
Ghost Shadow didn't dodge, letting Helena cut her. If she dodged, Helena would escape. She wasn't stupid. After the expected pain, Ghost Shadow crushed Helena's right hand.
"Ah—" Helena screamed, dropping her knife.
"Hmph." Ghost Shadow disdainfully turned her head, flipping her hair back. "You asked for it." She released Helena.
"My god!" Situ Ye couldn't believe his eyes. Ghost Shadow subdued Helena in three moves. He usually had to fight Helena for a long time to subdue her. How could this woman do it in three moves?
"Helena." Shi Ping's reaction was better. He quickly approached the injured Helena, admiring Ghost Shadow.
"She's fine, just a broken right hand." Ghost Shadow coldly looked at Helena, showing no sympathy.
"You—" Helena pointed at Ghost Shadow, unable to speak.
"You brought this on yourself." She deserved it. Hmph, foolish woman.
Ghost Shadow tied her hair back, the movement pulling her wound.
Pain. She frowned, enduring the pain.
Lance saw everything.
"Come here." He grabbed her hand, pulling her close.
"You're hurt?"
Ghost Shadow didn't answer, pulling her hand back.
"Answer me! Are you hurt?" He shouted.
"Master—" Helena softly called Lance, trying to regain his attention.
"Shut up!" Lance shouted. When extremely agitated, he lost his reason. It was best not to provoke him. "Before I decide how to deal with you, stay here."
"Master—" Helena tearfully looked at Lance. How could he treat her like this?
Good opportunity. Ghost Shadow took advantage of Lance's distraction to jump over the wall.
"Where do you think you're going?" A large hand grabbed her waist, pulling her back.
Damn it. "Let go of me!" She struck his head.
Lance didn't flinch, grabbing her hand and pulling her into his arms. "Stop it." Her back was bleeding again. "I'll take you to get medicine."
"No—" Ghost Shadow struggled. She was outmatched. She would kill this man one day. Ghost Shadow struggled, thinking.
Lance skillfully carried Ghost Shadow to a room. After walking down a long corridor, he opened a door and walked in.
So fragrant, the room was filled with a strong medicinal scent. Where was this?
"Take off your clothes." Lance placed Ghost Shadow on a couch, searching for medicine.
"That small wound won't kill me." She scoffed. Compared to her past injuries, this was nothing.
"Can't you be like other women, a little more delicate?" Lance found the medicine, annoyed she didn't undress.
"I can apply the medicine myself." She turned her head, frowning.
"Do you have eyes on the back of your head?" He undressed her, seeing her blood-soaked clothes and terrible wound.
"Just apply it, whatever." Ghost Shadow indifferently exposed her bare back.
"It might hurt. Bear with it." Lance opened a gold-inlaid box, releasing a sandalwood scent. The medicine was a rare concoction from the Eastern Roman Empire, made from various rare herbs. Applying it not only healed wounds quickly but also left no scars.
During the entire process, Ghost Shadow didn't make a sound, as if she felt no pain. Did it hurt? Of course. But living in a world of constant danger, she was used to the pain of treating wounds. This was nothing.
"Done?" She felt him stop, quickly covering herself.
"Again tonight." He placed the gold-inlaid box on the table, looking at her seriously. "What are those scars on your back?" He saw many scars on her back, though faint, still visible.
Who was so cruel to leave so many scars on a girl, and she seemed indifferent. Was she really that cold?
"Nothing important." Ghost Shadow slowly dressed. "Those who dared to hurt me are long dead. You can't find them to settle accounts." She killed them long ago.
Lance heard the sarcasm in her voice. He was always curious about her past.
"What is your job?" Her skills were extraordinary, not like a typical lady.
"Assassin."
She didn't hide the truth, unafraid of being honest. Hopefully, it would scare him away, so he wouldn't want her as a companion.
Lance showed no surprise. He seemed to have expected it. "Your name? What's your name?" He always wanted to know. Her past was almost completely unknown.
"No name." Ghost Shadow shook her head, knowing this answer would anger him.
"No name?" Lance lifted her chin. "Why?"
"Assassins have no names." She smiled. "We only focus on eliminating targets. No one cares about anything else."
"Any name will do." His voice echoed in her ears. "I know you have one."
"Ghost Shadow. They call me Ghost Shadow." She gave in.
"Ghost Shadow?" He laughed. A good name, fitting her.
"Shadow, from now on, you'll be Shadow. You're my exclusive Shadow, my lifelong companion." He made his first and only vow.
From now on, she was his woman. No matter how time flowed, through countless lifetimes, this vow would never change.
He... was he crazy?
Ghost Shadow looked at Lance, shocked. She knew he was serious. If he said it, he would do it. She couldn't escape him. She knew.
Lance's deep voice echoed in her ears. "I don't care where you're from. Even if you're from a thousand years in the future, I don't care. You're destined to be mine, body and soul, forever."
"But I'm a bloodthirsty assassin!" Ghost Shadow cried. Why her?
Lance shrugged. "No problem. A bloodthirsty vampire and a bloodthirsty assassin, a perfect match." She had too many excuses.
Lifting her delicate face, Lance kissed her lips, both tender and teasing, completely disrupting Ghost Shadow's thoughts, stirring her heart.
"On our wedding day, I'll make you a vampire. You'll have eternal life, never aging, never dying..." Lance's deep voice echoed in Ghost Shadow's ears, lingering.
