The Decision

Ghost Shadow spent the next few days exploring the castle and its surroundings. Lance had given her the freedom to come and go as she pleased, and she took full advantage of it. She wandered through the gardens, walked along the river, and even ventured into the nearby village. Everywhere she went, she was greeted with kindness and curiosity. The villagers were friendly and welcoming, and she found herself slowly beginning to relax. For the first time in a long time, she felt a sense of belonging. But despite the peaceful surroundings, her mind was still troubled. She couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched, that someone was following her. She knew it was only a matter of time before her past caught up with her. One evening, as she was walking back to the castle, she heard footsteps behind her. She turned quickly, her hand reaching for the dagger she always kept hidden in her cloak. "Who's there?" she called out, her voice steady. A figure stepped out of the shadows, and she recognized him immediately. It was Gabriel, her old nemesis from "The Order." "Hello, Ghost Shadow," he said with a sneer. "Long time no see." Ghost Shadow's heart raced. She had hoped she would never see him again, but here he was, standing right in front of her. "What do you want, Gabriel?" she demanded, her grip tightening on the dagger. "I want what I've always wanted," he replied. "To see you dead." Before she could react, he lunged at her, his own dagger flashing in the moonlight. Ghost Shadow dodged his attack, her training kicking in. She fought back with all her strength, but Gabriel was relentless. The two of them battled fiercely, their movements a blur of speed and precision. Ghost Shadow knew she couldn't let him win. She had to protect herself, and she had to protect Lance. With a final, desperate effort, she managed to disarm Gabriel and knock him to the ground. She stood over him, her dagger pressed to his throat. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you right now," she hissed. Gabriel laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "Because if you do, you'll never find out who sent me." Ghost Shadow hesitated. She knew he was right. Killing him would only bring more questions, and she needed answers. "Who sent you?" she demanded. Gabriel's eyes gleamed with malice. "You'll have to find that out for yourself." Before she could stop him, he reached into his cloak and pulled out a small vial. He drank the contents in one swift motion, and within seconds, he was dead. Ghost Shadow stared at his lifeless body, her mind racing. She had to find out who was behind this, and she had to do it quickly. She turned and ran back to the castle, her heart pounding. She needed to find Lance. She needed his help. When she reached the castle, she found Lance in the study, poring over a map. "Lance," she said breathlessly. "We have a problem." He looked up, his expression serious. "What is it?" "Gabriel found me," she said. "And he wasn't working alone. Someone sent him." Lance's eyes narrowed. "Did he say who?" "No," she replied. "He killed himself before he could tell me." Lance stood up, his jaw clenched. "We need to find out who sent him. And we need to do it quickly." Ghost Shadow nodded. "I know. But I can't do it alone. I need your help." Lance walked over to her, taking her hands in his. "You have my help. We'll figure this out together." For the first time, Ghost Shadow felt a sense of hope. She wasn't alone anymore. She had Lance by her side, and together, they would face whatever came their way.
