A human Mate

Adam – POV The moment she stepped into the car that night, something shifted in the air. At first, I thought I imagined it. Just another new student, nothing more. But then I got close—really close—and the scent hit me. Warm. Soft. Wild. And not wolf. Human. But that didn’t matter. Because the second I looked her in the eyes, I felt it. The pull. I’d heard about it before—an ancient kind of bond. One that didn’t care about bloodlines or rules. One that tore logic apart. But I never thought it would happen to me. To us. Kila. That was her name. Sharp tongue, guarded eyes, and a backbone tougher than most she-wolves. She was nothing like the girls here who threw themselves at Alphas, hoping to be claimed. Kila didn’t want us. Which only made it worse. Made it harder. My wolf was already restless, pacing inside me. The bond was clawing at my skin, demanding I get closer. Touch her. Claim her. But she wasn’t like us. She wasn’t ready. Hell, she didn’t even know what she was walking into. I leaned against the edge of the training hall, jaw clenched, trying to ignore the way my eyes tracked her every movement from across the room. The rest of my brothers weren’t doing much better. Caleb kept glancing her way, pretending not to. Dax had already left the room, muttering something about needing air. And Ryker? He was stone-still, watching her like she was prey—and he was the predator trying not to strike. We weren’t just drawn to her. We were bound. We were are mate “I can’t take this much longer,” Caleb muttered beside me, rubbing the back of his neck. “She’s not a wolf,” Ryker said flatly. “It’s not possible. The bond isn’t supposed to work this way.” “And yet, here we are,” I growled. The goddess had warned us—years ago, actually—that we might encounter something… rare. A bond that defied nature. A mating pull to someone outside the pack. Outside the species. “Don’t fight it,” she once said. “But don’t rush it either. The wrong move could destroy you both.” I didn’t fully understand it then. Now I did. Kila walked past us on her way to the far end of the field, brushing a hand through her dark hair, completely unaware of the chaos she’d just triggered. And damn, if she didn’t smell like temptation. My hand twitched. I wanted to reach for her. Feel her skin, see if she'd shiver when I touched her. See if she’d feel it too. But I didn’t. I couldn’t. Because what would I say? “Hi, I’m Adam. One-fourth of a group of overpowered werewolves who are apparently soul-bonded to you. No pressure.” Right. And yet, when her eyes flicked toward me—just for a second—everything else stopped. My breath. My heart. My control. She didn’t smile. But she didn’t look away either. There was something in her gaze. Cautious. Curious. Like a match waiting to be struck. Caleb stepped beside me again. “We need to tell her.” “Not yet,” I said, watching as she vanished through the side hall doors. “She doesn’t even know what this place is, let alone who we are to her.” Ryker’s voice was cold. “Sooner or later, the urge is going to win. We’ll lose control.” “I know.” And that was the problem. Because no matter how much I told myself to wait, to be patient, to let her adjust… The bond was getting stronger. More demanding. More intimate. And if she walked pass my room tonight… I wouldn’t have the strength to stop it. I paced the hallway, thoughts crashing through my mind like waves during a storm. I couldn’t hold it in any longer—I needed to talk to them. I called my brothers over. “I think we have to tell her,” I said, my voice low but urgent. “I can’t keep controlling it. The bond—it’s getting stronger.” Caleb looked at me sharply. “Tell her what, exactly? That she’s a human girl caught in the middle of four bonded Alphas? In this place?” I let out a quiet, frustrated groan. He wasn’t wrong. But pretending this would go away wasn’t working either. We were all feeling it. The urge. The bond. And it was only getting worse. I needed to act. Now. Her scent drifted past me—warm and distinct—and I turned just as she walked by. Like fate had been waiting for me to make a move. “Kila,” I called. She stopped and looked up, her eyes meeting mine. A small smile curved her lips. “How you doing?” she asked casually. I nodded, taking a step toward her. “Can I talk to you for a second?” “He means can we talk to you,” Dax added, appearing at my side. Kila raised a brow. “Sure... but make it quick.” I took a deep breath, then reached out gently, brushing my fingers against her arm. The mark was there—glowing faintly. Clearer than it had been the night before. “What’s this?” I asked. She jerked her arm away, eyes flashing with something between confusion and fear. “I don’t know. I just... woke up with it.” I nodded slowly. “Kila... you’re our mate.” Her entire face twisted. Shock. Disbelief. Disgust. “What are you talking about?” she said, voice sharp and defensive. Ryker stepped forward. “He means... all four of us. We’re connected to you. You’re meant to be ours.” Kila stared at us like we’d just lost our minds. “You four must be crazy. Or drunk. Or both.” She scoffed loudly, turning like she was ready to walk off. “Wait—” I said, my voice calm, careful. “Please. Don’t go.” Her eyes narrowed. “You want to tell me I’m some magical mate to a bunch of wolves when I’m not even a wolf? I don’t even know what the hell is happening to my life right now!” I reached out again, this time firmer, but not forceful. “Then explain this,” I said gently, holding her wrist. One by one, my brothers and I rolled up our sleeves, revealing the same mark etched into our skin. The same howling wolf. The same glow. Kila’s breath caught. Her expression shifted from anger to confusion, then to something much more vulnerable. Her eyes scanned each of us—one by one—and for the first time, she didn’t have something sharp to throw back. Because whatever this was... she felt it too.
