The smell of breakfast was what woke her. Not sunlight. Not birds. Not Ryan. Food. Shezayah's eyes opened slowly while the scent drifted through the cabin from somewhere beyond the bedroom door. For a few seconds she simply stared at the ceiling, disoriented by the fact that she had actually slept through the night. No nightmares. No monsters. No earthquakes. Just sleep.
