“I can defend myself,” Katrina spat out as the car drove at speed. “I don’t need you fighting for me,” she snapped, her eyes glued to the front, squeezed in an angry glower. Jace turned his head to her. “You sure you can? You were stupid enough to be played,” he snapped too. Infuriated, Katrina turned to him. “I’m not stupid!” she stressed, and looked away from him, too angry to see his face. “You are the one who dated my friend.” The words came out like an accusation and Jace replied immediately. “Yeah, to piss you off,” he yelled back. Surprise invaded Katrina’s face as she flicked her head to him again. Words evaded her for a second and she swallowed back her next attack.
