Yasmin walked into the enormous kitchen and saw few of the maids, preparing some foods. “Hey, I need you to prepare me something to eat” she ordered as she got closer. Margot who was in the room, turned to her, surprised at her rudeness and the nerve to order anyone of them around. “I’m sorry but If you’re hungry, you can make yourself food” she said and turned back to what she was doing. A scowl invades Yasmin’s face instantly and she charged forward, pulling her back. “How dare you talk to me like that? You’re nothing but a maid” she spitted. Margot was momentarily shocked but she quickly recovered. “Maid? No one is a maid in the Holloway mansion. That’s one of Mr. Holloway rules” she replied. Yasmin scoffed in mockery, crossing her arms against her chest. “Well, he’s dead, isn’t he? The ownership of this mansion had been changed and I am in charge” she told them rather shamelessly. “You? Are you delusional?” one of the housekeepers who could not contain her anger let out. Yasmin sharp gaze shot dagger at her, she tried to move at her but Margot stopped her. “I don’t know who you are, but we only take orders from Master Jace” she told her. “If you’ve lost your way, I suggest that you leave” Margot added and Yasmin became livid. She raised her hand angrily to strike her but Jace came into the room and halt her. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” his voice was frightening. It made Yasmin dropped her hand and turned to him, nervously. She wanted to speak but he shut her up. “You should get out of here” he fired at her, his gaze unfriendly. Having no choice but to bit her tongue, Yasmin walked out upset. After she was gone, Margot thanked him. “Why did you let her talk to you like that?” Jace asked, Margot had been the house manager for seven years now. She was literally part of the Holloway family. “I think Katrina brought her here to make trouble” Margot stated. “You need to be careful of that girl, she act so innocent but I think she’s scheming and evil like her mother” she resorted. Jace squeezed his face as he forced a faint smile and nodded. “I will make sure this doesn’t repeat itself” he promised and Margot smiled in appreciation. “Why are you here?” she asked. “Just want a snack”Jace replied and Margot went to grab a snicker, his favorite. Jace took it with a smile and walked out of the kitchen. He had barely left when the others gathered around Margot with giggles. “He cares so much about you, Margot.” one of the girls said in excitement. “Of course. Margot had been one taking care of him since Jennifer left him” another added. “He basically treats her as family” Margot smiles in pleasure at their comments, enjoying the praise. … When Katrina got back to the house, it was past midnight. She believed everyone must be asleep and didn’t bother switching on the light. As she tried to find her way upstairs, she heard a sound in the dark and panicked, stopping abruptly. She reached out to find her phone and the sound seemed to be nearer. As she switched on her flashlight, she raised it up and caught a face in the dark. Katrina gave a loud scream as the face was really closer than she thought, her face dropped from her hand in that instant. “It’s me” Jace yelled from the dark. At the same time, they both seemed to move to find the light switch and ended up colliding into each other. Katrina ’s back hit the wall as she tried to avoid him and Jace grabbed the wall in his own attempt. The lights switched on, brightening up the whole room, and the two were standing face to face with each other. Their breathes slowly embracing each other in conflict. Katrina raised her head for a second and was caught in his eyes which she immediately avoided by looking away. “Can you move away?” she asked in a low voice. “Why?” Jace asked, suddenly feeling the desire to taunt her. “I’m... uncomfortable” Katrina stuttered. She moved to look at him again and froze, her eyes catching his lips instead. It was spread in a thin line, revealing his smug. She could not stop the nervous gulp down that follows, her throat suddenly dry. Jace caught her gaze and despite his hatred towards her, the desire to embrace her was stronger in that moment. He leaned deliberately closer, his nose grazes hers briefly and he felt a dangerous jolt in his body. The memories from that night invaded his head. ‘Did she feel that?’ he could not help but wonder. Katrina whose hands were down, clenched her trousers, barely having a grip. She could swear her heart paused for a second when his face touched hers. ‘What on earth?’ she wondered in a seized breath. Another gulp went down her throat. In that moment, the idea of kissing was so tempting that he also grasp her and swallow her whole but he didn’t. His ears turned red at the forced restrain. “You should not walk in the dark. You have no idea what monster you might encounter” he said in a heated breath. Katrina squinted, pushing off the tingling sensation, she pushed him away and moved a safe distance away from him. “You’re the freak who was standing in the dark” she shot at him. Jace chuckled. “Maybe I was waiting to ambush you” he stated and turned to leave. “Keep your silly friend in check, else I will” he said finally and walked out the door. Katrina grasped her chest which was still beating fast from the dangerous moment. She did not notice Yasmin who was standing on the stairs, watching this whole time. She had her hands clinched so tight that it started to hurt and she let go with a painful gasp. That what when Katrina noticed her. She turned and hurry quickly to her. “Yasmin, you aren’t asleep?” she asked. With a sweet innocent smile, Yasmin shook her head. “I was thirsty and heard a noise” she answered. “Was someone with you? I think I heard another voice” she said. “It’s just me” Katrina gave an anxious smile that wore off as soon as she let it out. Yasmin also forced a grin, pretending to believe her and arms in arms, they both walked back upstairs. … Outside, Jace let out deep breathes inside the car, as he tilt his head back, placing his palm on his chest. He thought for a moment there that his heart might explode. How would he live with her when he can barely resist her?’ The ring of his phone distracted his thoughts and he picked up. “I will be there in ten” he answered and dropped the call. Throwing his phone to the front seat, he pressed the button to start the car but halted. ‘How many guys has she been with that she couldn’t remember me?’ he thought aloud, feeling upset all over again.
