CHAPTER TEN RISPAN I drifted up from a dream where I was trying to sleep but there was a sharp rock that kept poking me in my back. “Stop thrashing about or you’ll tear out the stitching!” The voice that came from nearby wasn’t one I recognized, and my eyes snapped open. The space I was in wasn’t brightly lit, but I could see clearly that it was nowhere I’d been before. I was on one of a row of several short beds. Only some of them were occupied. Curtains hung between the beds. It looked like some sort of hospital or infirmary. I started to sit up but gave up the effort when I felt a lancing pain in my side. I looked down to see a bandage wrapped around my stomach just below the ribs. That reminded me of the arrow I’d seen there. I must have passed out after getting into the sewer. “
