The Revelation

The next morning, Ghost Shadow woke up feeling more rested than she had in a long time. The warmth of the fire and the comfort of the bed had given her a rare sense of peace. She stretched and looked around the room, realizing that Lance was nowhere to be seen. She got up and dressed quickly, her mind already racing with thoughts of escape. She knew she couldn't stay here forever, no matter how safe and comfortable it seemed. She had to find a way to leave. As she stepped out of the room, she was greeted by the sight of Lance standing in the hallway, waiting for her. "Good morning," he said with a smile. "Did you sleep well?" Ghost Shadow nodded, trying to hide her surprise. "Yes, thank you." "Good. I have something to show you," he said, gesturing for her to follow him. Curious, Ghost Shadow followed Lance down the hallway and into a large room filled with books and maps. It looked like a study, with a large wooden desk in the center and shelves lining the walls. Lance walked over to the desk and picked up a map, spreading it out on the surface. "This is a map of the surrounding area," he explained. "I thought you might want to see it." Ghost Shadow stepped closer, studying the map. It showed the castle and the nearby village, as well as the surrounding forests and rivers. She could see the paths and roads leading in and out of the area, and her mind immediately began to calculate possible escape routes. "Why are you showing me this?" she asked, her eyes narrowing. Lance looked at her, his expression serious. "Because I want you to understand that you are free to leave if you choose. I won't stop you." Ghost Shadow stared at him, stunned. "What?" "I mean it," he said. "I want you to stay because you want to, not because you feel trapped. If you want to leave, I won't stop you." She didn't know what to say. She had expected him to try to keep her here, to control her. But this... this was unexpected. "Why?" she finally asked. "Because I care about you," he said simply. "And I want you to be happy." Ghost Shadow felt a lump in her throat. She had never experienced this kind of kindness before. It was overwhelming. "I... I don't know what to say," she admitted. "You don't have to say anything," Lance said gently. "Just know that the choice is yours." She looked at the map again, her mind racing. She could leave. She could find her way back to the life she knew. But did she want to? For the first time, she felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, she could find a new life here, with him. "Thank you," she said softly. Lance smiled. "You're welcome."
