Ara - Something Is Off

1316 Words
Ara --- Waking up even more tired than when I fell asleep, I dragged myself out of bed and went to get dressed. Splashing some cold water on my face to hopefully wake myself up a bit. Mags was going to be visiting me this morning. She would always come by on Monday mornings to bring me some groceries and other necessities. Mags texted me letting me know that she was about ready to pull up. She knows I'm a bit on the jumpy side, so she is always kind enough to let me know when she is coming. I went to the front door to greet Mags, as I opened the door she pulled up. "Hi Mags," I greeted as she walked in the front door. "How are you doing Ara?" she asked, in a tone that made it seem like something was wrong. "I'm good, nothing out of the norm," I replied. She looked at me for a couple more seconds before she went on. "There was a couple men asking about you last night," she said. "I told them I don't know anyone that looked like you. They were the men that came in right before your shift ended." I remember that man watching me. I know I had never met them before, but why would they be asking about me. I shrugged my shoulders. "You can never be too careful you know. Not when you're a young girl living on her own," Mags said as she was putting away some of the things she had brought. "Sometimes there are things out there, and it's better to leave them be. Otherwise, who knows what kind of trouble you can get yourself into." "Thank you for looking out for me," I really wasn't sure what else to say, but I had always been grateful to her. When I had first got here she hired me on the spot and rented me this house. She didn't even know me, she said she had just had a good feeling about me. Since then, she has been kind of like a grandmother I never had. "Ok Ara, looks like we're all set for the week. I'll see you tomorrow at the diner." with that she was out the door and on her way. I was not a morning person, I considered going back to bed, but I should probably be a bit more productive. After having some toast and doing my morning chores I decided to get some fresh air. I could walk to town, but honestly I preferred the peacefulness of the woods. As I was walking I felt something strange. Like someone had been here. I can't explain it, it just felt different. I looked around and didn't see anyone... "You're just imagining things again Ara.... no one comes out here besides Mags." I said to myself. I made myself comfortable under my favorite tree and just watched as the bunnies played and the birds chirped. --- Max --- I know Kade had said there was nothing, but I've known him my whole life. There's no way that he would have us do something for no reason. After the training this morning I decided to go back to watch the house. I wanted to try and figure out what he was looking for. I took my wolf form so that I could blend in better without being seen. As I approached the house I saw a girl coming out. Definitely not an old cleaning lady. I couldn't see her face, but she did have long dark hair. I saw her walking into the edge of the forest. She didn't seem dangerous. She just seemed small. Definitely a human. Besides the scent of the waitress from the diner, I didn't sense anyone or anything else. I saw her stop for a second and look around her, I crouched a little lower. She didn't seem to see me. I'm not quite sure what she was looking for. She walked for a little longer and then sat underneath a tree, she seemed at peace to just watch the forest. She sat there for nearly three hours, she barely moved, just watched the forest the whole time. I haven't studied humans too closely, besides casual encounters.... but this did seem a bit odd for a human. At least I'll be able to tell Kade that there is a girl, I'm still not sure if it was the one he is looking for. --- Ara --- I looked around, it seems like it was getting a little later in the day. I was going to go back inside, but something was drawing me deeper into the woods. Usually I stay at the edge, never too deep to where I could get lost.... I stood there for a couple minutes contemplating if I should go just a little further. Just to see if there was something there. Maybe just a little further. I couldn't help the pull that I was feeling. --- Max --- I wad about ready to leave when I saw her get up. She was looking deeper into the woods. I'm not sure if she was harmless or if she was a danger, so I guess I'll find out what she was planning on doing. Not too many of the locals go deep into the forest. She started slowly heading into the forest. I kept a distance, but close enough not to lose her. Every couple of minutes she would stop, and then would switch directions. --- Ara --- I'm not quite sure where I was going, but it was like I remembered being here before. I would close my eyes and take a breath, then I would feel the pull again. I'm not sure how long I was walking into the woods, when I suddenly realized, I couldn't see my house anymore. I actually couldn't remember how I had got this far. There was no way I was going to remember how to get home. "See Ara, this is why we stay on the border..." I mumbled to myself. I turned around and my eyes met the eyes of a wolf... that was the last thing I saw before everything went dark. --- Max -- It felt like she knew where she was going, then all of a sudden she just stopped. I'm sure she hadn't noticed me following her. I silently was getting closer to her when she all of a sudden turned around, our eyes met for a split second, and then she was out cold. Even though it was only a second, I did see green eyes, this was the girl that Kade described. She still didn't seem like much... maybe a little strange, but not much of a threat. Now what do I do... do I just leave her here... that thought didn't sit quite right with me. So I guess that means I have to bring her back. I shifted back into my human form. I walked up to her quietly to make sure she was completely unconscious. I bent down to pick her up. She was small, it didn't take much effort at all to pick her up. I quickly brought her back to her house, I checked to see if her door was unlocked. Luckily it was, when I entered, the place seemed average. It was small and tidy, there was a strange peacefulness in here. I sat her on her couch and left. ---- Ara --- When I woke up, I was on my couch. Not the forest.... How did I get here...? I just remember feeling lost.. and then.... and then.... I'm not sure. Did any of that even happen? --- Max --- After I left the house I headed straight for the pack house. "Kade," I mindlinked. "What?" "I think I found who you were looking for."
