Kade

"You left?" I just stared at John. "Did you actually see her at all?"
"Well no, we didn't actually see her at all. We didn't see anything suspicious though, no smell of a shifter or any other humans in the area," said John.
"Max, did you see her?" I asked.
"No, all the windows were covered," stated Max.
I got up from my chair and looked out the window. How could I have seen her, and be so close and now I'm not sure if it is my mate or my mind playing tricks on me. I know when you find your mate, they seem perfect, but I don't believe that I would be so fooled as to see a beautiful girl instead of an old cleaning lady. I also don't believe that I would be mated to and old woman.
"I really didn't sense anything dangerous, around the place," Max said.
"The only thing I found strange was the fact that that nosy old waitress Mags, didn't want to talk about her," said John.
"She probably thought you were some kind of perve," deadpannes Max.
"Hey man, why did you have us follow her?" Questioned John.
"I told you, it's important to know who's around our land. She seemed very out of place here." I hoped that was convincing enough of an answer.
"Well, hopefully this solved everything, I don't think we need to fear an attack from an old cleaning lady. Well, maybe if she did we could have her clean up the place a little," joked John.
---
After they left my office I couldn't help but keep picturing that girl in my mind. Those green eyes. As crazy as it may sound, I know I've seen those eyes in my dreams. Never a face, just those green eyes.
I left my office to try and get some sleep, but I couldn't fall asleep. So I decided to go for a walk... scratch that. I think I'll go for a run. I need to get some of this pent up anger out.
I shifted to my wold form and took off. I don't know how long I wad running for, but next thing I knew I was standing in front of a small old house. Call me crazy, but I've run through these woods since I was a kid and I've never seen this house before.
Something inside of me told me this was the house that John and Max were telling me about. Part of me wanted to leave. But what if, it was the girl with the green eyes. The eyes that I see in my sleep.
I decided to go ahead and take a close look. I quietly crept up to the old house. I sniffed the air, John and Max were right about not sensing another shifter around here. Which again is crazy since, this house is maybe 25min away from our packlands.
I can smell her again. This is definitely the same smell from the diner. Even now it is such a soft scent that most shifters wouldn't even notice it. I walked around back where the scent was the strongest. I could here her breathing. It wad slow and steady. She must be sleeping.
I was content sitting there just listening to her sleep, when I could sense her breathing sped up, I could also here her mumbling, calling for her mom.
I wish I could go inside and just take one quick look. Just to see if she really is my green eyed mate, or an old cleaning lady.
I stayed outside of that old house for most of the night before heading back to the packhouse.
---
When I finally fell asleep, I saw those green eyes again, the ones that have been haunting my dreams, and now my waking hours as well.
She just sat there sitting in my room, in the balcony window seat, just staring at me. Never says a word, just stares at me. As if blaming me for not finding her.
I sat up in my bed, and called her name.
"Ara, are you Ara," I waited for a reply, but nothing. "Are you real?"
She sat there motionless. Those eyes, they held a sadness to them as they watched me.
Slowly getting up, I walked over to were she sat. I was about to touch her cheek and then she vanished. There was no one sitting at the window. I felt a pain in my heart, a pain saying I have lost something important to me.
"Are you even real?" I asked again, this time to the empty place she had been setting.
---
And then I woke up. I was disappointed, even in my dreams she disappeared. I sat up and looked at my window, looked at the spot she had been sitting just seconds ago in my dreams.
I got up and showered. There was no reason to just sit there.
When I went to my office to get started on today's paperwork, I was surprised to find Max in there waiting for me.
"Max, you're here early," I said.
"I figured that whatever you were wanting us to do last night wasn't over yet," replied Max. "I'm not sure what you were looking for, but I didn't sense any kind of danger."
"Yeah, just make sure to keep an eye out for anyone new in the area." I still wasn't ready to tell anyone what I think I saw.
Max nodded, and stepped out of the room.
I stood there for a few more minutes. Then I decided that I would check it out myself. I walked out of the pack house and shifted into my wolf. It took me maybe 15min to get the house. I stood in the edge of the woods, waiting to see if I could catch a glimpse of the person living there.
I could sense I was in the right spot. I could feel her inside of that house. I heard the front door open, and for a split second I had hoped to catch a glimpse of the girl from the diner last night, but a car pulled up right in front of my view. It looked like the older waitress from the diner last night.
She walked into the house and I missed my chance of getting to see her.
"Hey Kade, where are you at?" John mind linked me. "We're waiting for you to train."
"Be right there, I just went out for a run." I had zero intention of telling him what I've been doing. "Go ahead and get everyone warmed up."
"Sounds good, are we wanting to take it easy today?" asked John.
"We will be sparring today," I said flatly. I needed to get some frustration out.
"Ok Kade, I'll warn everyone," John responded.
When I got back all the warriors were ready to begin. John and Max came up to me to find out what my plans for training were.
"So who's going first today?" asked John.
"Me," I said.
John and Max looked at each other. Max just shrugged his shoulders. John looked at me.
"Light training...?" he asked.
"No, let's do some real training." I responded.
"Alright...." John turned to the warriors. "And who wants to get the chance to spar with the Alpha first?"
Everyone was quiet, except a couple of the younger warriors who thought they could possibly rank up. After a few rounds of sparring. John called the time.
"Training time is up," John said clapping his hands. "Good job to everyone who was brave enough to spar the Alpha."
No one was too injured, just some bumps and cuts. Nothing that wouldn't heal in a couple of hours. I went back to my room to freshen up and change. On my way back to the office Deb, the pack house cook/housekeeper, came up to me.
"Is everything ok Kade?" she asked, really looking at me. You seem overworked and distracted.
Deb was one of those truly caring people, who might also be a little on the nosy side. She patted my arm.
"What you're looking for... you'll find it." with that she walked away.
I forgot to mention, she could also be a little bit on the cryptic side. She had a crazy way of knowing things, but would never come out and tell you straight to your face.
