The forest remained completely still after Artemis’s words settled through Shezayah’s mind, but the tension pressing against the clearing felt heavier now, thick enough that even the wind seemed careful moving through the trees. Shezayah’s glowing eyes stayed fixed on Azaliyah and Camron while blood continued drying slowly across her claws, though her focus kept drifting back toward Camron more than she wanted it to.
Because he was watching her too closely.
Not nervously.
Not cautiously.
Knowingly.
It irritated her immediately.
“You’re staring,” Shezayah said finally, her tone flat while she crossed her arms loosely against her chest.
Camron didn’t look away. “You’re shifting while standing perfectly still,” he replied calmly. “That’s not normal for a first awakening.”
