CHAPTER EIGHT MIRA We watched as the figure slowly went up and then started across the top of the loose shale. He’d come maybe thirty yards when he took a step and the shale shifted under his weight. His arms flailed for a few seconds while he tried to catch his balance, but the extra motion was too much and more of the slope began to slide, faster and faster, carrying him with it. He tried to jump past the moving section and sank up to his knees, causing a new section to start sliding, throwing him onto his side. He cried out as he fell, then he was tumbling in amongst the rocks. He ended up at the bottom of the slope, about two thirds of the way across, half covered in loose shale.
