The seventeen-year-old walks in the front door and as soon as she realized that they were home. Her foster parents she ran upstairs to get away from them as soon and as fast as she possibly could. She didn't want to have to deal with her abusive foster family right after she got home from school she was hoping that they wouldn't hear her come home so she could get out of there. She didn’t get upstairs fast enough. She heard them yelling her name all the way from the basement which was the last place she wanted to go but if she didn’t the punishment would be a million times worse than whatever they had planned for her. Isabella has been in the foster system for as long as she can remember, she was a baby when she first was put into the system only back then she wasn’t alone she had her older brother who was there and took care of her but they were separated early in her life.
Isabella walked back down the stairs, she stopped when she got to the top of the stairs that lead to the basement. This was the worst place in the entire house she never liked to go down there because whenever she went down there she was punished and now she was being called down to the worst place in the whole house. She slowly went down the stairs she stopped at each step debating if she could turn around and run back up to the safe part of the house but still, she continued down the stairs counting each one so she knew how many steps away from danger and safety. After ten minutes of walking down the stairs, she finally made it down to the cold cement basement floor. There sitting on the couch were some of the only people in the world that she feared. It was her foster family.
“Isabella what have we told you about not telling us that you are home. Also what have we said about running up the stairs.” Kathy Isabella’s foster mom said calmly.
“Oh yes, I’m sorry I had to get upstairs so I could do my homework,” Isabella said trying to get away from Kathy and her husband George as soon as she could.
“Well next time you just need to remember that you need to tell us when you get home and don’t run. George what should we do about that.” Kathy asked George.
“Kathy we’ll handle it later let her go do the things that she needs to do then we’ll deal with her later.”
With that Isabella, went and started up the stairs once she was completely out of sight she felt like she finally could breathe again. She was so relieved when she finally made it up to her room. Once she walked into the room she walked over to her bed and just relaxed. She grabbed the book she was reading at the time and began reading. Downstairs, she could hear Kathy and George yelling about what they were going to do to her once she had everything she was supposed to do done. Isabella hated when they did that to know what she would have to indoor before it actually happens.
That’s when it happened Isabella thought really hard and wished that she could be anywhere but where she was at that time. That’s all it took she had learned that since the first time she had jumped into her first book. She thought that she wanted to be somewhere else and she had the power to jump into the world of whatever book she wanted to be in most of the time it would be the book that she was reading at that time. Isabella was in the book she was in the one place that she wanted to be it was times like these that she was so thankful for her gift. Isabella has learned a lot from how many times she has jumped into the pages of a book. She had learned that she has to be careful whenever she jumps in a book because whatever she does and changes can affect the whole book she could change the whole ending of a book by doing one thing wrong. So Isabella was very careful when she would jump because she would never want to change the book too much.
The first thing Isabella did was look at her surroundings to see if she could tell where she was in the book. Because whenever she did this she could go anywhere in the entire story. As of right now, she knows exactly where she is. She’s where Dylan and his friend Mason are there after a week of scouting the area they were finally ready to put there plan into action. They were up to there mischief that made them wanted by the government. Dylan and Mason will do anything and everything to make the government mad. Dylan and Mason were just about to break into the Mayor’s office to get some of the planning paperwork. They knew that the mayor had something going on but they had no idea what it was that is why they were going to figure it out.
Isabella saw as they walked to the side door that she had an amazing view of where Dylan was sitting there trying to pick the lock, he was having trouble picking the lock. Isabella then realized that he was doing it wrong. She sat there for a moment trying to think what if she went and helped how would that change the story or would it change the story at all. Isabella saw that Dylan was so done with trying to pick the lock and he went to find a rock. Dylan found a rock and he picked it up and ran at the door he was going to smash the window. Dylan stopped when he heard Isabella talk to him not knowing who it was or what she was doing.
“What do you think you are doing?” Isabella asked.
Dylan dropped the rock and turned towards Isabella without breaking the window. “Who are you and what does it matter what I’m doing?” Dylan asked
“If you break that window you are going to set off the alarm and the police will be here any second. Also when you get that door open it will set the alarm off too and you will have twenty seconds to turn off the alarm do either of you know how to do that?” Isabella replied.
“No not exactly but do you have a better idea,” Dylan said with a smirk.
“Well for starters you were picking the lock wrong and I have an idea on how to stop the alarm,” Isabella exclaimed.
“If your going to be helping us can I at least know your name?” Dylan asked.
“I don’t know you're a complete stranger to me,” Isabella uttered as she walks over to the door and gots down on one knee she pulled a bobby pin out of her hair and begins to pick the lock.
“Dylan I don’t know about this she's right we don't even know her why are we trusting her?” Mason asked while whispering to Dylan.
“I have a good feeling about her okay we are just going to have to trust her if we are actually going to get this done,” Dylan whispers back then he walks over to Isabella.
Isabella heard a click in the door handle she then got up off her knee and opened the door. She then rushed over to the wall across the dark hallway in the building and opened the alarm box as the beeping started. Isabella could see the alarm box number key four of the numbers had been worn more than any of the others. She then started thinking of all the possible combinations of the codes. Two five seven and eight were the four numbers that have been worn the most. What could it be that’s when it hit her seven five eight two that's the code. Isabella pushes the buttons on the alarm pad once she had pushed the last button the beeping had stopped and it was just in time.
“You did it!” Dylan yells in excitement.
“I did it I can’t believe that it worked,” Isabella exclaimed.
“My name is Isabella”
“I’m Dylan. Thank you so much for helping us, Isabella.”
“Well, I better go and let you guys get back to whatever it is you two were doing,”
“Okay well, I hope to see you again,” Dylan replied.
Isabella then walked out the side door then started walking down the alley. Meanwhile, Dylan and Mason walked up the stairs and stepped into a hallway that was dark there was almost no light. The only light that was in the room was the work light that was in the middle of the ceiling. At the very end of the hallway, there was a door with a metal plate that said Mayor’s Office. Dylan walked over to the door and tried to turn the doorknob it wouldn’t open. What are we going to do now the doors locked Dylan thought. That’s When it hit him the girl Isabella she knows how to pick locks. He turned around and ran down the hallway and down the staircase and through the side door that was still open. He looked down the alley and she wasn’t there Dylan ran to the end of the alley and looked to his right first then to his left. When he turned to his left and Isabella was slowly walking down the side of the road. Dylan ran down the dark street as fast as he could to get to her.
“Isabella,” Dylan whispered.
Isabella turned around and saw Dylan he had dark brown hair and tan colored skin he had Royal blue eyes. Those eyes really pierced into your soul. He looked like he could make everyone turn when he walked into a room. That’s when it hit her why was he not in the mayor’s office something must have gone wrong but what was it. She knew that he was going to ask her for help she shouldn't have gotten involved she is too involved now, what was so going to do to get uninvolved.
“Isabella the door that we need to get through is locked would you mind coming and helping us pick the lock because I don’t know how to do it just yet?” Dylan asked
“Okay, I’ll help” Isabella replied.
Dylan and Isabella hurried and walked over to the mayor’s office. Through the door and up the stairs they walked down the hall and to the one door at the end of the hallway standing in front of it was Mason not knowing what was going on. Isabella walked over to the door and tried to open it but it was locked. Isabella kneeled down and pulled the bobby pin out of her hair once again.
“So Izzy. do you mind if I call you Izzy? Dylan asked.
“Know I don’t mind I like it,” Izzy exclaimed.
“Okay, Izzy I hope you don’t mind me asking what were you doing in the alley earlier I haven’t seen you before which is kind of strange?” Dylan asked.
“I could ask the same of you?” Izzy replied she looked up at Dylan who was staring at her.
Izzy stood up and turned the bobby pin then pulled it out and turned the doorknob as soon as she did the door swung open. The room inside was dark and gloomy there was a desk in the middle of the room and a wall of filing cabinets. They had done it they had gotten into the room without being noticed. The Three of them walked into the room and were very surprised that everything was so organized it looked kind of creepy the mayor must have had OCD because it sure looked like it. Izzy was standing there thinking where have I seen something like this before That’s when it hit her she had seen this before. He puts everything in its place so he can tell if someone had stepped foot in the room while he was gone.
“Don’t Touch anything!” Izzy turned towards the boys but it was too late they were at the desk digging through it not even thinking.
“What why?” Dylan asked
“We need to leave!” Izzy exclaimed in a high voice.
“What are you talking about? I told you, Dylan, I don’t trust her she is up to something and she’s not telling us!” Mason yelled. Mason walked over to Izzy and grabbed her Wrists very hard. “What are you up to? What are you not telling us!” Mason yelled.
Izzy started to have a flashback she was back home well the place she lived but she was not safe there. Her Foster-father was yelling at her she tried her hardest to keep her mind off him. That's when her foster father grabbed her wrists and threw her across the room she hit a wall and fell on to a glass table as soon as her body hit the glass it shattered all over the floor. Izzy was bleeding all over the world was spinning she couldn’t focus. Then her fosters father walked over to her and started kicking her in the stomach he yelled at her to get up but she couldn’t hear him.
“Mason lets go of her she is helping us” Dylan yelled. Dylan pulled Mason's hands off of Izzy and pushed him away from her.
“Look for the document!” Dylan yelled.
“Izzy are you okay? Isabella, are you hurt?” Dylan asked in a concerned voice.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Izzy said in a quiet voice.
“Why did you tell us not to touch anything?” Dylan asked
“The Mayor has everything organized so that he can tell if someone has been in there,” Izzy replied. Grabbing her now bruised wrists.
“Well done I wondered if there was someone in the world who knew my pattern I never assumed that it would be a girl.” said a deep voice she had never heard before from behind her.
They turned towards the voice it was coming from the door to the hallway. That's when the person walked into the light that was in the room. The man was older his hair was a dark brown you could tell that he had dyed it recently. His eyes were almost black he had pale skin it kind of looked liked he was being possessed by a demon. He was pale it was like he was almost dead it looked like if you touched him you would freeze because of how cold he looked. It was the mayor no one had to tell Izzy she picked up that vibe from him.
“Run!” Dylan yelled Mason finished digging through the desk and grabbed the file that was at the very bottom they both jumped out the window.
Izzy darted towards the window she started to climb out of it she was halfway out of it when the mayor grabbed her arm. Izzy made him lose his grip and then she bolted the rest of the way out of the window but she lost her footing and fell to the ground she hit her head and the world went black she was laying on the sidewalk passed out when the Mayor walked out of the building with the tall men in black suits.
“Take her to the car.” The mayor exclaimed as soon as he finished talking the men picked up Izzy and put her in the trunk of the black car that was sitting in front of the building.
“I’ll get you!” The Mayor yelled after the boys
Dylan and Masson stopped running when they saw that Izzy wasn't behind them. They turned around and looked to see if she was a little further back when Dylan says that she wasn't there he began to get worried. Mason and Dylan walk back the Mayor’s office but by the time they got there the car was gone with Izzy in it. Dylan looked at the ground under the window in horror because there was wet blood on the ground. Dylan ran over into the building up the stairs and into the Mayor’s office. When he saw that she wasn’t there he left the building with so much rage.
“They took her!” Dylan yelled. He started kicking the trash can trash was flying everywhere.
“It’s fine at least we got the file she got what was coming to her,” Mason exclaimed.
“What’s that supposed to mean she was helping us!” Dylan yelled walking over to Mason pushing him up against the wall of the building.
“I never trusted her and it was her choice for helping us I never wanted her help!” Mason Yelled.
“She left she was gone and I ran after her to ask her for help if I hadn’t done that she would be safe. Now she is in danger and it is all my fault!” Dylan yelled.
“It was still her choice to come back so it’s her fault that she was taken we got what we came, for now, we can go back to base and finish what we started!” Mason yelled.
“You go back but I’m going to get Izzy back if it’s the last thing that I do!” Dylan shouted as he turned and began walking down the street.
The black car came to a stop in the middle of nowhere the mayor got out of the car and went to the back of the car and opened the trunk. Laying there helpless was Izzy there was blood by her head. The Mayor called over the henchmen and had them pick Izzy up and follow him. The Mayor started into the woods not following a trail or anything he was just walking into the woods in a random direction. But he knew where he was going there was a cabin up in the woods that no one visits and no one else knows about. They were walking through the dark and mysterious woods for forty-five minutes until the mayor stopped for a moment to tell if they were going in the right direction. He turned thirty-five degrees to the right and continued up the hill they were was surrounded by trees.
Dylan found the car in the forest where the Mayor had left it the trunk was left open and there was blood in it from where Izzy’s had been laying making him angry. Dylan started looking at the ground for footprints. That’s when he found their trail and he started following it into the woods so hopefully, he can make it to them before anything happens to Izzy. The forest was dark the only light was from the moon. He was moving as fast as he could but while he was moving the one thought that was going through his head was that if anything happens to her it would be his fault.
When the Mayor finally made it to the cabin he walked over to the door and punched in the code it was the same code that he used for the alarm system in the office. The metal door opened and they all piled into the cabin. The Mayor flipped on the lights when the lights came on the room was revealed. It was a weapons room there were weapons everywhere. They walked around the house one of the men was still carrying Izzy. Her head was still bleeding which wasn’t a good sign the Mayor really needed to get some pressure on the source of the bleeding or she could possibly die.
“Take the girl to the basement down the main hall and into the room with the metal door there is a keycode to open the door it is the same code for the office.” The Mayor exclaimed.
The man walked down the dark stairs that were a little wet it was misty there was a little fog. The basement had a musty and moldy smell. The man walked down the hallway and just like the mayor said there was a door at the end of the hallway with a keypad. The man typed in the key and the door opened. This room was different from the rest of the house the light was off so he couldn’t see what was in it but there was a bad feeling that you got from just opening the door. The man turned on the light and realized why. In the middle of the room, there was one chair one single chair that had metal restraints on it. Looking around the room he could tell what the room was used for. This room was a torcher chamber. The man set Izzy in the chair and put her hands in the metal restraints and left the room locking the door behind them.
Dylan stopped when he saw that the trail had stopped he walked back a couple of yards and saw that they turned. He had to know idea where they were going. What was up here it’s in the middle of nowhere he thought. He turned and found the path and started moving once again. Dylan had to get to her to keep her from harm. He stopped moving when he saw the cabin. All the lights were on and people in the front room. Dylan walked up to the cabin slowly he started looking around the building for another way in.
Izzy woke up and was shocked when she realized where she was she was alone in a room with all these weird devices she was stuck in a chair. Izzy wasn’t alone for long because of a couple moments after she woke up the door opened. She was kind of relieved when the door opened because of the person that opened the door. Dylan opened the door and ran into the room quietly he took a second to take in the room. Dylan walked over the to chair that Izzy was in he was trying to see how to get her out. That's when they both heard footsteps coming down the stairs.
“Dylan you need to get out of here now!” Izzy whispered
“No! No, that's not going to happen I’m not leaving you here with him!” Dylan whispered back.
“No if you stay here then you will get caught and I can’t let the happen I’ll be fine just go!” Izzy whispered.
“I don’t care about me as long as you make it out of here I will be great!” Dylan whispered.
“Please go I’ll be fine but you won't be if they catch you” Izzy whispered.
“No!” Dylan whispered as he pressed a lever that he thought would open the metal bindings thankfully he was right when he pushed the lever the restraints opened.
“Get Out of here no I’ll follow you later you can come back once they leave. There’s a room across the hall that you can hide in go now.” Izzy whispers.
“No, you are coming with me,” Dylan said.
Izzy couldn’t help herself even though she tried not to feel this way he was making it so hard she was falling for him. Izzy saw the opportunity she closed the space between them and touched her lips against his. Dylan was shocked at this but he didn’t pull away because he was feeling the same thing. He places his hand on her neck with all of his fingers behind her head. After a second she pulled away and looked into his beautiful blue eyes. “You need to go! Please!” Izzy whispered.
“No! There is no way I’m leaving you here now that’s crazy!” Dylan exclaimed.
Izzy walked over to the door and opened it she grabbed Dylan by the arm and pulled him out of the room then she let go and walked back into the room that she was in and shut the door. She then sat in the chair and closed the metal restraints around her arms and legs. Right after that, the door opened once more but this time it was the Mayor. He walked in like everything was going to plan which worried her just a bit. He started laughing as he walked towards the chair looking at her he walks behind her.
“I feel that we are going to be great friends.” The Mayor chuckled.
“You have a strange idea of what a friend is because I am not one of yours.” Izzy retorted.
“I want you to tell me where you little friends base is and what they took from me.” The Mayor explained.
“That’s funny like I would tell you anything!” Izzy exclaimed while laughing deliriously.
“While your little friends and you were escaping you got hurt and all I need to do to cause you pain is press down.” The Mayor exclaimed as he pressed down on the bleeding part of her head.
It felt like something was being pressed into her skull which caused a bunch of pain. The bleeding increased the world started to become a blur the pain stopped when the door flew open. Izzy was angry when she saw who it was. Dylan was so stupid to come in here. The Mayor looked amused when he saw him. It was like he had put the pieces of his puzzle together. Why would he find any of this funny it wasn’t funny at all it was crazy.
“Don’t touch her again or you will regret it!” Dylan exclaimed.
“Oh, really did you hear that I’m going to regret touching you again.” The mayor scoffed. Then he deliberately pressed down the wound in Izzy’s head.
“Weird I don’t regret it at all strange I wonder if it will happen again.”The mayor exclaimed and pressed the wound once more.
Dylan tried to run at him but what he didn’t see was that the Mayor’s buffoons were right behind him as soon as he tried to make a move on the Mayor they grabbed hold of him and pressed him against a wall. This only made the Mayor laugh harder. Dylan kept struggling to get out of the grip of the men but nothing was working. This made Dylan very mad because he couldn’t do anything to help Izzy. The Mayor walked over to Dylan and looked at him in amusement. He took a moment and looked at Dylan then at Izzy once then twice.
“Of course I see now I can get to you through her.” The Mayor exclaimed.
“Not because you feel like this is your fault but because you have feelings for her. Oh and what makes this better is she has strong feelings for you.” The Mayor started laughing once more.
“Oh, this is just precious” The Mayor Exclaimed in excitement. “Well, that means that I have leverage over you.” The mayor said while laughing. He walked over and picked up one of the tools from off the wall walking back over to the chair that Izzy was sitting in. “So this is what’s going to happen I’m going to ask you a question and if you don’t answer it correctly then your pretty girlfriend will pay the price.” The Mayor said while laughing.
“No, leave her alone!” Dylan yelled attempting to get out of the grip of the Mayor’s henchmen.
“Now we are getting somewhere!” The Mayor said.
“Dylan don't tell them anything I'll be fine just don’t tell them anything,” Izzy cried
“I would shut up little lady or you’ll get what's been coming to you!” The Mayor yelled.
“No, you can't manipulate us like this!” Izzy yelled back trying to pull herself out of the chair.
The Mayor raised his arm and slapped her across the face.” Now shut up and be quite okay!” The Mayor yelled
“No, you can't make me do anything that I don’t want to do!” Izzy yelled.
“That’s it I’m done with her talking.”The Mayor exclaimed. He grabbed a piece of cloth from of the counter and put it in her mouth tied the two ends together around her head so when she tried to talk they couldn’t hear her
“That’s better, isn’t it. Okay, my first question is what folder did you steal from my office?” The Mayor asked.
“Why have you been stealing money from the charity's?” Dylan asked.
“Wait what are you trying to do that is not an answer.” The Mayor exclaimed.
“Why have you been taking the money out of the charity funds?” Dylan asked.
“Are you trying to confuse me or something because if you are I might have to do something that you won't like.” The Mayor exclaimed as he walked over the Dylan.
Izzy saw what he was doing and she knew why he was doing it if she could somehow reach the lever that releases the restraints then she could get out distract the men for long enough that Dylan could get out and we both would be home free. Izzy started trying to reach the leaver while The Mayor was distracted. That's when she a saw it there was a stray wire that led to the leaver if she could reach it then she could pull the wire and the leaver with it so she could get out. Izzy did it twice and nothing happened she couldn’t reach it so she tried one more time but this time something was different she touched the wire this time she grabbed hold of the wire and pulled as hard as she could. Just like that the metal restraints opened and she was up out of the chair she ran over to the door and opened it and was out the door up the stairs and already in the woods running away to hide and wait for Dylan to get out of the building
“Get her back if you let her escape you will be taking her place in that chair.” The Mayor yelled.
They all let go at the same time Dylan taking the chance pushed through them and was up and out of the building he was looking for Izzy. He was so relieved when he saw her running toward him. He started running towards her at the same time when they got to each other she wrapped her arms around him giving him a hug he did the same they stopped when the Mayor's men came bursting through the door. Dylan set Izzy down and they both started running through the woods trying to get away from the Mayor’s men.
Izzy and Dylan had been running for about half an hour when they stopped to see where they were going to make sure that they were not lost That’s when it happened the sound echoed the sound of a gunshot Izzy turned to see if Dylan heard it too but was shocked in horror when she saw that he was on the ground bleeding. Dylan had been shot and he was bleeding out if he didn’t get any help soon then he would be dead. Izzy looked up and saw that one of the Mayor's men that were chasing them was catching up what was she going to do she thought.
“Your glowing,” Dylan exclaimed.
“No! No! This can’t be happening now!” Izzy said looking down at her skin which was now glowing
“Go you have to leave me,” Dylan exclaimed.
Izzy got up and started to pick up Dylan when she started seeing her bedroom. She snapped out of it and was trying to stay in the story longer this always happens when she was being pulled out of a book because she had been in there too long. Izzy kept running with Dylan leaning on her shoulder. Dylan was pulled off her shoulders and thrown to the ground Izzy turned around and saw that Dylan was unconscious on the ground and the Mayor’s man was continuing to try to catch Izzy as well she started running but when she turned she saw that The Mayor’s man was standing over Dylan now with a gun at his head.
“Get over here now or I'll shot and he will die.” The man yelled.
“Okay just don't hurt him,” Izzy exclaimed as she was walking towards them but then it happened she was pulled from the story and now was on her bed the light was shining into the room and her Foster Parents were downstairs still yelling it was like she had never left. The man that she loved was dead by know and there would be no saving him. Izzy got out of bed and stood up closing the door to her room and walking down the stairs she was sad because he was dead she couldn’t even be there as he was DIEING OR SO SHE THOUGHT!
